and netflix.com isn't one of them, unless you are subbed?

fucking terrible...

I think you can google individual movies (netflix "movie x") and pull up the actual netflix page that gives you the format options. Not exactly what you want, but it's something. And like someone else said, there are some other sites you can use and they should have links to the actual netflix pages, which I am pretty sure you can view without being a member, you just can't find them via the netflix site

can't you try it free for a month...

nope, not for blurays. only streaming and dvds, which i don't care about.

unless it's hidden somewhere on their hideous website. the more i have clicked around their site the worse it gets lol. their goal is to not let you look at stuff unless you are signed up and paying. guess i can't blame them for that though.

I can't stand their website or their interface either, but I thought if you got the free month you would be able to at least see the entire catalogue, even though you may not be able to get discs sent to you.

no idea. but i'm not signing up and giving my cc info just so that i can view their bluray catalog.

ill just stick to redbox and probably purchase the 3d movies i wanna watch in 3d, or i may use one of those 3d bluray rental sites, which are like $8 to rent 3d movies, but if i'm only going to watch them once, it's more than the ~$27 or so it costs to purchase them.

Netflix does have a crappy site, but for $16 a month, it is totally worth it. I watch alot of documentaries, and have found many, many gems on there I'd never see otherwise. For DVD's, I mainly use my library, but get the newer releases from Netflix while my library has wait lists of 200+.

The Arrival - 7/10

Old sci-fi thriller with Charlie Sheen I haven't seen in ages. If you don't like sci-fi, you will probably rate this much lower, but an interesting film, although dated.

if anyone has seen the life of pi in 3d i've lot to hear your opinion on the 3d effects. i hate how you cannot really rent 3d content from the usual places. and the 3d blurays are always more expensive too, and i hate buying movies now a days cause i rarely watch them more than one time.

Arguably the best 3D movie I've seen. I swore I'd never see another one but got dragged to the theater to see this and it was amazing.

Such an under appreciated movie. One of the few movies I still have on DVD and Blu ray. It would be great if they made a real sequel, and in the opening scene he wakes up from a nightmare and realizes the first sequel they made was just a paranoid delusion.

Especially with the way Charlie Sheen looks now. He looks like he was hiding from a conspiracy for the last 20 years.

Prometheus - 8/10 - My kind of movie. Visually stunning to me. Couple plot issues for me, may just be my lack of understanding... Probably was all hashed out in earlier discussions, but I had avoided them until now.
1)
Why did the bad robot poison the guy?
2)
I don't really understand what the black liquid was supposed to be. In in the intro it showed it disintigrating the guys DNA, but in the movie it poisoned the guy, then impregnated the girl with a facehugger (and didnt make her sick)?
3)
The bad robot knew she was impregnated with an alien lifeform, and refused to grant abortion, yet didnt do anything to stop her from doing it on her own? Did not seem interested in her after that point in general, but initially seemed very keen on her carrying the fetus...
4)
How could the two members of the initial party get lost? The group was being monitored by the ship, who also had a map of the structure.
5)
How did the geologist come back to life?
6)
Its not clear to me if the aliens were the weapon, or if the black juice was the weapon and the aliens crashed the party.

All the answer you need are in the red letter media review of Prometheus:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-x1YuvUQFJ0

4.
the even insaner issue with those two getting lost is the one wanted to leave because he was creeped out by aliens yet he was the first to touch one, WTF???

I thoroughly enjoyed promethius, but upon reflection the plot and all the holes it had are silly that it ever got made. I suppose if another director had taken it we would not have seen it because it would have been a cheesy B grade movie but Ridley at least entertained us, IMO.

Django Unchained 8/10. Great acting, except I felt Fox was a bit inconsistent with his ignorance. But the scowl of Jackson was spooky and DeCaprio was spot on.

The thing I knock it for is the screenplay. It is a really cool story for sure, but the way it plays out I felt was structured really poorly. Funny to be that it won best original screenplay when it is really one of the film's weaknesses.

