Saw furious 7 this weekend with the GF. Mind you, im 49 and shes 54, NOT the target audience, and we had free AMC tix and had time to kill. In short, this movie was beyond bad. I know Paul is dead and all but even for free this movie sucked ass. I cant believe it made 1billion bucks. I'm pretty much a sorta fan in the FF movies but this one was just the worst one. Hell, tokyo drift was better.

2/10

Started watching Hannibal a little while ago and forgot to keep up. Starting an episode now and it's wonderfully horrific. I suppose they jack up the gore because they can't curse or show sex. It's ridiculous really, because some of the stuff in this show is way more explicit than a few "fucks." But it's the only network show since LOST that I can remember enjoying. Mads Mikkelsen helps. It's not top tier tv, but it's good. For how long, I don't know, but Fox will surely drive it into the ground before long

If Hannibal isn't top tier then I don't know what is.

Birdman 6/10 - not sure I fully understood this movie, but some of the dialogue is excellent, some is a little long winded and boring.

LOTR extended edition: 10/10 Loved the films and finally got round to watching the extended editions. Some of the cuts scenes completely change bits of the films. I'd highly recommend watching these.

The call: 7/10 decent movie, worth watching.

Mr. Turner (2014) - 8/10

A beautifully made movie about the 19th century British landscape painter J.M.W. Turner, starring Timothy Spall. It tells the story of the latter third of his life, from about 1825 to 1851. Eccentric and considered controversial in his day, Turner's later works were increasingly impressionistic, upsetting everyone from the art community to the aristocracy.

Last sevenish weeks...

Fury - 5/10
Not one of the better war movies out there. At all.

Camp X-Ray - 7/10
Very slow, but K-Stew and Peyman Moaadi are great.

Tu dors Nicole (You're Sleeping Nicole) - 8/10
Gorgeous aimless French black and white beauty.

[rewatch] Interstellar - 10/10

Wild - 8/10
Reese is good here, really good, even if i wasn't the biggest fan of the story/writing.

Force Majeure - 9/10
Slice the tension with a knife. This is a brilliant film.

A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night - 9/10
Pure wonderful black and white art. Love it.
Now in my top three vampire movies of the last few years.

[rewatch] Nightcrawler - 9/10
Gyllenhaal's a beast.

Twister - 7/10
Really was enjoying this until it progressively got more and more ridiculous.

Furious 7 - 6/10
I've gotta stop supporting this franchise. Good god, some of the cringtacular lines...

The Voices - 7/10
WTF this is a weird one, but Reynolds is superb.
And Gemma Arterton is too hawt, regardless of what form she's in. :awe:

Inherent Vice - 8/10
One of the sexiest scenes i've ever seen in a movie.

[rewatch] Låt den rätte komma in (Let the Right One In) - 10/10
Got to see this in a theatre for the first time!
My favorite vamp movie (there are many older good ones i have yet to see though).

The Equalizer - 6/10
Denzel can still bring it. Movie does not.

Ex Machina - 9/10
I enjoyed it a lot. Had it's comes-out-of-nowhere funny bits and still keeps a mysterious tone as well. Who knew Skynet was so good looking?

The Garden of Words - 9/10
It's a 45-minute anime about a high school boy and a woman meeting in the park only on rainy days. It's a gorgeous hand-drawn minimal-CGI movie. The animation is Akira-like. Makes you realize Miyazaki isn't the only one who can churn out awesome animated movies.

Law and Order: SVU and Chicago Fire and Chicago PD three-part crossover - 5/10
Man it was weak. Plots within an over-arching plot where it just seemed like the writers got bored of it at the end and just ended it to please the viewers.

Saw Avengers: Age of Ultron today and I will give it a 8 of 10.

I liked the original one better but this was still a solid film and since technically it starts tomorrow even though every movie theater had showings for today it's spoiler time.

I was kinda of disappointed with how weak the "main" Ultron seemed even in his upgraded version nearer the end.

If I recall from the comics his main form was usually powerful and had self healing that this one never had and even Captain America held his own against it for awhile.

I was expecting Ultron to take over Veronica as in the comics he usually takes over technology like that even if he couldn't get access to the missile codes and use veronica to do something to wipe out humanity.

Also the mind gem being inside the staff seemed a bit odd as Thanos is on the hunt for them and giving one away seemed wrong.

And finally I was sad that Pepper was not in the movie other then a few mentions such as when Tony and Thor were comparing girlfriends.

Otherwise it had some great moments such as when the group was hanging around trying to lift Thor's hammer and the look on his face when Captain America went to try where he was nervous that Capt might had been able to pick it up.

Or when Ultron was flying the Jet and Hulk jumped inside and we get the "puny god" feeling all over again.

Plus with the mention of Wakanda / vibranium I wonder if they are going to be bringing Black Panther sometime soon

Also there was no special clip after all the credits, only the main initial ones, so don't bother sticking around.

I think I'd go with a 7.5/10.

