Completely disagree about Monsters. It was a love story and the aliens played a very little back story to it. It was boring and really went nowhere. Cloverfield was basically a Godzilla movie.

But a lot better than any Godzilla in a long time IMHO.

The new one seems pretty unrelated, but I want to see it. Eventually.

Juno - 6/10 - It was okay. I mainly watched it for Ellen Page and had never seen it before. I found the dialogue irritating and unnatural... She's supposed to be precocious, witty, and sarcastic, but I didn't see any of that. I just saw someone with a stick up her ass and very artificial. Looked like her "wit" was on 24/7 even in crisis situations and breakdowns. Sarcastic people, in real-life, are generally in character and break character often, especially when emotional. See Emma Stone in Easy A and Ellen Muth in Dead Like Me for well done witty/sarcastic types.

How the hell did this get an Oscar...

I liked it myself, it did not get best picture.

Not sure what you're going off about really, have disagreed with things like Spotlight lately.

i feel exactly the same way.

10 cloverfield seems decent; the kind of psychological horror that The Twilight Zone used to do. John Goodman has ups and downs (he'll take any role that pays), but the trailer seems one of the good ones.

still, haven't seen star wars or deadpool yet ... damn nightshifts ..

It got Best Original Screenplay.

I googled it and seems like more than a few people have the same complaints. Looks like a love it or hate it movie. The dialogue just felt very unnatural to me, beyond how far I could suspend belief.

Was season 2 any good? 1 ended pretty well.
I tend to binge watch anime since I only watch dubs for the most part. So generally, the whole series will be dubbed. It's unusual for anime to go beyond 2 seasons. At least that's what I've seen when searching randomly on anime review sites.

The point is that I don't always notice differences between seasons. However sometimes there is a noticeable change which probably coincides with the season change and I noticed this with PsychPass.

I don't recall exactly what the issue was with the second season. I think they needed to expand the story so like a lot of anime, they went more extreme with powers, abilities and opponents. And I don't think it really worked very well. It was still interesting and fun but you had to make more of an effort to ignore certain things.

Josie and the Pussycats (2001) - 7.5/10

Surprisingly good lighthearted popcorn flick, and a bit of a time capsule. There's not really anything deep here, but it takes bits of truth, merged with black helicopter madness, the general pop culture and advertising silliness of pop acts, and works it all together pretty well, taking some liberties with the 4th wall along the way.

If you liked that, check out Jem and the Holograms!

But, it's got Tara Reid's best performance ever!
As a one-dimensional brainless bimbo caricature.
If they had put any effort into trying to make it something akin to good movie, I would have hated watching it, I'm sure. But, it was too silly to hate, IMO.

Which reminds me, I've been meaning to watch Zombie Strippers...

Wife, middle child I and I saw Cloverfield yesterday. Son and I liked it, wife didn't like the ending. I thought it was good an suspenseful throughout, couple of scare moments. Enjoyed it.

Next up is Allegiant. Oldest wants to watch it, and I do just to finish the series. Lost interest but will see it just to see how it ends.

10 Cloverfield Lane - 5/10 - I don't know why people are loving this so much. It was interesting but did not meet my expectations.

This movie isn't actually that bad. Though it probably helps I could stare and Rachael Leigh Cook for 2 hours smacking up a kitchen as if it was my brain on heroin.

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon 2 - 4/10. Completely loses the feel of the first one, they couldn't afford any decent actors from the first besides the girl, and as a kung fu movie is meh.

And, there was a distinct lack of bras in her wardrobe, for this movie...

Deadpool - 8/10
Expecting more out of this like Blind Al to be wittier and with more parts but oh well. Was pretty dam funny
overall. Didn't really explain certain things like
if Francis couldn't regenerate from a bullet to the brain, then what about Deadpool? I doubt he'd be as reckless as he was against guns if that was the case. Then again, he took a dagger to the scalp so was confused. Why would a dagger to the brain be different than a bullet?

If I understood correctly
Francis couldn't regenerate at all.

everest - 7/10 - was alright, nothing special. was neat that it was a true story though, i didn't know that prior to watching it. it had some great sound though.

the intern - 6/10 - was an okay movie, wasn't really funny, but it had a happy/fun vibe to it. it's just as predictable as expected though, with a lot of forced unrealistic dialog.

Legend: 8/10. Most people have heard the story of the Kray twins, but this focuses on the differences between the twins more than anything and it's a good watch.

My Neighbor Totoro - ??/10 and 11ty billion/10

This is one of those Japanese anime "masterpieces" from Studio Ghibli. They are showing a bunch Hayao Miyazaki's movies at a local art-house over the next month or so and my daughter (12) is in love with his work (as are apparently a billion other people)

I dunno... I just didn't get it. It was very cute in some scenes, and funny in others, but the whole theater (sold out) was laughing at parts I was scratching my head at. I mean I get and can appreciate where people would love it, but it's just not my type of thing. And the end had me like "Uhhh what_the_hell??!" I can see where the 93% RT rating comes from, but just not my cup of tea I guess.

I give it a rating of ??/10 because I was confused. I will give it an additional 11ty billion/10 rating to watch my daughter be so happy and entertained.

Next week is "Spirited Away"...

I re-watched Cloverfield on the weekend. I'd probably give it a 7/10; was pretty fun and even though I still did not really care about the main relationship, I enjoyed everything else. Totally forgot Lizzy Caplan was in it; she is awesome, so automatic bump up for her.

I'm also five or six episodes into Mr. Robot. Really digging it, though I could have done without the whole drug addiction thing, it just made for a really shitty withdrawal episode. Everything else is cool though. I've had a theory about what is going on since the first episode and I kind of hope it does not end up going that way, but we'll see.