The doctor shooting Candie was just too random for me. Yes he is disgusted by Candie but earlier in the film we're given no indication just how passionate he is about his disgust for slavery. Aside from the opening scene, his motivation seems more to collect money and justify his actions because the men are criminals (not necessarily slave owners).

Add to that we're given no indication why an insincere handshake matters at all.. why would he die, cause Django to probably die, and his wife, when they were about to walk out the door?

And letting the black man get eaten by dogs.. was a situation that called for a clever solution by the protagonists. While what they did made sense to fulfil their mission, it was still wrong and maybe the only dark spot on them both (you either have a full on hero or a conflicted hero, in this case it was only raised once.. aside from killing the guy in front of his son)

I must be missing something

Hope you have a good sound system. Django on the big screen is one of the rare movies that I just wouldn't have liked as much at home. Killer soundtrack.

skyfall - 3/5

probably woulda given it 4/5 if it weren't for a few things that made me facepalm.

the first one (wont spoil anything) was (note that i'm a developer) was when the hex code in the screen showed O U H when those aren't even hex.

the second (not a detailed spoiler but i guess kind of one) was when the dude was choked underwater and acted as if now he couldn't breathe because of it.

Hope you have a good sound system. Django on the big screen is one of the rare movies that I just wouldn't have liked as much at home. Killer soundtrack.

my speakers at home will out do pretty much most theaters, so stuff at home sounds even better for me

Zero Dark Thirty - 7/10 The torture scene was cringe worthy. I bet it's not even an accurate depiction. A group of Korean or Russian mob with a butcher's apron and carving a slaughter knife would get me piss my pants than their sissy approach. The infiltration scene was entertaining enough I guess. As a MOVIE, it was rather a dull overall. And it's not a documentary either.

The Raid: Redemption 6/10: I picked this up solely because of you guys in this thread. I didn't even know it existed. GF and I turned it off about 15 mins in. You can make a serious movie with splash of humor. This movie tries so hard to be serious, but absolutely shitty dialogue and crappy police behavior turns me off. And it was just boring. Changed the movie to Zero Dark Thirty instead.

Django Unchained 7.5/10: Not as wholesome as Inglorious Basterds. The quintessential Tarantino dialogue wasn't as memorable this time around either. I put this movie below Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill series.

The Bridge over the River Kwai 6/10 Don't get the accolades. Guiness was superb, but I don't think it is a great movie.

The Horseman - 7/10 Came up as recommended on Netflix. Low-budget, lo-fi indie Australian flick about a dad that goes on a revenge spree against the people responsible for his daughter's death (that's all in the synopsis, so not a spoiler). Nothing groundbreaking in terms of story, some of the acting is meh, and not a lot of on-screen gore, but it's pretty thrilling and quite intense.

Don't watch before bed.

The Game 8/10 WTF did I just watch? I can buy into the implausibility of such prank company that would get sued back into the stone age. My biggest gripe is the unrealistic reaction of the protagonist.

He was fucking driven to committing suicide. No one can just shake that off and immediately celebrate the night. And he would have decades of nightmares & PTSD. Also he would require many many years of therapy.

That part is completely inconsistent with the 'realistic' tone of the movie.

I give a 8 because it was very suspenseful.

I did not like zero dark thirty, I would rate it s 5 or 6 out of 10. Partly bc it was dull like you said, as well as I cold empathize with the main character. Also, I was disappointed with the small screen time the seal team recieved, since they practiced quite a bit in preparing to assault the compound.

Django... I though it could have been a bit shorter.

This weekend I watched:

Argo 8/10 - I liked this movie a lot. You don't really see this type of spy movie anymore. It is character and dialog driven with little action, and manages to tell a good story. I didn't know Hollywood still told stories, I thought they just stung together large explosions.

End of Watch 4/10 - I don't get all the hype. There was not much of a story, there was almost no good action. And it is shaky cam. All they really did was try to make it sentimental with out giving you a reason to care about the characters. It reminded me of an overproduced episode of COPS! Would not recommend. Bah! Humbug.
