Clash of the Titans 2010. It’s an okay movie. Interesting to see the change in what is considered the ideal hero from 1981 to 2010, going from a pretty boy to a jar head. The gin were very well done. 7/10

Didn't actually rewatch the movie (think I saw it at the cinema, decades ago), but, on a whim, re-read the paperback book of "Where Eagles Dare" (that I think I got in a charity shop years ago). Just reminded me what a great movie that was (pretty much replayed in my head). Totally preposterous, of course, and I'm sure bearing absolutely no resemblance to anything that actually happened, or even could have happened, in WW2, but still a great movie.

Some interesting backstory to it, as well, judging from the trivia on IMDB. What a remarkable life Ingrid Pitt had.

9/10 - far better than the real WW2.

i watched The Banshees of Inisherin - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11813216/reference/

Which .. sadly, i did not like.

Review will have to go in spoilers because you may still want to see it.

The film is mostly Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell. You may not think much of Farrell but he does much better in serious films.
Before the film starts, Gleeson and Farrell are two friends on a remote island in Ireland, sometime during the 1920s.
As the film starts, Gleeson VERY abruptly decides that they are not friends anymore. Baffled, Farrell wants to understand why.
The why is that Gleeson fancies himself a poet, and Farrell is dumb.

.. and, well, that's it. No really that's it. The two clash, but it never changes anything. It doesn't even have the "the fool's heart was worth it" theme, Farrell's character is just dumb, and Gleeson isn't even "heading a calling", he's mostly just delusional.

I wanted to say that this reminds me of Hrútar, a similar tale of two unredeemable characters who clash, but that film has a far better script that this, at least Hrútar can make a point, while Banshees can't.

I'm sorry but, just no. You can't throw in a lady in a cloak cosplaying as Death from 7th Seal and call it art. You need a script, you need the fucking script !

I would honestly much rather watch the comedy The Guard, which has better dialogue, better characters, better interactions, a story that makes sense. Anything that Banshees may have, good acting, good cinematography, just does nothing when the script is completely aimless.

I would not recommend this. There are better Colin Farrell and/or Brandan Gleeson films to chose from, and regardless of the quality of acting, the weak script and the aimless dialogue completely kill it for me.

5/10 - Gleeson needs to reconsider his choice of agent.

Damn, you’re old. So you must have Turing.

I started university later than usual since I was an immigrant and Min of Education decided I had to do OAC first before going to university, but to take OAC (year 13) I had to do Eng 11 first, so 11, 12, OAC. To add salt to injury, U of Toronto decided I needed to take TOEFL as well. Here I was with a English OAC credit...

i tried to watch The Fabelmans but could not get into it at all. I guess if you are a young boy from a Jewish 1950s family, you would find this more interesting than i did.

Babylon 4/10

I walked out of the movie theater a bit confused and thinking I liked it but after thinking it over for a couple days I don’t think it’s all that good.

I found that the movie lacked focus. I get the general idea of what it was trying to portray but it gets lost in the shuffle. Scenes are needlessly long that bloat this movie to 3 hours. I think somewhere in the process of making what they thought would make critics want to discuss this movie they forgot to make an actual good movie.

It’s not terrible though, I certainly don’t regret watching it. It did manage to keep my attention for a while but I found I was checking the time time on my watch during the last hour or so. I could just chalk this up to a movie that is “not for me” but at the end of the day I would have a hard time recommending this to anyone.

Watched Titanic again, this time the Blu-ray, 6th time I have seen the 195 minute movie. Gets me every time. Cameron wrote and directed, won a ton of Oscars.

I think it's the soundtrack. It's pretty moving. And Celine Dion didn't originally want to do it. She had to be "convinced" to sing "My heart will go on". Imagine that.
I'd forgotten (it'd been 8 years since I last saw it), but that song is only over the end credits. Yes, I love it too and it was my introduction to Celine (who, last I heard, had a medical condition that interfered with her singing). But that song is just one great feature of this magnificent accomplishment. When they were assembling it, editing, etc. they didn't expect to turn a profit on the $200M expenditures (greatest ever at the time). It was the first film to profit over $1Billion. Titanic was a smash hit around the planet.

I am a nerd and so i watched Sorok Perviyy (The Forty-First) - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0049783/reference/

A COLOR (i know, right?) 1956 russian film that i found in full on YouTube:

Bunch of Red Army peasants attack glorious White Army ubermensch during 1920s russian civil war. They treacherously kill the White Army glorious aristocrats, but one survives. He is interrogated by the illiterate brutes and revealed to hold secret information.
The vile peasants hold him captive, and assign a vuluptuous, prosperours russian woman to guard him. She is not just a woman, she is a sniper with 40 confirmed kills.
As the barbaric traitors die at the hands of their own incompetence, the last two to survive are the woman and the aristocrat, poet, and gentleman Lieutenant Vadim Nikolayevich Govorkha, Jr.;
They land on a island (yeah yeah i know, desert, island, same thing) and they start a love story, with the exquisite upbringing of the heroic White Army official brings hitherto unknown joys to the indoctrinated Red Army traitor.
And, when they are about to be saved, because she's a stupid woman, she kills the man she loves.
Thus he becomes the titular 41th kill and she cry because she don't got no dick to suck on no mo'.

5/10 would not watch again.

DiCaprio had to be convinced to play Jack Dawson. Cameron approached several others beforehand. They tried Tom Cruise but he was too expensive, IIRC. McConaughey was busy with other projects. I'm sure that DiCaprio was a way better idea than Cruise for this.

Kate Winslett was not their first idea for Rose. But she wanted the part really badly. For a while she would send a rose to Cameron every day with a note saying "I am your Rose!"

She loves getting naked, based on her other movies. She is oblivious to the word "shame" or "embarrassment".

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7983894/reference/ <<< Good movie but her sex scene is WTF!

Mare of East Town <<< I loved her acting.

i absolutely do not believe AT ALL this.

Mind you, i'm not saying that i dont believe YOU, im saying i dont believe Cameron. It's bullshit. It's pure utter bullshit. MAAAAAAybe Tom Cruise, but Leo was at the peak of being ateen heartthrob, and the rest of the film is 100% designed to be a teen heartthrob film.
IMHo Cameron just simply lied.

X-Files S11E07

If you have any interest in AI, this is a must see.

Don't go looking at other episodes in this or even other seasons for something similar. You will probably be disappointed. This particular episode is pretty unusual. Standalone and you don't need any prior knowledge of X-Files. Just a man and a woman having a bad night.
