Been on a Kung Fu binge recently so here it is

Bodyguards and Assassins - 8/10. I went in hoping for a simple kung fu action flick. I was not prepared for an hour long slow buildup to an amazing hour chase sequence. The fights were short, but intense and you could feel the energy and emotion stay sky high for the entire hour. The buildup, while approaching boring at times, was crucial to setting up such an awesome setpiece.

Ip Man 1&2 9.5/10- Anyone who likes kung fu movies should watch these movies. Great stories, great acting, amazing choreography.

Flashpoint- 6.5/10 - Fairly standard cop movie. Ending fight sequence was kinda too off for my tastes.

Shanghai Incident - 7.5/10. Jackie Chan is too old to do action movies, but this movie was still pretty good. No fancy gymnastics. I thought the pacing was pretty off as well as the ending being a downer. Effects such as blood and stuff looked terrible however. Blood literally looked like ketchup. However, extremely intense at times and Jackie does amazingly well in this movie.

Ink - 7.6/10 - Admirable movie. Anyone that complains about Hollywood putting out the same crap over and over should watch this. Some deep themes, life, death, afterlife. Interesting mix of low budget and special effects. Camera effects were a bit overwhelming for me at times, but acceptable over all. I though it was remarkably well acted despite the pedigrees of the actors. Thought they did a great job with the music as well. Starts off very confusing/all over the place but they do a decent job pulling everything together.

Didn't like Ip Man 2 as much as the first. Just seemed completely corny that he couldn't completely whip the british boxer's ass after seeing what he did in Ip Man 1.

I actually really iked Ip Man 2.
It was very different in that Ip Man 1 had a much darker story while Ip Man 2 was a bit more light hearted.

I don't think it was corny at all. Martial Arts has never been about insane amounts of strength. So in Ip Man 1, it was two masters duking it out.

In Ip Man 2, the boxer dude was obscenely strong and durable. He makes a show of the kung fu guys unable to hurt him even with a direct punch. So in the fight, you can see that Ip Man really could not hurt the guy without using kicks, which is why it was banned, as it was "unfair". In contrast to the boxer, who put Ip to the floor with every punch that connected.

Ip Man was out of his element fighting an opponent who could take all his heavy hits and fight back against this kung fu with sheer strength.

How did ipman dispatch him (British boxer)? Eyes, throat, neck, balls. Why did it take him umpteen rounds to figure this out? It was lame. He could have done that in the first round, no boxer can withstand such an attack.

I dont have any idea why people hate Wild Wild West. It was just as stupid as Men In Black and just as annoying as Men In Black 2.

Gandhi (1982) 9/10

If you haven't watched it, you should. Great film about a great man. Don't let the date fool you, you would never know this was filmed in 1982.

Ted - 4/10

What a shitty movie. I reluctantly agreed to go to this movie.. I was really interested to watch Moonrise Kingdom.. but unsurprisingly, I lost the majority vote. I actually liked the acting and Mila Kunis was hot, but Seth MacFartlane is such a talentless hack.

The main reason I didn't want to see this movie is because of the timing. I pretty sure he got the idea after watching Wilfred. I couldn't stop myself compare it to Wilfred, it was really a pain sitting through the movie.

The jokes are juvenile, the script is horrific and the fart jokes.. they are not funny anymore you asshole. I fucking hate teddy bears. He had so much creative freedom with this movie and all we got was cliche ridden plot and fart jokes. DIAF Seth, you are not funny.

Ted - 2/10

From my other thread:
This is easily the worst movie of 2012 in my book. Boring, cliched, laboring romance BS, sucky slapstick, and fart/poop jokes that I would have found funnier if I was... 20.
It has a bear that bangs women and admittedly has no penis (yet it shows him from behind thrusting his hips, and the woman is acting like it's the best sex in her life). Later, Ted beats the shit out of Marky Mark, and a few scenes later he's being dismembered by a fat kid. So Ted can beat up Marky Mark, but he can't handle a fat little kid?

No, just no, and all around fail. The only reason I gave it a 2 is because some (once every 15 minutes) of the one liners were chuckle worthy, but nowhere near side splitting. The other star is for Mila Kunis hawtness.

Seth McFarlane clearly made this movie to trick the general public into paying for a hot steaming log hiding behind the mask of his other decent works like Family Guy. So in that sense he was very clever.

Just read busydude's review, and I agree on the Wilfred sentiment. He definitely bit some of Wilfred which I would have gladly watched over this POS movie. Thank God I didn't pay for it. Get high or drunk or trip beforehand, that's the only way this movie would be funny.

Twelve Angry Men (1957) - 10/10
A local discount store had it for $2 or $3, so I just couldn't leave it there, not owning a copy. On the off chance anyone reading this thread has never seen this, do yourself a favor and watch it ASAP. I don't care if you don't like courtroom dramas, you still need to see this one.

A.D. Police Files - 8/10
The best of the Bubblegum Crisis franchise. Gritty in a way they have trouble doing with vector drawing applications these days, and no silliness from working girl mercenaries.

Now, all we have left is Opie. Sad days.

I watched 7 episodes of Girls yesterday. Good show

We watched the first two episodes last night and liked it quite a bit. Pretty sharp writing and interesting characters. Definitely going to watch the rest of the season.

Thor - 5/10 - seemed so cheesy and cliche

Limitless - 9/10 - really enjoyed this movie.

That's so weird, I'd give Thor a 6/10 or so for good stupid action, and Limitless 1.5/10 for being utterly brainless and packed with bad writing, acting, editing, and a total waste of an interesting premise.

you just liked Thor better because Natalie Portman was in it.
