A Fistful of Dynamite (1971)

Sergio Leone's last spaghetti western. Not his best.
i agree. The most interesting thing about that film is that it was originally called Giu' La Testa Coglione, which has been bowdlerized into "Duck, You Sucker" but a more accurate translation would be "Duck, You Fuckface", and it actually went out in some prints with that name, before someone realized *maybe* it's better to edit that title.

This weekend I started watching The Queen season 4 on Netflix. This is probably the best season yet! Just give Gillian Anderson her damn Emmy for best supporting actress... she earned it for her dead on portrayal of Margaret Thatcher.

9/10 on this one. I STILL think that the "premium" Netflix costs too damn much, though, and I probably won't find anything good to watch on the service until March now

Mrs Ned and I started season 4 of The Crown a couple of nights ago. So far, this is still one of the best shows on TV. Margaret Thatcher steals the show - love her or hate her, every scene she is in is captivating.

Get Out - 6/10 - I don't really like horror movies but this turned out to be not that much of a horror movie. I also didn't get the hype.

BLM-themed film.

I .. like Key & Peele. I think that their social-commentary-based comedy is funny and intelligent, and the plot of Get Out would be great, as a 5 minute sketch. NAAAWWWT as a movie.

Bushwick - 7/10 Netflix

Better than anticipated. Dystopian revolt by factions in the US. Not terribly beyond the realm of where we are today.

Leaving Netflix on 11/23.

Ozarks (Season 1): 8/10

Great drama and suspense.
Love the way Marty thinks on his feet and comes up with a plan.

One thing though:
If it's $8M laundered but his cut is 15% and 25% to taxes, then why is he paying the cartel the full $8M back?
Shouldnt it be only $4.8M?
Ozarks (Season 2): 6.5/10

Was good till near the end of the season.
Both Darlene (redneck heroin grower's wife) and Wendy's actions were wtf?!?

especially Darlene: Sabotaging her own drug operation? WTF unbelievable!
the show didnt sell her turning like that very well.

also, car riddled by machine gun fire and only 1 person out of 3 in the car was hit? and only hit once?

Schitt's Creek: 9/10

The TL;DR is that they're a rich, fairly self-absorbed family who loses their wealth & is forced to survive in a small town with virtually zero resources. The show is basically about them adapting to their new world, trying to get back into their old world, and growing up along the way. Surprisingly one of the most well-done TV shows I've seen since Breaking Bad. If you like the humor, then you'll enjoy the heart of the show as well. If you had siblings, the show makes a lot more sense.

1. Give it halfway into season one before judging it. It takes a few episodes to find its legs. After that, if the humor is for you, keep going!
2. One of the few shows to show real character growth. Not in an in-your-face kind of way, but it's totally different from something like a CSI police procedural where they're just dealing with cases that come along as they are.
3. Good solid ending. Didn't let me down like Lost. They wrapped it up really nicely!

This was exactly the type of show I needed in the middle of COVID. Funny, solid, and approachable...I could wrap my mind around watching it after a long day at work. Sometimes there just isn't enough brain-juice left to watch certain movies & TV shows at the end of the day lol. I won't like a trailer or highlight clips because it's one of those shows you just have to get through half a dozen episodes to get into & to understand the context. It's not for everyone, but if you enjoy it, the show pretty much stays on-track for every season. imo they did a great job on it!

The Boys 9/10

Amazing! Perfect on my 120" screen.

I am so glad I invested in a movie theater before Covid.

Now you can't find them anywhere.

More on the Way
Expected availability: 2-4 weeks

I do a lot of home theater setups on the side...it's amazing how cheap things have gotten! And not just cheap but high-quality! I have an older XGIMI H1 unit myself, and have put in a bunch of H2 & H3 units, and will be testing the new F3 unit next month! You can build a pretty sick 90" to 200" projection setup with Atmos speakers for a non-insane amount of money these days!

if you are gonna go big, a projector is the way to go. And that beam over your head, gives you that 1980s theater feeling.

How do they work in normal lighting conditions? I've thought about a projector, but there are no basements in Texas and even at night with the curtains closed I can read a newspaper in my living room with the lights out.

Awesome.

Thankfully I used headphones for sound but if I ever got speakers I would do that.

Though my headphones are really good. They cost $1000 so they better be.

I can't imagine ever spending that much on headphones.

I thought higher end audio was dumb until I started listening to some of the gear. Like many people I popped my cherry with the Sennheiser HD600's and that piqued my interest into additonal headphones and then amps and DAC's.

I can't afford my own setup now, but back when I was making better money I went into mid-range audio, and my dekstop headphones were a $550 set of Beyer, plus add in a Schiit Bifrost Multibit DAC and a Burson Soloist MkII Amp and combined it's about 2K in gear, but when you put on some high res tracks or Tidal Master level tracks and sit in the chair and listen, it's mindblowingly good stuff. You just smile it sounds so good.

There is certainly a point of diminishing returns with audio gear. Once you reach a certain price point you get very little back on spending more money. My best pair of IEM's were $1100 and you can go higher than that but even if you spend 3K on a set, you might get like a 5% improvement on sound, if your ears can even hear it.

I binge watched the first 4 seasons pretty quickly but then all the characters' schticks started getting too tiresome. I stopped watching early in season 5. It was a goofy feel good comedy from the get go, nothing too edgy about it, but likeable enough. I especially liked the son's character, and the mother had the next best moments. But getting through 4 seasons pretty quickly is a small feat, so there's that. Definitely worth a go.

Garbage. I mean, a projector is just a fancy flashlight, so your black levels are only going to be as good as whatever the ambient light level is. They do sell special ALR (ambient-light-rejecting) screens, but the good ones aren't cheap, and even the really expensive ones (like $5,000) are just "OK" in the daylight and/or with lights on. The workaround is to get blackout curtains. So the tradeoff is you have to sit in the dark, but you get a monster picture!

If you're willing to invest a little bit, you can get a basic Atmos receiver for $500 these day. All you need is some compact speakers & a subwoofer really, and maybe some transducers (bass shakers) to make it a little more fun. So for around maybe $2k, you can have a 135" 1080p LED (or 4K bulb) projector screen with Atmos surround-sound right in your house! I use one of these $10 microwave popcorn bowls, works amazing!

I get the "FIT-POP 24 Lbs Yellow Kernels in Two Lb bags" every year for $42 shipped, which is the best popcorn money can buy:

I have this setup in my basement, albeit with a smaller 100" screen because I'm space-limited right now....crystal-clear screen, awesome surround-sound, and popcorn! I'm a big movie fan, but I'm not willing to go to a theater right now haha.

You go through 24LBs of kernels a year????

I get a box & then split it up among family & friends. Like my friend's kid just left for on-campus college out-of-state & I gifted her one of the pop-up microwave bowls with a few bags of popcorn, which turned out to be a huge hit with her roommates since they're all stuck indoors haha. It's nice because you can do buttered, cheddar, kettle, caramel, etc. all from an air-popped base. Although I do go through a lot of popcorn, like 1/4 cup per batch a few times a week, you go through it quick!

I know such things exist. I just would never buy them. First, I don't listen to music. Second, I don't think I have particularly good hearing anyway, so the additional quality would be lost on me. Third, I think I'm hard on headphones so I'd be nervous about busting audiophile headphones.

I am hard on headphones too but that is why I have a really good warranty. My hearing is better than my sight though.

Which season? Edit: I see before the page break, season 1.

You do kind of have to accept MacFarlane's humor. If you can get past that, there are some great episodes in there.
