Just watched Horrible Bosses I and II back to back. Very funny and underrated IMO.

Hancock.

It was pretty good.

I think Hancock would of been much better if they had concentrated on the comedy rather than the attempted deep emotional storyline. Stuff like throwing the whale into the ocean and it hitting a sail boat was really funny.

BB 2 was terribly awful and it was highly anticipated (8 years after the original).

God it was awful.

Ok for those who wait for movies to come out on the net, these are a big three in recent internet releases of epic fantasy adventures:

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

Exodus: God and Kings

Dragonheart 3:The Sorcerer's Curse

I just know it, I can sense it, I just know someone's going to say all three of them suck. And they'll probably be right with maybe the exception of Exodus and anyway maybe they'll turn out to be right about that one too although I hope not.

I'm having to sit through The Battle of the Five Armies at the moment (on iTunes)..it's just not as good as the first two Hobbit films. Will watch the other three movies later today.

Edit: Watched all three and all three are not very good, acting is just not very convincing in all of them. And the way the plots were presented were not that interesting.

whiplash - 8/10 - was a really solid flick. the acting was top notch in it. i really liked the end, although i feel it dragged on JUST a slight bit too much. solid movie though.

horrible bosses 2 - 5/10 -movie was meh. first one was much better imo. i didn't really laugh out loud at many parts at all in this movie and i felt they tried WWAAYYY too hard to be funny and over the top. and i realized that while i like jason bateman, his playing the same exact roll in every fucking movie is getting very old to me.

side note - watched whiplash dvd since redbox doesn't carry the bluray, and watched horrible bosses 2 bluray right after. holy shit it's been A LOT time since i watched a dvd and i can't believe the quality lol. i felt like i needed glasses while watching it, except i already had my glasses on. it reminded me of a telesync bootleg from back in the day for the first 5-10 minutes until i kinda got used to it. it's crazy the quality difference between bluray/dvd, although i bet my wife couldn't have told you the difference.

and don't even get me started with standard dolby digital vs. the HD audio tracks...

Yep

bout the only thing I can watch on DVD now is anime as the animation seems to suffer a lot less in the up scaling

Yeah, it's rough. I hate having to watch a DVD now.

CSI: Cyber 0/10 - Holy crap, this was only the first episode, but man was it bad! Even the Dawson couldn't help it. Plus, it had Lil Bow Wow. Had the token neckbeard dude along with the token "quirky" Asian girl as well.

Yeah. Feel the same way about DVD. I feel like it's wasting my time to watch a standard-def DVD. It's not that I can't enjoy a standard def movie. If I do enjoy it, I'll want to watch it again in HD...so watching the DVD is a waste of time.

Unless I know there's no chance of seeing an HD version of a particular thing, I'll avoid the DVD format at all costs.

I won't!

Watched Sideways on Blu-Ray for the first time as it's been years since I've seen it. Seems to get better every time, as the characters are so well written and acted, loads of humor is picked up from subtle gestures and remarks. The commentary track with Paul Giamatti and Thomas Haden Church is great too, a lot of self deprecation from both actors, while not always the most informative on the production, it's entertaining as hell.

Blu-Ray looks good, it's a soft picture, but it seems to be a faithful reproduction of the original film, no noticeable DNR or sharpening, and a healthy bit rate.

The only time I can really tell much of a difference between DVD and BR is if I am standing very close to my TV. At normal viewing distances they look quite similar to me. Maybe all those years of "internet research" are taking a toll on my aging eyes.

Serpico
8/10
I had it in the background and wasn't going to pay attention since I've already watched it years ago. It was still somehow entertaining. Shitty soundtrack though.

Love this movie, but I agree the score is off, I remember criticizing it in this thread earlier. The director, Sidney Lumet, has done a number of films without a score at all, and he didn't even want Serpico to have one, but he was forced by the studio. I recall him making a remark that he is happy that he got away with there being very little music throughout the movie in the special features of the Blu-Ray.

Why did no one ever warn me that years and years of...ehem..."Internet research" would impair my eyesight?

Leviathan - 9/10

Rock solid.
Not the most feel-good movie I've ever seen, but completely captivating.