Do you think Quicksilver is actually dead? They didn't show him during the scene at the end when all the Avengers (to say the word that they cut out for some reason) assembled. I was actually expecting Iron Man and Captain America to have a bit of beef at the end of the movie, which would lead into Civil War, but that doesn't really seem to be the case. I also wonder what will Hulk "banishing" himself lead to.

I get the feeling that you don't keep up with the comic book news much. They've already announced the future movies, and
yes, there's a Black Panther movie coming and they've already cast him. He will also be in Captain America: Civil War, which has begun filming in Atlanta.

Also there was no special clip after all the credits, only the main initial ones, so don't bother sticking around.

Yeah, I didn't wait because Joss admitted a few weeks ago that there was only a scene after the "fancy credits".

I stopped reading any comics really well before the civil war and I have not looked into it so as not to spoil for the movies so figure me clueless about anything dealing with that and I mostly remember the wakanda thing from the avengers cartoon they had a bit ago dealing with him and the mines.

I do believe they killed off quicksilver because of how the scarlet witch acted when she felt him die.

Well, I can tell you that
it doesn't look like the Civil War movie will have that much to do with the comic. It was a major cross-over event, and the major catalyst was a group of mutants. I figured that they would use The Hulk going on a rampage, but that seems a bit awkward since he's on the lam. Also, I'd be glad if I never read Civil War. That crossover event was pretty much the reason I stopped reading Marvel comics.

I do believe they killed off quicksilver because of how the scarlet witch acted when she felt him die.

I get that part, but what point does that have to the story? In my opinion, Marvel's greatest flaw when it comes to their movies are their poor methods at motivating characters. For example, when they're on the Final Fantasy VI rip-off floating continent, Hawkeye gives Scarlet Witch a pep talk. It would have been a bit more meaningful if it was the death of her brother that pushed her over the edge rather than Hawkeye, the family man, giving her the proverbial pat on the head. Sure, she gets all angsty when he dies and takes out a few Ultron drones in a big psi wave, but that's it.

EDIT:

Thinking about it... I wonder if
killing Quicksilver was Joss's equivalent of (SERENITY SPOILER -- separate tag)
killing Wash at the end of Serenity. He said he did that to make people believe that the heroes really were in peril as we're used to them scraping by. Quicksilver, you really were a leaf on the wind!

This thread is for movie recommendations, so you'd use spoilers anyway. A movie discussion thread for a particular movie is where you might stop using them after the release date.

The first one was popular. I don't think people cared about the sequels as much. And remember the target audience. Teenagers.

Age of Ultron ....... I'm taking my 10 year old son .... I don't mind him hearing words he already knows. But I have an 8 year old daughter that kinda wants to see it but I feel weird taking her into the theater as a second grader. I think she can handle it. Second graders don't know the swear words as much and don't use them socially with friends. Fourth graders though ...... some do.

Reese is good here, really good, even if i wasn't the biggest fan of the story/writing.

Loved this movie. Reese did an amazing job. Even noticed her legs developing into hiker's legs as the movie progressed. The fact that she didn't win an Oscar is criminal-and even moreso for Laura Dern, who did the role of a lifetime as her mother.

Even the extras were worth watching. Reese's character is a little girl was played by the daughter of real person subject of the movie.

I thought the editing was amazing in this movie. Very well done.

Don't worry as they have the language discussion in the movie so people don't use bad words.

The Equalizer 4/10
Putting Denzel Washington in a movie this bad, this slow, and this bad is just unnatural. Plot was cliched, dialog stunk like a butt's butt, editing sucked, and had I been subject to one more "dramatic" shot of a lamp or other accessory things would not have gone well.

Interstellar 5/10
Ditto with Matthew McConaughey and, well, pretty much the entire cast in this movie. Can't help but believe the science advisor attended college on a football scholarship and the writers for beer pong.

I didn't think Interstellar was all that but the movie is known for being fairly scientifically accurate. A Cal Tech Theoretical Physicist was their science advisor for the movie.

Perhaps they should have gone with a non-theoretical physicist, or addressed such glaring science issues as
a planet circling a gigantic black hole at .99C still has an atmosphere and water, or why launching a Ranger requires a ginormous rocket on Earth but merely internal fuel on a planet where gravity is four times higher, or why robotic probes (cheap and already designed) weren't used to observe the planets, or why one constructs a rotating station for artificial gravity yet apparently still has gravity if one stops the rotation to look at something, or why future humans would construct a huge black hole with cryptic info rather than simply figuring out how to save the planet.

Horrid movie.

Sin City- 10/10
Wow one of the most amazing movie experiences ever. Simply superb.
Crash - 9/10
Hmm it received best picture Academy award. It was a great film though.
Noah 5/10
Reading all the reviews on Netflix from religious people is more entertaining than the movie. If you can get past that it isn't really a Bible movie and can watch it as straight up fantasy it is well ok. Some of the CGI is weak and once the flood actually happens it drags but it does have it's neat parts. Looks like it is on both Netflix and Amazon streaming.

I loved Noah.
Got to disagree with Fury.
9/10
Perhaps best WWII movie since SPR.
I didn't feel Fury was that great. I'd give it a 7/10. Inglorious Basterds was much better.
