Jack Reacher In terms of a movie 7/10. In terms of how much I liked it. 9/10

Fun movie with enough of every part to be intense and quick, but not depressing like the other movies I've watched recently. Makes me think I should grab the Mission Impossible films.
It was like Mission Impossible lite. Not that the MIs are super deep, but that had a lot of the same elements just without the spy team.

Is Jack Reacher streaming anywhere? I've been wanting to rewatch that movie for a while now.

The second one is so disappointing I couldn't bring myself to finish it.

Deadpool 2 - 9/10 - I liked this movie a lot more than I expected because I did not like the first one really. Thought the first one was WAY overhyped and did not come close to living up to it. But for some reason, part 2 grabbed me a bit more and I really enjoyed it.

Jack Ryan - 8/10 - only watched the pilot so far but I liked it and will be watching the remaining 7 episodes.

Inglourious Basterds (Tarantino, Brad Pitt 2009) 7.5/10

Watched for second time last night, first time in 2010. For me, it was hard to get it all without a whole lot of Subtitles, REW going on to pick up the English and German translations, which flashed so quick on the screen I couldn't pick up it all plus the visuals without rewatching, even pausing. It's flashy, it's visceral and it requires that you give up your sense of pure reason, verisimilitude to reality that is to say. It's almost like a fantasy you might have about the Nazis. This is one that might be better if you watch it a bunch of times, I'm thinking. It's certainly less realistic than Reservoir Dogs or Jackie Brown, even Pulp Fiction.

Just Watch is a website I sometimes use to find out if something is streaming somewhere.

Looks like Jack Reacher 1 is on FX Now (I guess FX's online streaming?) and Jack Reacher 2 is on Amazon, Hulu, and Epix.

Jack Reacher 2 has none of the charm of JR1.

I watched Carpenter's classic Beeg Troble in Leetl China

a film that by all accounts should not work, and yet it does. Classic fists, guns AND martial arts that enforces some tropes and reverses some others, it stars Kurt Plissken Russel as truck driver Jack Burton, who shifts with speedy ease between whiny incredulous bitch to hard talking toughguy and back and forth again, while on a quest to help save his friend's girlfriend from an undead chinese sorceror, proceeds to fall, stumble, and knock himself out repeatedly.

Is it action?
Is it comedy?

These questions will likely never be answered, but if you do decide to watch it
6.5/10 for normals
7.5/10 for film students

It's a silly film but everybody should watch it one time or three.

Just saw a fantastic, under the radar movie at our local neighborhood theater. Called "Leave No Trace", starring Ben Foster and directed by the director of Winter's Bone, which launched Jennifer Lawrence's career. About a homeless PTSD afflicted vet and his daughter. Doesnt sound exciting, and like something that has been done before, but a very moving story and great acting by Foster, and the new young actress that plays his daughter is great also. 9/10, cant recommend it too highly. Very welcome change of pace from the usual superhero movies and action packed spy thrillers.

Upgrade (2018)
Was expecting a terrible move - was entertained 7.5/10

I watched Upgrade too! I was mixed throughout the movie; the acting was awful but the premise was pretty good and the action was great, though those camera moves during the fight scenes were a bit too much. By the end I realized the story was pretty dumb. I'd give it a 7/10. Not something I'd really want to watch again with full attention, but maybe something to have on in the background.

Dances With Wolves

after all the shit i've been ingesting through my eyeballs, finally a film worthy of the name.

John Dunbar is an army man during the early years of the american frontier. Disillusioned with the army life, he gets sent to a remote outpost where he befriends a tribe of Lakota Sioux, and through this opportunity finds his true self.

How is it that Costner never managed to replicate this film? He sure tried, with Waterworld and The Postman having the same exact character .. but a much different result.

Obviously that is a rethorical question, as one can clearly see the staggering depth of preparation that went into this film.

The subject does not allow for much more than lazy camerawork and many broad shots, but the film makes up for it in writing and acting.

Ignore the historical accuracy problems and enjoy it for what it is.

8.5/10

Just finished Ozark season 2.

Wow, stuff is getting dark in season 2. Starting to remind me of Breaking Bad when Walter White starts going off the rails.
Not saying its Marty Byrde, but a lot of the characters are starting to lose their way.
I give it 8/10.

In spite of myself, I kind of liked Jack Reacher 1. #2 sucked and they strayed so far from the book it was like a totally different story.
THANKFULLY, they're going to replace Tom Cruise in the next Jack Reacher movies. Apparently fans from everywhere complained about casting a guy who's...5'6"? to play a character who's 6'5"...

Anyway, I watched Ghost in the Shell tonight. I was very disappointed. Totally ignoring ScarJo in the part of an Asian, it was just a bad movie. Maybe if I was an anime fan I'd have liked it more...but I doubt it.
I've tried a couple of times to watch her movie, "lUnder the Skin," just can't get interested in it. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1441395/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_23

I'd rather have a cool, suave character like Cruise play Reacher than some random giant who doesn't fit his personality. Honestly I think Cruise was more than good in #1.

Not being familiar with the books I thought Cruise was fine in the role (in the first movie).

If you're thinking a bigger guy who's more suave at the same time: maybe an actor like LOST-era Josh Holloway?

The Mummy, HBO, 4/10

What a hot mess this one was. Tom Cruise thought he was in Dazed and confused and acted that way all through. An action scene horror movie. Disjointed plot and scenes, poor acting and script. Sofia Boutella was the best thing about this flick.

Cant even say this one was even a fun ride, bring back Brendan Fraser please and no sequels with Tom and his talentless buddy.

The ... books? You nerds read books???

And you could cast ScarJo as Mutumbwa The Sodomizer and i would stil watch it. Hercules, Sherlock Holmes, Mao Tse Dong, there is no role that can't be made better by casting Scarlett Johansson.

They really need to make a Russ Meyer styled film inspired by the p&p RPG "Renegade Nuns On Wheels" starring Scarlett and The Rock (also playing a nun), directed by Michael Bay*, budget: $200M.
I would watch that so.frikking.hard.!

*the director that just wants to watch the world go BOOM

I wanted to see that movie, but usually go with my wife, and she was not interested at all. Got pretty bad reviews as well. I am sure 99% of the male posters will disagree with me, but Scarlett Johannson just makes me cringe every minute she is on the screen. She is undeniably beautiful, and has a great body, but just seems to be going through the motions and is so un-involved with the part she is playing.

Edit: reason I wanted to see the movie, was it seemed like an interesting premise.
