you know what my friend said? he said, "hey, you know what you would enjoy watching?
Risen!"

ok, so i am not the best person to review this title; i happen to be very picky about my Romans
and i have very short patience for christian stuff. But i will try to be objective ,, when i can.
It is the story of the resurrection of christ, pretty much identical to the film The Robe
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Robe_(film) where a roman soldier witnesses the resurrection and becomes a believer.
First off, it's really, really hard to pull off casting romans properly and this film doesn't do well in this regard. The blue eyed, blonde actors look and act out of place, this might not make it unwatchable to you, but it's pretty bad to me.
The "historical accuracy" is firmly on the meh side, there aren't any obvious abominations like The Gladiator had, but it's clear that the producers had no interest in displaying how awesome the Romans were.
Production-wise, it's not as rich as Gladiator, but it makes an effort to be "gritty and realistic", which i would like, were it not for the FUCKING HORRENDOUS beige color that the entire film is coated in.
note the color palette which rivals the Revenant for "How Many Colors Can You Make The Same 2016" prize.
As for the plot / acting / direction, meh, i'm sure they tried, but the film really lacks punhc, something strong and interesting to focus on.
So, for my vote, i would give Risen a solid
5/10. For someone who bats for the other team, 7/10 would be appropriate. Even if you are into this Jesus stuff, you'll still have to deal with the bad photography and lack of ooomph.
