I haven't seen it. Do you think the experience of seeing it would suffer watching it on a 60" screen with a middling sound system vs. the glory and majesty of a theater?

I wouldn't think so. I mean, sure the scenery is nice, but all the sound system is going to get you is a lot of heavy breathing.

I wasn't such a fan -- I'm not saying it's a bad movie, it told a good story. But I'll never watch it again.

I think it makes a difference but it's an individual thing as to how much of course. If you have the chance to see in the theater, I would.

The panorama scenes don't have the same impact on a small screen. And with the bear scene for example, you can almost feel what's happening. You might be able to get the same experience on a smaller screen but it depends on the extent to which you let yourself get absorbed into the story rather than keeping some critical distance.

Also, in the opening scene, I'm not sure how well an htpc sound system will be able to recreate the sound of whizzing bullets and arrows. That's just one example though.

I think it would be enjoyable either way. Giant screen helps, but I enjoyed the story even more than the visuals.

the revenant - 9/10 - i liked this movie a lot. one of the best cinematography i've ever seen in a movie. i just loved the overall environment of the movie. i think tom hardy killed his role. i would have given it 10/10 if it weren't for some unrealistic things happening but that didn't detract from the movie at all imo.

8/10 for me; great cinematography and Leo did a killer job, but overall I felt it didn't reach the same heights as "Birdman".

Watched Possession (1981), with Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill. It was damn good, really think I need to re watch it though, as it's highly metaphorical and impossible to take in all at once. It's one of those movies that is best seen without knowing anything going in though, so just rent it somewhere. It's bound to get some sort of reaction from you.

:Edit: Make sure it's the 2 hour version, as there are a couple of significantly shorter cuts that were apparently disastrous attempts at repurposing the footage.

I see Craig Ferguson as a man supremely comfortable in his own skin. He's famous for getting a broad swath of famous hot chicks to open up and melt under his easy, "I don't take any of this too seriously" charm.

Other late night talk show hosts rightly try to go for this, too, but he's the master, a genuine natural.

Of course he's comfortable: former addict, attempted suicide, cleaned himself up, has lived in at least 3 countries (Scotland, France, U.S. of A.), came from pretty much nothing to being pretty successful. He's seen it all.

Fallon and Seth Meyers were on SNL...?

I recently watched Lemmy on Netflix. It's a 2 hour documentary about Lemmy Kilmister who is the former front man from Motorhead. The movie is interesting because Lemmy was a rather unique individual and he didn't give a damn what others thought about him. I was most surprised by where he lived, the way he lived his hobbies and hoarding.

Watched it a few years back -- Lemmy was one of a kind. Excellent documentary on an awesome person.

it has some REALLY nice visuals and the sound track was pretty top notch.

i did not think the movie was too slow at all either. i thought the pacing was perfect. didn't feel long at all either. it doesn't have as much action though as the trailer made it look like it would.

i haven't watched the extras on the bluray yet, but it looks like there is only 1 extra that is like a 45 minute "documentary". i really hope it goes into how the fuck they did the bear scene. that scene was incredible and the whole time i was just thinking "how the FUCK did they do this?".

i also found myself grabbing my chair during that scene. i didn't realize i was doing that until after the scene was over. very intense and all up in your face like you said.

No, not at all. I think it was a good-great movie, but nothing terribly compelling...in the sense that I came out wandering "why?" or "OK, didn't really learn anything, wasn't challenged by anything, I've seen survival before, but OK...."

It was exceedingly competent at every level, but it just left me wondering how or why I should recommend it to anyone.

Kung Fu Panda 3 [8/10]: The entire trilogy is great- it was getting real cliché by third time around, but they still managed to pull it off with plenty of jokes that are actually funny (unlike blatant pop humor seen in Deadpool), and Po's character stayed true to the end.

There has been lots of lame animation films lately. KFP3 is not one of them. As a matter of fact, this trilogy rivals Toy Story trilogy in quality.

Go see it!

Best Christmas movie in a very long time. Great practical effects. Takes a stupid idea seriously in a very 80s Gremlins style.

Spectre 4/10

Wow what a stinker. Such a huge waste of so many things in this movie and a bad ending.

Have an awesome car? Use it literally once with a horrible car chase scene which Bond movies have always been known for. Have Monica Bellucci? Use her for less then 5min. Have a big bad enemy Batista? Kill him off waaay too easily and too soon

I know people didn't like this movie but wow this is the worst Craig Bond movie. Even Christoph Waltz sucked as the main villain.

Heart of a Dog 9/10

Just came out on HBO this week. I would highly recommend it to those that like Laurie Anderson.

I played a couple of tracks off the CD on my radio show couple days ago. It's Laurie Anderson, she still has that presence.

Maybe I have a weakness for Bond movies. I cut my teeth of Connery. I thought Spectre was not too bad, to understate the case. Perfect it isn't, but the mistakes were fairly trivial, easily corrected, they just didn't. However, it was ambitious, they took you all over the planet and didn't do it in a Hollywood studio, they went to the actual locations. The opening 5 minutes was worth the price of admission (my admission: I paid nothing, I borrowed it from the library, however I did not feel I wasted my time).

And I kind of liked the ending.

I'll agree with you, 7.5/10 for me. I've come to really appreciate the latest round of Bond/Mission Impossible films - the production value is top notch and the plot is generally sufficient for the type of movies that they are trying to be.
