The Infiltrator -- 7.5/10 -- Decently well done. The personal trust of the Benjamen Bratt character seemed out of place in the mileux. My buddy loved it, though.
Our Kind of Traitor -- 5/10 -- I expected it to be much better. It had a Tyrant level plot, imho. That's not a compliment, if you need to know.
Kevin Costner action-spy film with much star cast and classic hollywood tropes.
Out of the gate, putting Kevin Costner - whom i suspect was a driving force behind this production - in this role is the proverbial shot in the foot; there is just no way anyone is going to see him as anything but the one, same character he plays in every film.
I'm really enjoying this season. Four episodes so far, and, so far, less blood, fewer broken legs, and a little bit less of every single character in the show being a complete shitbag.
I watch it mainly for the imaginative ways they cover things up. Sure, most of the time it's just plain old bribery or black mail, but sometimes they come up with something pretty cool - like this season with the cop in the hotel room. Genius. There were some plot holes, but hey . . . . still not bad.
Last season was getting on my nerves with some of the characters. The kids were a couple of whiny little bitches and the father so predictably screwed everything up. He's still a fuckup but much more tolerable.
episodes 6-10 4/10
it got stupider.
especially after the bad guy is revealed. such a let down.
and why the hell is
a billionaire
working for the bad guy?!
also, they switched from trying to kill the star to making him commit suicide via blackmail to throw off suspicion.
then they capture him and throw him in a room with another guy. that guy's there to
take the fall because no one is going to believe he committed suicide.
so why bother even trying?! just murder him outright. sheesh.
btw- is it me or was the acting of that Asian chick is really really bad?
such great premise.
but I have more desire to see season 2 of this show then Jessica Jones.
QT knows how to write some decent dialogue and characters. The only thing I disliked about this film was the exploding brains type gore: It's appropriate for some types of film, say Inglourious Basterds [sic], or in Kill Bill it was meant to be a nod to crappy effects in kung-fu movies, but here I thought it was pointless and cheapened the action. It's worth watching Reservoir Dogs again because someone who is all bloody ought to be a shocking sight, and in that film (RD) it achieves that, but exploding brains et al really doesn't, it just makes me think of pointless gore in say the first 'Total Recall' film from the eighties or whenever.
last month i liked: Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans Der letzte Mann (The Last Laugh) Faust Nosferatu Umberto D Bicycle Thieves La Strada Nights of Cabiria Mouchette
to be honest, the first film is incredibly well made as the combined cost of all three films was $22M (they made $280M at the box office).
also, it's obvious that you need a lot of suspension-of-disbelief to watch this, but all in all they were pretty decent.

ok man, that's it, you just went over your allowance of divisive - you can no longer use that word. you gon' have to type out "half the people like it and half the people dislike it" every time.
but really, the people who liked QT for his visual style will love H8, while the people who loved QT for his storytelling will dislike it.
Watched Gone Girl for the second time 8/10. The film is great and would of been a 10/10 but the ending is just not thought out well enough. There are just too many big holes in the story at the end. It could of been an all time classic.
Having been super impressed with Dallas Buyer's Club I decided to watch something else by him. He also did Wild, which I liked a lot. So, I checked this out from the library and slipped it in last night (had no stomach for any more from the GOP convention, couldn't watch without FF staccato).
I'm ~47 minutes into this ~2 hour movie and start to feel sick. It's like an asthma attack (I don't have asthma, but do have allergies, I think). I hit stop and crash.
I dream about (or think about while trying to sleep) looking up this movie because I was truly feeling lost. I speak no French, was watching with subtitles. Truly, the cinematic values of this are tremendous, but the story lines had me utterly confused and it was just getting worse. I figured I better look up the plot or it was just going to get worse for me.
Late in my sleep I had a dream about being in a car with some friends and we have a bad car accident. I get up and look up the movie in Wikipedia and find out that indeed there are two as yet unrelated story lines being developed and that they come together in a fatal car crash!!! I'm thinking I got premonitions of the crash in the movie, the director was setting us up for it. That doesn't say much for the director on this, but I figure I will watch the rest.
The (very) basic plot isn't anything special, but QT's talent of writing interesting characters and dialogue (which IMO defines "QT's style"), coupled with his directing skill, is what makes this film special IMO.
I wouldn't say it's near being in my list of favourite movies, but I definitely enjoyed it.
One thing I find a bit odd though is how - before seeing the film - a lot of people described this film as being regurgitated and recycled QT material with lots of self-referential content. It didn't strike me as that at all.

I simply could not bare to watch any more after about 10-15 minutes in Minnie's Haberdashery, or whatever they called it. I'd found nothing to like and a whole lot to detest.

Love love love this movie. Just watched it again not that long ago. I didn't really ever find it all that confusing. The look and the sound of the movie are both incredible!!

World of Warcraft - 5/10
Only watched it because I used to play WoW for years. It was ok but the animation wasn't the best and they should've used more of the spells in the game. Didn't love it but didn't hate it either.
This continues to be one of the best shows on TV/Netflix that few have seen. Once you get past the first couple of episodes of season 1 the show really takes off. It's unbelievable how an animated show can make you laugh one minute then cry the next. The cast is amazing from top to bottom. I'm really looking forward to season 3.
I tried watching the first episode and just couldn't finish. Maybe I need to give it more time to grow, but there's just other things I'd rather get caught up on.
I keep reading about this show being so great but I also tried watching the first episode, twice, and couldn't finish it. It was so awful and unfunny but maybe I need to watch a few episodes? Can anyone else comment

I watched the first two seasons a couple months back. I thought it did get better later and I ended up enjoying it quite a bit, though I would never say it was amazing. Really loved Paul F. Tompkins' character on it; very funny. I also really love the opening credits. I'd probably give the first two seasons a 7/10.
Keep in mind I was in the hospital and on a lot of drugs while I watched it though, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

haha, not exactly a shining endorsement. but I have a list of literally 20 other shows I need to watch/catch up on, so I guess I should stick with those
