The Brothers Grimm
How does one f’ up such a straight forward movie concept? I know, add the French! It’s like they had two script writers who couldn’t agree on anything. The main story was a slam dunk with hundreds of fairy tales to tap, the script should have written itself. When the movie stuck to the plot, it was pretty good and the visuals were great. 5/10.

Interesting. I assume you're talking about this film: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0355295/
I didn't think it was a *great* movie, but I'd class it as a perfectly enjoyable movie. It's been a while since I last watched it, but aren't there like 10 lines or less of French in the entire film?

Good Luck to You, Leo Grande (2022)

Interesting film. IMO it's about working in the sex trade as it is about toxic attitudes towards sex.

I think Caligula was financed by the trashy owner of Penthouse magazine. It was his pet project.

Yeah, so it's horrible.
not even a splendid Dame Helen Mirren can save it, that's how bad it is.

and .. yes. And no.

From what i gather, the film was shot by two separate directors, Tinto Brass - who for a time had been a reasonably respectable director of erotic films, with an artistic vein, and Bob Guccione, who only shot porn. Then in editing they did a million different versions, some for TV with barely any nudity, and some full-on porn. Guccione spliced in the porn scenes "to spice up the film" to his own liking according to what edition he was releasing, completely fucking up an already horrible film.

The script was written by the very respectable Gore Vidal, who saw it being absolutely butchered. Keep in mind that 1979 was still trailing the Golden Age Of Porn, and filmmakers were drooling at the prospect of having AAA-title audiences with gonzo-porn budgets.

I thought it was well-known that that movie was shot as a 'normal' film and then all the porn was shot afterwards and intercut into it, much to the (understandable) dismay/horror of the serious thesps who had signed up for what they thought was a serious drama.

Didn't know, though, that there were different versions of it released.

I'm talking about

the entire subplot involving the French occupation. It muddled the main plot while doing nothing to advance the main plot. There were all sorts of side adventures the cast could have engaged in that would have been consistent with a movie centered on Grimms' Fairy Tales. For example, the mud creature from the well was excellent and right on theme. With the French, why are they even in this movie?

Enola Holmes 2.
7.5/10
sequel to the first movie. they opted to write an original story rather than follow the novels apparently. it has the feel of a BBC movie in that the budget isnt all that big and the locations and cinematography arent as ambitious(at least nowhere as impressive as the first movie). it starts a little rough and takes 35 min before it gets involving.

the actors are good. henry cavill as sherlock is given way more time onscreen and more to do than the first movie, while still leaving enola as the main character.

the first movie was more compelling and taut as there was an narrative imperative presented from the outset, this one meanders before finding something serious to drive things forward.

there are a few moments of characters having to hold the 'stupid stick/idiot ball'.

this is probably just a recommendation to watch the first one (9/10).

Avatar: The Way of Water 6.5/10
I found the plot to be just as bland as the first Avatar. I was looking for the 3D effects to save it, but it never did. The 3D in The Way of Water was no where as good as the first Avatar. I don't know if I will see the third movie because of it.

Jack Ryan season 1 was pretty good. Season 2 started off good but after episode 4 it was just starting to get a little silly and I'm hopefully going to get through 7 and 8 at some point.

Doesn't sound like season 3 gets any better?

and because you are all a bunch of morons and i have to spell it out for you, in order of good:
1. Brian Tyree Henry as Lemon
2. Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Tangerine
and i could end it here, because the rest doesnt make sense unless YOU WATCH THE FUCKING MOVIE
but 3. Brad Pitt as Ladybug HE IS NOT A PRIMARY CHARACTER
then literally 4. Sandra Bullock who appears IN VOICE ONLY
and then everyone else.

so much for being tolerant of modern appraoches to filmwriting.

Alice in Borderland 8.5/10 - Second season released on Netflix recently, wrapping up the series. Generally excellent story. Good action. Likeable characters. The anime-esque existential dialogues sometimes drags it down.

See, this is why you guys canty have nice things.

First, why would you ruin the surprise.

Second, this is a joke in the movie. She appears in voice only, and is *meant* to appear in voice only. She is, after all, the handler for these guy, "control". The fact that she shows up unannounced at the end of the film is a plot point, that twists its own trope.

Well, you tricked us. I, along with probably many, thought that you got too bored and didn't watch the movie till the end.

I didn't say anything because I know sometimes you get too impatient

Which reminds me. Test your patience with this (SPOILER: female chest nudity): https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9340916/reference/

King of Staten Island 6/10 - Feel good movie

Watched this animated movie for a few minutes and I thought it was pretty funny: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10473036/reference/

Chick flick: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt16233952/reference/

SPOILER: actress looks horrible when she's sad. Like way too horrible. It adds 10 years to her face.

Well the manga is only 18 volumes and the ova anime adaptation was only three episodes and released in 2014. Was ok I guess.

The Netflix adaptation is definitely better than the anime on account of being much longer.

Death game is a popular genre in Japan.
