Hart of Dixie - 7/10 Pretty family oriented show about a doc moving to the south to find out about her family and meets a whacky cast of characters living in the small town. Entertaining, goofy, and each show pretty much has a lesson. I think there's 4 seasons and we're half way through the 3rd. It's one of those shows that my wife watches, and it's background noise for me while playing on my laptop but I still can pay attention. The girls on that show are pretty hot too.

btw, 1991 is also the year that Use Your Illusion came out ..

Only now it’s “allusion” with an “a.” So if you guys want to put an allusion in there somewhere, like Poe or something... Don’t do Poe, ’cause I’m doing Poe.

7.5/10 The Man in the High Castle

Just binged all 4 Seasons and enjoyed it quite a lot. It had a good flow, solid Writing for the first 95+%, good Characters, interesting Setting/Premise/Plot. Some of the major changes towards the End didn't make good sense to me and the End itself was very flawed IMO. I hope they don't try to extend this series as the Main Story point was sufficiently addressed and trying to milk it further will just devalue a quite good Series. Perhaps a Spinoff could be done though, but...

6/10 Fear the Walking Dead

Prior to the above I binge watched the first 4 Seasons which were available in my Region on Amazon. Some of the Writing in this Series really annoyed me. Characters often made Decisions that made no f'n sense or seemed like obvious setups for some future Plot Twist. The way certain Episodes told important Scenes(the Death of a particular Main Character(who I suspect isn't Dead and will return at some point))were especially poorly done using a Group Narration that felt like a Mid-Season Recap more than an actual Episode. Those Episodes just seemed disrespectful to the Story as a whole and really annoyed me. A couple Episodes had an awkward Initiating the Noob into the Cast kind of vibe to them. Overall though I really like the Premises and Plot of this Universe, so the occasional Meh Episode gets put behind me.

Season 2 of the 2019 reboot of The Twilight Zone. 4/10

I was less than impressed with season 1, maybe a 6 out of 10. Most of the season was dull, but the best 3 episodes were good enough to provide hope that they could turn it around for S2. Turns out that those 3 episodes are still the high water mark for the series, it backslid in every way. The two best episodes of the new season feel like mediocre Black Mirror episodes and the others were less eerie than the Halloween episodes of Full House. Nothing at all like the original Rod Serling show.

John Wick Chapter 3 - Parabellum 8/10

It's surprisingly entertaining given that all three movies are almost exactly the same. You could take any fight scene out of any one of the movies and stick it into one of the others and it wouldn't seem out of place. Most people would not even notice that it was different bad guys getting shot up. The choreography is so good and the scenes so well staged that you don't care about how braindead it all is. They have the formula for this type of movie down perfectly and are smart enough to not change it just to be different.

Just finished watching Mortal Engines, pretty much the closest movie ever done to something out of the Warhammer 40K universe I'd say. Visually very spectacular and quite unique, in part an orgy in victorianesque neo-gothic architecture and in part bits that are both quainter and more modern-looking all mixed in.

Storywise, it's the same re-hashed dreck you've seen in easily 150 action-adventure movies going back since the 1980s at least. The only novel thing in this movie I haven't seen before is the moving cities, and that doesn't make for a very deep story.

But seriously, is depth really the thing you look for in a movie like this? NO, I say, with quite a lot of emphasis. The story - such as it is - flows quite well, there's no overly long, dull, draggy 2nd act scenes that slows everything down, and the action scenes are well executed. Nothing mindbendingly spectacular about the fight sequences and the jumping-swinging-about bits, but overall competently executed, well put together and smartly and not too rapidly cut. Well, there was the boot knife, which I quite enjoyed. Good one, heh!

Hugo Weaving made a better bad guy here than as Red Skull. (Oops! Spoiler alert? Heh.) Not nearly as relentlessly menacing as Agent Smith perhaps, but then again, what could possibly be? Other actors were good enough too for an action movie, although I didn't recognize a single goddamn face (not even Stephen Lang, but then again he does play The Terminator here so how could I?), which just shows how utterly out of touch I am with the most recent generation of actors. Or maybe this movie is simply filled with unknowns.

...Like Star Wars, I could say. It's not a bad thing that you can't pin a dozen or more iconic roles to every actor in a movie.

Funny thing. One quiet, late scene in the movie had me almost wondering out loud if I was watching a computer animated 3D-rendered movie. The moody setting sun lighting was so soft and pink and pastel:y and otherwordly it made the actors look very much like almost-real CGI. rofl

Maybe in another decade or two.

A quite watchable 7/10 movie I'd say.

I'd give it a solid 9/10. Not often I find myself at 3AM, desperately wanting to watch the next episode, but knowing damn well I better go to bed. I was watching it as each season was released, and kept searching for the release date of the next season, and would put it on my calendar.

The only other's in that catagory (waiting eagerly for the next season) are "House of Cards", and "Designated Survivor". "Firefly" would have been if there had been more seasons, but alas...

Raising Arizona is the greatest film ever made.
Raising Arizona - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093822/

i wouldn't call it "the greatest movie ever", but i am glad i watched this. Throughout, i kept thinking, "can this really be nicolas cage?", back when he was a promising young actor who didn't suck.
Loved the big biker demon guy. The convicts were ok. I could have had more Holly Hunter and would not complain... i just looove that accent she does.

