Last night me and my girlfriend watched Lords of Salem and Nothing Left to Fear. Salem was pretty shit, Rob Zombie is trying way too hard. Nothing Left to Fear pleasantly suprised me, I really enjoyed it.

Tonight I'm showing her Memento for the first time, I hope she likes it.

Bonus: She posted this comic in response to our plans tonight.

i believe KT is correct (without even checking IMDB)

have you tried the Ricky Moranis version? that happens to be one of my fav movies.

I don't think I've ever seen the whole thing, but I know that one is good. I <3 the Steve Martin dentist number.

ENDER'S GAME.. Young kids with daddy dearest i.e. Harrison Ford.
Too boring. Bad acting. Even Viola Davis asked Ford if she could leave, but I wasn't sure if she meant leave the program or leave the movie?
I think someone felt that by tossing in the x StarWars God would ensure a home run.
Didn't happen. Ford was a bit too cranky to run high tech elementary school in outer space.
And the CGI was wall to wall, but nothing impressive.
I would think for actors to make and act in a film entirely green screen set must be, to say the least, lacking of motivation.
I would expect to see this film more so on the Sci-Fi channel, not in a theater.

Then we have LAST VEGAS.
Well... at least the four stars looked like they were having fun making the movie.
While everyone in the audience napped.
Chalk this up as another road-trip film for the senior citizens crowd.
I missed the Liberace Mike Douglas.

ESCAPE PLAN?
I still can not believe people actually voted for this guy. Seriously, voted for this guy.
Handed over their states economy, governorship, future to this guy.
But in the end, they deserved everything they got for voting stupid.
Kinda like with old Ronnie Reagan.
Just proves people can often become delusional.

As far as the film? I think he finally found his true home. Prison.

CARRIE?
Why?
Seriously, why?
Thank goodness for Julianne Moore. What a trooper. She deserves all the profits, if any.

Little Shop of Horrors (1960) 5/10

Watched on Hulu Plus. It was pretty bad. What passes for "dark humor" just isn't funny at all.

Wikipedia says the movie wasn't copyrighted because it wasn't expected to be a success; so it entered public domain.
Really bad. I bought the DVD (cheap), watched, tried to sell it on ebay for extra cheap, no takers.

Man Of Steel - 6.5/10

Long on SFX & eye candy, short on dialogue and plot. No big wiggle though, I got what I wanted.

The Master - 3/10

I don't get it.

I have to admit: I didn't watch every scene in this movie. I tried hard to get into it, but I found the characters so abrasive that after a while I went to the fridge to grab something to drink, a bit later I made myself some soup, finally got up to surf the web for about 10 minutes (I could still hear the dialogue). I never felt compelled to hit pause, but did manage to return for the final section.

An alcoholic seaman (and I mean REALLY alcoholic; he drinks straight torpedo juice in an early scene) drifts aimlessly through life in a downward direction until he falls under the spell of a charismatic cult leader. All well and good (and tired), but does it have any deeper significance? I'm no wiser for having watched this film.

When early scenes show him concocting shine out of every ingredient imaginable I found myself hoping it might turn into a 1950's riff on Breaking Bad, but no such luck. He's just a fuck up loser drunk.

Near the end a character muses "If you find a way to get through life without serving a master, any kind of master, please let the rest of us know. You'd be the first human in history to do so". Maybe that's the point of this pretentious dreck.

The Purge 3/10
A good idea with a bad script. To control the population one day out of the year there are no laws and you can do anything you want. Kind of a Hunger Games thing but for every body. Lots of neat things you could do with that idea but instead we get a rich family hiding in their secure house. The other and bigger issue is everybody in this movie was a complete idiot other than some random homeless guy.

The amusing part about this movie was that I sat there for a while hoping
that the rich neighbors would be the one plotting against the family
and well... you know what happens.

Babel (Iñárritu, 2006) 8.5/10

A favorite of mine, saw it twice in 2007, watched again last night. Not Hollywood, although it has a couple of their stars (Pitt and Blanchett). Leaves you guessing about a few things, what happened to who type of stuff, but so does life! A lot of really amazing cinema that strikes you as reality, not fantasy.

Europa Report 5/10
A found footage space movie. Typical unrealistic camera placements and weird editing if going for a found footage look. Would have been a lot better if they just dumped the found footage crap and didn't jump all around the timeline for no reason. Tells the story of a group of astronauts on the first mission to Europa to look for life under the ice and they of coarse run into a few problems. For what I assume was a pretty low budget movie the effects and ship, where you spend 95% of the movie, look pretty good. Description calls it a nail biting thriller but it is really a slow paced drama and that is fine. It just popped up for streaming on Netflix and is worth a watch.

Yeah, I liked the other Rob Zombie movies but found Lords of Salem nearly unwatchable. It's too bad because the underlying premise could have been interesting, but the movie itself was really dull.
