Cloverfield - 7/10. I thought that I'd hate this one. They did a good job with the camera work.

I did not see this in the theaters. When I finally saw it on cable, I became enthralled with it. I really like this movie.

Paranormal Activity 4 - 2/10

I did enjoy the 3rd Paranormal Activity quite a bit so I was pretty interested in the 4th one and it stinks. The interaction with the Xbox Kinect was the only good thing in the movie, the rest of it was the same old story. You might as well queue up Aerosmith's "Same Old Song and Dance", it is the SAME EXACT formula as the previous 3 and adds NOTHING to the story or lore. I can't blame them for wanting to milk the crap out of this franchise but could they maybe add a little creativity to the story? Would that be so hard? I really hope the next one bombs

hah, i skipped part 3 actually and saw part 4 not too long ago and actually enjoyed part 4 quite a bit. but yeah i agree, definitely more of the same.

Zero Dark Thirty - 8.5/10. Gripping the whole way through, although it felt very, very long
Compliance - 6.5/10. Interesting enough but wasn't a greaaaat movie. Pretty mind blowing how it was based on a true story though.

I've watched a lot of movies lately.

Tree of Life felt the most worth writing about. But, I can't translate it's language of emotion and poetry into words. I am not a poet, but I'll try anyhow. The film was a towering monument of humility that transcends all genres of film. While watching this film I felt the full gamut of emotion. Its subject is life itself. I watched it a second time the very next day. It is beautiful beyond description. It is both one of the most joyful and one of the most menolcholy of films. Opinions on this film are very polarized, for good reason. Either you see it for what it is, and it connects with you like no other, or you feel no connection, and therefore see it as pretentious garbage. It connected with me.

The wife wanted to see Jurassic Park in 3D IMAX, so we went yesterday. I had a good time and liked seeing the movie again, but the 3D wasn't really good, and IMAX was definitely overkill for a movie that wasn't filmed in IMAX.

The people looked 2D still, but they were offset from the background. In some scenes it worked, but in others... not so great.

Zero Dark Thirty - 9/10. Really enjoyed this one, loved the emphasis on the intel and not so much the raid at the end.

Django Unchained - 10/10. Loved this movie. Probably tied with Pulp Fiction as my favorite tarantino movie. Leonardo DiCaprio was robbed for not getting nominated for this one.

Oldboy - 8.5/10
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0364569/
After hanging out in my Netflix queue for quite a while, I finally gave this a go. I'm usually not into foreign movies, but this one was pretty good. Even though I picked up on the big reveal really early it still delivered, I haven't been left in afterthought about a movie that much since Requiem for a Dream.
Looks like a remake by Spike Lee in the future. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1321511/ Hope it doesn't get butchered.

Prometheus - 6/10
Great visuals, but I ended up with more questions than answers.

i just started watching band of brothers for the first time since it aired. i can't believe it is nearly 12 years old holy crap!

i only watched episode 1 last night and forgot so much about it. totally forgot that brody from homeland was in it lol! although, i do think i remember what happens to him, but i don't remember much at all about this series so i could be totally wrong.

it's pretty awesome watching it in a theater setting especially because i've only seen it a 27" tv prior to this. it is quite grainy at parts (watching the blu ray) but i know that is kind of the style of it. definitely looks grainier at parts than saving private ryan and it's definitely inconsistent with the grainy-ness too.

awesome first episode though i'm going to probably watch a couple tonight because there is nothing on tv other than the capitals game i want to watch.

Yeah I loved this one. The cast is amazing and just watching them interact was worth the 90 minutes.

The Color Purple - 11/10

For serious?

.... and after that thought ....

OK, read Wikipedia intro.

1) Can't believe it is from 1985 even thoguh I remember alot of talk when I was younger about this movie.
2) I only know Whoopie Goldberg for Ghost. I just envision her like that in all movies.

I guess I just never knew what the plot was and I am now intrigued.

Frozen Four .. 11/10 ;-) on ESPN2

Life of Pi - 8/10

Watched it today. Acting is not bad at all. Wish I had watched it on a bigger screen rather than a computer monitor.

Tai Chi Zero - 4/10

I have no idea what's going with this movie. There're way too many pop ups. Choreography is good, but plot and story fails.

not sure if you knew this or not, but that was that kids first movie the one who played pi. he took his brother to the auditions and was waiting for his brother and his brother came out without getting the part, and they asked him if he wanted to try out. and the rest is history.

Silent Hill: Revelation 2/10
What a POS. I didn't play the games so I have no idea how they get from the ending of the first movie to a second movie when everybody died in the town. They pull off some stupid deus ex machina crap to get the kid from the first movie back into the real world and now her and her dad are on the run from cultist from Silent Hill. Of coarse they end up there and creepy stuff happens blah blah no plot. The first movie isn't great but it has a good eerie feeling to it, I really liked the switching from light to dark. This movie pretty much takes place completely during a dark phase. Anyway it just sucks and makes no sense. Oh and bad demon girl's makeup effects are horrible. Seriously I've seen better makeup in low budget 80s movies.

Stiiiiiiiilll on the top of my Movies To Watch list. But I'm trying to find a subtitle only version. Is the Netflix streaming one still subtitle + dubbing?

^BoB = best miniseries ever. Period.

Word.

Stolen - 2/10 I've been on this masochistic quest to watch all of Bruce Willis and Nic Cage's straight-to-DVD films, and this was one of the worst. Cast is pretty good, almost every major player is a bona-fide Hollywood star (Nic Cage, Danny Huston, Malin Ackerman, Josh Lucas, M.C. Gainey). Yet somehow they all turn in some of the worst performances of their respective careers. Cage, ok, I can handle him being a ham-fisted Keanu Reeves, Sr. But Josh Lucas is usually decent, and Danny Huston usually the mark of a worthwhile movie. They were gave terrible, phoned-in performances. Have seen better acting at a 4th grade play. The story started with promise and then turned into a a plot-hole ridden circle-jerk of illogic and idiocy. The score would have embarrassed a 1980s action cartoon. The extras were less convincing than the panhandlers that sit outside Union Station everyday looking for "5 bucks to get a train ticket to see my momma in the hospital." I'm usually pretty forgiving of mindless action flicks if they are at least somewhat entertaining, but this dreck was tortuous. Please do not watch it, unless you are so enamored with Mr. Former Coppola that you need to consume his entire oeuvre, regardless of how shitty some of his movies are. The only reason I gave it even a 2 was because at one point my mind wandered off to thinking about the scene in the Watchmen when Malin Ackerman bangs the owl guy in his flying owl-head machine, and I feel bad for all of the actors involved that have done so much better than this.

Yes, Oldboy is still dubbing with subtitles. It's not to bad since the majority of the movie is first person narrative.