Story was .. ok. It's not easy for me to relate to someone who would want a baby, much less steal one. Cage's character was absolutely unique, though not one i really see myself in. The intro sequence has to be one of the best i've ever seen, but the plot veers off after that. It's .. not *that* interesting. The various weird characters do make it visually better, but i wouldn't compare it favourably to, say, some of Terry Gilliam's work.

I vote: 7.5/10 - good for a watch or two.

Favorite parts:
Birth from the earth prison break where the dialog was all screams.
Dream where the Lone Biker of the Apocalypse POV rides over tricycles, fountains, and right up a ladder while H.I. reacts in his sleep.
Francis Mcdormand's character influencing Ed to pile on H.I. while her kids terrorize him and he's obviously got bigger concerns for the moment.

The Old Guard - 8/10 - was a pretty solid Netflix movie. It looks like they are definitely planning a sequel for it based on how it ends.

Er ist wieder da (Look Who's Back) - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4176826/

a film about Hitler coming back.

There's a big puff of smoke, and bam! there's Hitler, in full military regalia, in central Berlin, 2014. He wanders around confused, trying to figure out what has happened. He's found by the locals who think him funny for dressing up like Hitler.
Eventually he's taken to be a method actor, and given a TV show.Unfortunately, he has way too much success, with half the people loving him because he's Hitler, and the other half loving him because he's not Hitler.

The entire film is in German, with subs (you should be able to see this on Netflix); the production quality is rather poor - think made-for-TV, but 20 years ago - but the dialogues keep it interesting. Oliver Masucci plays Hitler, and he absolutely nails the delivery. There's quite a few funny moments, including a parody of the famous "Hitler Bunker" scene from Downfall, but it's not a straightforward comedy, there's some pretty fucking serious moments too, in fact the film takes a rather dark turn towards the end. Obviously the subject matter is difficult to handle, but the film lets you make up your own mind.

7/10 - you may be strongly offended, or amused, or neither.

Repo Man:
11 / 10 for the green paint.
Also for skinny Miguel Sandoval.
never watched it. How would you say it compares, say, to Repo Men (2010) ?

Me, i also watched Clerks 2 - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0424345/

which was veeeery forgettable; i can hardly believe this is the same Kevin Smith who just a few years earlier directed Dogma, one of the most recommendable films ever made (8.5/10).
Boring plot seen a million times (cold feet guy has a crush on the hot girl), no sense of comedic timing, flat jokes, the only surprising thing (i had not seen this before) is that Rosario Dawson used to be HOT! when she was 27yo.

Would not really recommend, unless you are really starved for some Jay & SB jokes. 6/10

Warrior Nun (NetFlix): 6/10

Some interesting concepts, but a bit too teen-oriented to be really enjoyable. A bit too much cheese (or not enough - not sure.) Might watch a second season, but only if really bored.

Cursed (NetFlix): 7/10

I actually thought this was a pretty well-done series. Again, a bit much on the teen-romance and drama, but made-up with an entertaining world and characters. Certainly suffers some "white savior" syndrome. Some odd character motivations and plot-points, but not too bad. I may just be a sucker for Arthurian-stuff, though.

the reason why i love

Dogma - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120655/

is because here, in this film, everyone is at their best. Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Chris Rock, Alan Rickman, Salma Hayek, George Carlin, even Alanis Morrisette, not only is there a spectacular cast, but none have even done a better role. There is no one instance of any of these actors having a performance which is notably better than what the have in Dogma - and i am including Damon's Good Will and Bourne too. And that's one reason.

The story is classic, the chosen one on a mystical quest to prove their worthiness in a fight between good & evil, the sacrifice of the hero, and the resurrection via deus ex machina. You coulnd't write a more classical tragedy plot if you used ancient greek.

The comedy is not only excellent, but also unique to Smith's style, and while he's more realistic, down to earth in Clerks, it's a bit more surreal in Dogma. The Mooby's corporate room slaughter is a classic scene, man.

Smith uses the clever device of having two opposite sets of protagonists, Loki & Bartleby on one side, and Bethany & crew on the other, to break the monotony of linear storytelling.

The dialogue is excellent.

And, it's really an easy film to recommend. Very few people would not like, or not understand Dogma. It's a comedy, it's a religious spoof without being insulting, it's got good actors and Salma's massive knockers... what's not to like.

I vote 8.5/10 - it must be a push up bra. it must be.

Local Studio Movie Grill is renting entire theaters for dirt cheap with a "bring your own Bluray" plan, so we and another couple have been watching some classics with a few beers and several rows of social distancing.

Aliens: (Theater) 10/10
Personal fave. Just a a solid action flick from beginning to end. Aliens, marines, guns, flame-throwers, tension. Rocks on the big screen.

The Rock: (Theater) 8.5/10
Buddy's fave. I actually haven't seen this in a while. It holds up really well, I think. Took a call to tech support for the projectionist to get everything panned/zoomed to the right aspect, but it looked great (if a bit grainy.) Michael Bay used to be able to make decent movies.

Norsemen - Season 3

Not quite as good as the first season, but was still pretty good overall. Varg's origin story was a pretty funny way to kick of the new season.

so, they play it off of your own DVD ?

what was the audio like?

No, moran.

Every once in a while some classics get re-released.
Two years ago I saw Titanic in a new Imax release and the year before that was Terminator 2.
Good stuff.
