The Lego Movie (2014) - 3 out of 10 at best

WTF did I just watch? WhyTF does it have a >7.5 rating on IMDB? Why does everyone else I know seem to like it? It made me smirk several times and that was it. It's basically a product placement movie from beginning to end. The script was really really bland and uncreative. I literally have nothing good to say about this film, it's one of those "that's a couple of hours of my life I would like back" jobs.

i liked the lego movie very much for 20 minutes, then i was full. i would prefer if next time they do not try to cram 7 full feature films into 100 minutes.

everything was awesome.

I thought it was pretty awesome, but yeah--a bit too long. The joke wore off, maybe.

I didn't think it was bland and uncreative--I thought it was exactly creative and unique. The idea being that their entire lego world was created by the discarded pieces of junk that the young kid leaves behind within the world that he created. Their reality is entirely couched in his childish creativity and, of course, grumpy boring dad with his sterile and useless adult version of "play."

It reminded me of how I used to play with my legos and action figures at that age.

i think it was too much shit crammed into one film. i honestly had to turn it off when he finds the "love interest" because my brain was full. maybe if i had ADD i would have liked it more.

I saw that coming from a mile off, the fact that the
top was glued to the main character's back made it clear that there was a sufficient clue. Most of the film I was thinking "why is putting the top back on the glue going to make anything explode?", then came the explanation, and my reaction... "oh."
.

The only thing that I would class as a nice touch was
antagonist lego character having really long legs, because that's how the father is perceived by the son (height difference)
.

Bought one of these for $650 last weekend when the old 47" died.

Not the latest and greatest, but have been tweaking it and have to say The Hateful Eight when dynamic is on and crystal clear, makes it much better.

Still tweaking it in but I'm very happy with it for a side extended monitor and still messing with the wireless options etc.

Haven't even played with the Roku Premium we picked up yet, the wife has been nagging me a little about that, but the built in WiFI is pretty nice and have only messed with that a slight bit.

It looks better than the pic, pardon my low res camera.

I got the 55" 6300 too recently, just before Christmas, on a sale from Best Buy. Overall I like it a lot though I don't like the "dimming" that happens on scenes without much light. It might just be a normal thing for these type of TVs but I really notice it and it's weird to me.

You need to turn off the "Eco Dimming" for it. Also Rtings has some calibration settings to make it the picture much better without the need for professional calibration.

I thought I did turn it off and it still happened but I could be mistaken. Thanks for the link too; I'll check it out!

EDIT: Mine's the 6270 actually now that I realize it, but I think the only difference is the remote (mine's non-Smart remote).

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter
5/10

I've watched every Resident Evil movie (2002, 2004, 2007, 2010, 2012).
they've gotten dumber and less coherent as time went by.
5/10 is generous, and I'm a fan.

Claire is back but what happened to Jill Valentine?

i watched Basic (2003) - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0264395/reference

massive cast, you are warned.

so, Samuel L Jackson is a drill sargent and a major A-hole. He's out with the troops when he gets "accidentally murdered".

the guy who killed him is brought in, and the head honcho of the base, Tim Daly (the guy from Madame Secretary), calls in Connie Nielsen and John Travolta (arguably the lead of the film) to get him to talk about why he killed the sarge.
As they talk to the guy, it comes out that he might not have killed him. The rest of the squad set him up, and they are some shady-ass people.

Travolta-San investigates, Giovanni Ribisi dies, and the film does a Rashomon, where each character tells the same story from a different point of view.
(also, every minor character is` someone you've seen before, from some TV shows, commercials, or other minor films - these guys don't understand what "supporting actor" means)

Now, up to this point, i liked the film very much; i thought it was well shot, well directed, John Travolta has this thing where in some films he is awesome, in some he is garbage. Fortunately he does quite well in Basic.
Anyway, the film does a mindfloob where (inception!!) things aren't what they seem .. which was a bit forced, and frankly, unnecessary. And then the film ends.
I SAID THE FILM ENDS.
THERE IS NO "SECOND INCEPTION" WHICH MAKES BOTH THE THING YOU SEEN BE NOT REAL, AND THE REAL REAL ALSO BE NOT REAL.
just turn it off 5 minutes before the end.

The critics ripped a new bunghole to Basic because the last, add-on scene is so bad and senseless that it ruins everything else. And worse, if you were to remove it entirely from the film, you would still have a fully functional plot.

So do yourself a favour and ignore the last bit. Because without that aberration, Basic is a solid 7/10 film.

Warcraft - 3/10 total snoozefest, so boring, felt too long, sets and props just looked ridiculously fake

The Accountant 6/10 - Ben Affleck wanted his own "Borne" style movie and he got it. Too bad he's a little too old to pull it off. Predictable story line. My wife got bored quickly and I wan't too far behind her but finished it out.

Arrival 6/10 - I have to say I just didn't "get it". I was waiting for this movie to come out, I really liked the previews, but it just didn't click with me. I didn't understand the "twist" at all, it just made no sense really. Forest Whitaker = mush mouth the entire film.

I quite liked The Accountant. no, its not amazing or terribly unique, but thought the action was good and had an interesting back story.

i'm preparing myself for the interminable show appearances of the various cast members of Hacksaw Ridge. - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2119532/reference

mind you, it was an ok film. looks like the love interest is Teresa Palmer, but i was convinced she was Scarlet Johansson. Hugo Wavering was good in some parts (mainly the one scene with the tribunal), and a little too much Agent Smith in the rest of the film. Vince Vaughn does a reasonable job too, as do most of the supporting characters, but none really stand out, so much so that when they start getting covered with dirt, blood and mud, i can't tell who is who. The lead, Peter Parker from spoodermon 2, is ok but plays an uninteresting character.

The action scenes were too over the top, and they stick out like a sore thumb in the midst of a film that tries for realism. Otherwise, the production was tip-top and some scenes were captivating.

To be honest, i mainly liked the recreation of the WW2 era, from the uniforms, to the gear, all going into minute detail. Otherwise, not a lot there to keep me interested. A generous vote of 7.5/10.

I'm kind of the same way, I still have not watched Afterlife even.

Probably will check it out later tonight just to catch up on the series, they have always been random popcorn flicks.

Mila is always fun to look at, like Kate in the the Underworlds.

Battle for Sevastopol (2015) - 8/10, this is a movie that reminds me a lot of Enemy at the gates, its about a woman sniper and her role in WWII, it goes back and forth between what happens during her service and how she copes with life after the war.

There is a really good version of it on Amazon prime members.

But dude, Roman is such a superb character! Man I wish the movie was only about him -- no other characters. It would be a masterpiece.
