Serpico 6.5/10

This film seems to get so much praise but I just don't see it. Finely acted by Pacino but the whole movie just rolls through everything too quickly, practically no character development, and I hardly got any feeling for what he was going through. He moves from one department to another with almost nothing happening.

I had a free redbox code last night and was debating Seven Psychopaths. Decided to wait a little longer for a rewatch and went with Looper instead. Big mistake

I thought my siblings and I were the only ones that didn't like Looper.

Hotel Transylvania - 6.25/10

It was very predictable, but better then I expected. Several of the jokes were good, there was some humor obviously aimed at the adults in the room, but nothing that I had to explain to the kids. Overall for a show appropriate for young children I found it entertaining.

End of Watch

I really liked it.
I think Jake Gyllenhaal nailed the part so well. I did not expect that quality of acting from him.

God Bless America -- 8.5/10

Started off a little slow and almost shut if off after a few minutes, didn't seem all that interesting. Then the first rant happened, and it really started to shine.

This movie was good. It was really good -- and it was painful to watch at the same time, because everything in this movie was accurate. Some may dislike it because it's kinda preachy, but it didn't bother me because I can agree 100% with nearly all of what the film was trying to say. The rants (for a lack of a better way of putting them) were incredible both in writing and delivery by both characters.

Docked a few just because I had a little trouble with reality here. Length was good, was sad to see it end. Recommended it to several people today.

There is no way the neighbor didn't report his car as stolen and no way that the first cop didn't run the plate and see that it was on the wrong car, which would have basically stopped them after the first couple. Besides, a bright yellow Camero doesn't exactly blend in.

They also stood in the park long enough for someone / cops to show up, same with the movie theater. Just couldn't stop feeling like it was a little far fetched that they got away with it for as long as they did.

Also, the baby scene. That is all. I was speechless.

God Bless America was an interesting movie, but some of the things that you hear about it make you think that it's a remake of Postal with an older guy. However,
the movie may include some violent acts against the "bane of our society", but the movie transitions into exploring the father-daughter bond forming between the older guy and the girl.

As for End of Watch, when I saw the trailer, my first thought was, "I bet this would be better without the silly, fake documentary camera style." Did you get that feeling from it?

Anyone else see Perks of Being a Wallflower yet? Saw it a month or so ago and really enjoyed it. Now that it's out on dvd I may have to watch it again.

I've heard it's really good. Unfortunately I missed it when it played here.

God Bless America is an accurate critic of America's obsession with stupid and banal media.

This film deserves a wider audience. 8/10 for me.

Django Unchained is awesome, I have to dock it a bit for the length though. 8.7/10

Well, I would agree, but after watching it...I think they did just fine. It's a damn good movie.

Finally got around to watching My Cousin Vinny -- 8/10

Thought it was pretty funny. Marisa Tomei did an excellent job, so much so that I wish I could've taped her damn mouth shut. Never been out east, and if that's how everyone ACTUALLY talks out there, I can't say I'll be in a hurry to check it out.

Just about freakin lost it when the public defender started his whole stuttering thing with the opening statement. Caught me by surprise.

I live in NYC and haven't come across anyone with such thick NY accent. You probably have to venture out to working class of Brooklyn or something.

Body Double - 1984 - 7/10

Epic soundtrack - Seriously, if you have a home theater system you will enjoy the soundtrack. It really helps create the mood and moves the movie along.

Much like a Hitchcok movie - this had many twists and turns . Party Mystery, Part Horror, and part Porno fantasy.

Depalma really uses the camera effectively to help the viewer understand the gripping terror.

It's an old flick - some critics loved it, some critics hated it - doubt it could be made today without a NC-17 rating.

That's because it is a rip-off/homage/re-imagining (whatever you want to call it) of Rear Window.

I never could get into DePalma. All he ever did was re-hash established, famous content and toss in cheesy synthesized audio. I don't think he put together a single shot that wasn't lifted from either Hitchcock or Welles.

In the early 80s, SNL did a spoof ad about this, about his new film "The Clams."

Does anyone watch movies on hulu? I just loaded up a Kurosawa and there are TWELVE commercial breaks in there. I don't think I can handle that. And if I was paying? eek
