Fantasy Island is getting yet another remake. It looks like crap.
Reviews are not great.

Looks like they are tying to make it a drama about the staff of the island instead of a lighthearted twilight zone type encapsulated stories about how we build coping mechanisms.
Fantasy Island should be about the fantasies, 2 or 3 short stories each week and the the staff should just be there to give a bit of exposition to the stories.
And it probably should be on HBO Max or some such where they could push the envelope a bit, explore some of the darker sides of our fantasies.
Give it a reasonably budget, hire some guest writers to write some stories, and you would have a hit on your hands.

But Fox is going to water it down and make it into generic romantic drama and no one will care because there are 34 shows that already do that better.
The nostalgia will only get you views for a few episodes, after that you better have something worth watching, and I don't think they do.

Tarantino's Hateful Eight - 7.2. I liked it, some excellent actors.

Marked down a bit because Everyone dies in the end! I hate it when writers pull that.

Theres a bunch of these videos, one for each TV season.
Its funny how much crap there was on TV back then, and yet the industry decided we need tons of new channels, which are also filled with mostly garbage.

Last week I took a backpacking trip in Montana, so I got to see several movies on the flights out & back.

News of the World: I like westerns. I like Tom Hanks. I liked this movie. There wasn't much action, and the story wasn't very original - in fact it was quite predictable - but all in all a good watch. I'm not in a rush to watch it again though.

A Quiet Place 2: I liked part 1 a lot, and part 2 was more of the same. Cillian Murphy is one of my favorite modern actors, and I was delighted to find out he played one of the major characters. Emily Blunt(!!!). Intense, suspenseful, and fun - I liked this movie a lot. I particularly liked the character arc of the boy in the movie. In hindsight the resolution at the end was in plain sight the whole time, but for whatever reason it still felt like a surprise to me.

Nobody: I really love Bob Odenkirk in BB/BCS, and I had heard that this movie is really good, but I was surprised at how much I liked it. I liked it so much that I basically watched it twice on one flight (once by myself, and once over my friend's shoulder - as soon as I finished it I told him he had to watch it). Violent and quirky if not all that original, I would call this the best movie I've seen in a while. I'm probably going to watch it again with Mrs. Ned in the near future...

John Wick 2 & 3: My buddy & I watched these in the hotel after a week of backpacking. For whatever reason I've resisted watching the John Wick movies... but I became an instant fan. I need to watch the first one, and then 2&3 again. I was surprised to read that John Wick and "Nobody" actually take place in the same universe, and that future movies may feature some crossovers. Now that I think about it, these movies have a lot of similarities.

WW84: Gal Gadot is the sole redeeming part of this movie - she almost saves it. But other than her, nothing in this movie could keep my attention. I didn't even finish it...

I want an Armond spinoff.

I gotta say that show really ratchets the level of anxiety and emotion you feel with the musical score.
lol that would be great. The score is definitely top notch. I really hope the last episode really ends this miniseries well.

Space Jam: A New Legacy

No redeeming value. Second worst movie I've ever had the misfortune of watching ahead of only Observe and Report.

0/10

How could they do such a terrible job on the sequel, when the first one was such a masterpiece??

Free Guy - 7/10

This is fun for a watch. It's just Ryan Reynolds being Ryan Reynolds. If you happen to have any pre-teen nephews who are addicted to video games, this is a good movie to take them to. The graphics are really fun & the storyline is a fun concept (very pared down for kids). Good for a watch-once popcorn movie! It actually did a really good job holding my attention the whole time.

Deepfaked Ryan Reynolds as The Dude was hilarious. FRIENDLY GESTURE!

I liked the underlying concept that AI became sentient.

Great moment at the end with the two IRL. Although I thought one of them was going to get hit by a car lol.

I'm shocked they did it for under $125 million, the graphics were SUPER fun!

The best moment of the movie was the Captain America shield with the music & then Chris Evans, followed by the Hulk punch & then the lightsaber. Perfect hahaha.

They tied in a lot of movie concepts, everything from Inception with the buildings to Groundhog Day, but didn't get overbearing with it.

I lol'd at the part in the beginning when he orders a different drink & the tank starts aiming at him in the diner.

The War of the Worlds (2019, on Tubi) 7/10: This 3 episode WotW adaptation is by far more faithful to the original book than either of the other 2 movies I've seen. I thought it was really good - great characters, great CGI, several great action scenes, good story. I really dig the Victorian-era setting - it makes mankind's plight in the face of an overwhelming military force seem even more bleak. My one complaint - and this is a major ding - is that at the end it suffers from "Lord of the Rings" syndrome. The movie overstays its welcome by about 15-20 minutes (i.e. the last 15-20mins are nothing more than emotional filler bs that makes the show much, much worse, not better). I wish I could tell you the exact timestamp where you should quit watching...at that point in the story, I might give this film a 8/10 or even a 9/10...
