161. Fargo
Today, it's closer to Home Alone and not a film i would watch again willingly...
Say what? Fargo is on the short list of films I
would watch again. 'Splain why you wouldn't and, for context, list 5-10 films that you would, pleeeeze.
162. No Country For Old Men
i genuinely do not know what this film is about.
Hearing loss. It's about hearing loss. In old men. Think about it . . . the high pitched twang of traditional country music.
Keep thinking about it.
Are you still thinking about it? Good! Now hand me the remote:
TV (Somewhat) Worth Watching:
The Chi 9/10 (Showtime) --
Extremely well done. I've seen the word "authentic" used and it certainly seems to fit. For all you suburban white folk, this show neither glorifies nor demonizes the many sad realities and constricted choices facing ordinary black folk just trying to get by in the inner city, and how they can end up with shite all over them just from having to swim through that environment.
I'll add 3 of the 6 reviews from imdb, which triangulate what anyone who hasn't ever stepped foot "in the hood" can expect. Collectively, they made me laugh. (Note: I was a P.I. who spent far more time than I should have in North Philly at 2am)
I'm from Chicago
hurtbeezy30 January 2018
This show portrays how Chicago really cam be even when you are booty in the streets. Things just go sideways, stories get crossed. Common was the perfect guy to be a part of this. One of the most realistic shows on TV right now. Ppl that don't rate this show 7 or higher is either hating because its great black show and/or Don't understand the realities of "the hood". Guys from the hood are probsbly not on imdb rating shows and writing reviews so I'll do it for them. GREAT SHOW LITERALLY
Vile
susanmarconi21 January 2018
Do we really need to hear the 10 year olds using gutter profane language, slinking through their elementary school hallways like a band of thugs using every manner of degenerate behaviour that was once at least reserved for hormonal teenagers? I don't care that you are trying to show the "real" deal about Chicago...it's just gross. It is in no way artistic or enlightening to portray children this way to try and get your point across about the identity of this city. Will not watch this trash. By the way...I love Chicago.
Character Ronnie
sdcurtis-2082028 January 2018
I will assume that the producer of the show has based the storyline from true life events... something similar to the HBO series The Wire. I would really like to see the actor that characterizes Ronnie get like a touch up on the beard. The hair on his face makes me nervous. I know its just a show, but I see older men with nice shaven beards and mustaches.Brush up on his character's appearance, I think it would really help. Thank you
^^^ Hey, everyone's got an opinion. I gave you mine: If you have access to Showtime I highly recommend you give this show a chance.
High Maintenance -- 8.5/10 -- (HBO) If you've never spent time in NYC, you may find it hard to believe some of the characters this weed delivery guy encounters. You may think they are over the top heightened for effect. I'm here to tell you they are not. This is a
very wry and wisely observed show.
I'll include this one imdb review for further exposition:
Wonderfully quirky, funny and engaging

A series of short stories on the lives of everyday people living in New York. All the stories have one character in common - a pot dealer known simply as "the guy".
Wonderfully quirky and engaging series of vignettes. A great mix of drama and comedy. The short stories, of which there are one or two each episode, suck you in with likable characters in interesting situations. From there it is a leisurely ride to a great punch- line.
Writer-director-creators (and husband and wife) Katja Blichfield and Ben Sinclair do a great job at keeping the stories simple, yet profound, and the characters relatable. Sinclair also stars as The Guy, and does so very well, coming across as an entrepreneurial version of The Dude in The Big Lebowski.
My favourite episode: S1 E3, where the dog falls in love with his walker. You actually feel you are seeing the world from the dog's eyes, and it's a wonderful experience. (Incidentally, the walker is played by Yael Stone, of Orange Is The New Black fame).
The Opposition with Jordan Klepper -- 7-10 (Comedy Central) Another acorn fallen from Jon Stewart's Daily Show tree, I held off on watching this because I thought Jordan Klepper was the weakest of that bunch. I was wrong. This show is strong and getting stronger, all the more remarkable because it's a (week day) daily, not a weekly. Give it a look, decide for yourself.
