On TCM the original The Getaway with Steve McQueen. So much better than the remake, especially since my girlfriend Sally Struthers is in the original. Before she ate all the donations for the starving Ethiopian kids.

Oh no, please save me. Some of my QAnon family wants me to go see SOUND OF FREEDOM with them on Monday. I'll go only because the theater is a theater/restaurant setting and they serve some of the best pizza. Kinda pricy night out considering, but I'll go for the pizza if nothing else.

So as for the movie...
Sound Of Freedom.
I looked it up, watched the trailer, and I know it has heavy QAnon support because the Q's believe that everyone not them is a pedophile and a supporter of child trafficking.

SO well see what happens Monday. I pretty much know what to expect. Stay tuned.

Seriously, how fucking useless does one have to be to use this word to complain about things these days? do you understand that it makes you sound like a fucking illiterate idiot that can't possibly consider anything on merit without expecting it to offend his delicate sensitivities about things he has no fucking hope of ever understanding?

What happened to the brains of this generation? Why do you people let yourselves be converted to abject trash, so easily?

One-Eyed Jacks (1961, only film directed by Marlon Brando, he also starred) 9/10

Saw this at least twice in it's theatrical rerun in 1966, just loved it. Criterion put out a version in 2016, which resulted from a Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg fueled project doing a 4k restoration.

Got ahold of my local library's Criterion DVD, watched it a couple days ago, both the movie and all the extras and decided that the Blu-ray is worth getting and have received it and I was right! It was the last VistaVision movie made, a process that doubles the resolution of 35mm.

This is a western like no other. Brando was central to it, eventually taking over as director from Stanley Kubrick. It had to be cut from 5-8 hours for release in 1961, by Paramount, it's 141 minutes. The cinematography is excellent and dynamic. Brando was perfectionistic. This warrants the Blu-ray treatment, even 4k, but Criterion didn't produce a 4k or I would have bought that.

This is arguably a precursor of the spaghetti westerns and superior. Great casting, still works.

Andor 2022 9.5/10

finally finished watching andor. probably the only really great thing to come out of the star wars series on Dis+. not kid friendly so they can focus on serious plots. direction and acting is top notch.
pacing is a bit odd, someone described it as 3x 4-episode arcs where they are quasi self contained. there are a few places where it drags but you could also call it dwelling on the imagery to set an oppressive mood.
it is a spy/political thriller with the odd heist element. the fact that it is set in the SW universe is incidental, but it does a ton of work in rehabilitating the validity of the rebellion by documenting the actual evil of the empire and authoritarianism.

assuming it can maintain this level of quality in coming seasons, it will probably take over the crown of must watch series that early game of thrones had.

lets hope the writers strike doesnt derail the 2nd season but rather just gives the show runner more time to polish the product.

No luck finding Oh Lucky, i instead watched Mr Inbetween - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr_Inbetween

.. which is basically The Sopranos, but in a 20-minute format. Which, does make it much easier to watch. Because, hey, when you get that boring "character-building" episode, BAM! 10 minutes and it's done. And the other 10 minutes is the guy killing someone, probably.

I like it. I had fun and it didn't overstay its welcome.

Wander 6/10

Starring Tommy Lee Jones, from 2020. It's about a former detective, now conspiracy theorist and private investigator who is a bit mentally disturbed. He is hired to investigate a murder in New Mexico where he is hanging out with his friend, a like-minded conspiracy guy played by Jones.

He becomes convinced the murder is linked to a conspiracy coverup similar to his daughter's death several years prior. This is the craziest movie I've seen for a long time that left me with a weird feeling saying "Holy shit, what did I just watch?". A bit hard to follow towards the end but it was somewhat entertaining.

i watched
Wander - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9689696/reference/

with Aaron Eckhart starring, and Tommy Lee Jones playing a supporting role.

Somewhere in New Mexico a ex-policeman is reduced to hosting a podcast on conspiracy theories, after having lost most of his marbles years prior during a case that involved a mysterious death, a disappeared corpse, and a "woman-in-black".
He is quickly recruited to investigate the apparent murder of another girl in pretty much the same situation - instead of having been shot, "something exploded out of her".

And, the film VERY CLEARLY show you this and tells you this without any chance of being misunderstood - these people have some explosive device implanted in them. The mysterious woman even states "this person knew she would die with the exploding thingie if she did the no-no thing".

The protagonist, being that he is, while not completely insane, very far removed from reality, is easily persuaded to investigate the situation, and rapidly finds that underground laboratory where those explosive things the film told us about being implanted into people, are implanted into people.
.. there is some kind of a resolution. The film ends.

When i started watching, i was very happy. There are some gorgeous opening shots and some really brilliant cinematography, but it's only the first 10-20 minutes. Then it starts having a lot of shakeycam - for NO reason, think "guy opens a drawer, SHAKEYCAM !" - and a lot of visual distortion, possibly to show that the protagonist is nearly hallucinating.

Eckhart is good in his role (so is everyone else) but this is a very non-relatable protagonist.
The plot is "we hired you to investigate us who are the criminals, because if we hired someone else (or didnt hire nobody) there would be no film". It is played VERY straight, with very very little surprise. They even have a moustache-twirling endscene where they expouse the entire plot to the protagonist.
Heather Graham is still spectacular.

.. i'm afraid this again is a case of no-cream, which is why this film didn't raise to the top.
For the decent performances, a good number of nice visual shots, interesting soundtrack and gorgeous MILF Graham, i will give it a almost-satisfactory: 6.5/10

Yeah, I didn't want to add spoilers but I agree. I loved the first part, and felt it was clear that his whole theory was true. They got too carried away with trying to make you think he was just insane.

I watched

Oh Lucy! - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6343058/reference/

which i found to be veeery different from the "quirky comedy" that the trailers imply it to be, but otherwise a well made film.

There's a office girl in japan. She is .. a bit of a rebel. But, a rebel on a "strict" to "extremely strict" scale. The most rebelling she can do is get drunk at the office party.
She is convinced to take part in a .. dubious english class, and in doing this gets involved with 1. some american guy named John, who is the boyfriend of 2. her estranged niece Mika, and 3. Mika's mother.
Eventually the have an on-the-road adventure with some family & existential drama, but the film delicately skirts between being a comedy and a serious film.

Obviously it's mostly in Japanese w/ subtitles. The acting was good, the cinematography was okaish (weird washed-out colors), competent direction and a good script, with good dialogue, despite it being in a foreign language (subs were good).
The main aspect of the plot is that the protagonist, Setsuko, likes the idea of being "Lucy", an alltogether happier alter-ego, even if things don't really work the way she wishes them to.

Asteroid City - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asteroid_City
and it was shit.
I will link you the wikipedia page so maybe by reading it, you can tell if there's a plot.
Starring EVERYONE, it's a nonsensical, constant vomit of out of context dialogue.
I have to say that, Scarlett Johansson has the gravitas to make ANY role she plays look good, but i would still not recommend this, even to Wes Anderson fans. This is bad Wes Anderson. This is there is no plot, just tenuously linked scenes that do not give a fuck about having an audience Wes Anderson. Save yourself and go watch Royal Tenenbaums instead.

MI: Dead Reckoning Part 1

The Good:

Bits of comedy with serious faces, strewn throughout.
Excellent chemistry between The Cruise and Hayley Atwell
Some breathtaking vistas
Car, motorcycle and mini car stunts
Hilarious mini car chase sequence
MI on a train, done really well

The Bad:

Plot is overly complicated and not fleshed out very well (similar to the Rabbit's foot crap from MI:3)
Expository dialogue to let first time viewers get some background that is jarring to hear (IMF? The Bank???)
Nightclub scenes are directed really weird. Seem poor compared to the rest of the movie.
Villain doesn't work, at least for me. Should have just hired George Clooney.
No planes or helicopters.
Car does not launch into space.
The Cruise looks scared before jumping off a cliff.

The Ugly:

The hard to believe scenes where Hayley Atwell's character, a clever criminal, is scared into joining the IMF, voluntarily.

6.5/10 (Watch in a good Dolby Atmos theater)

Knock At The Cabin - A film by M. Night Shyamalan
6.5/10

Cool premise. Script was pretty tight, special effects were meh but used sparingly. Enjoyed the character motivations and various speeches given by each.
