uh. I would have called that character from JB as borderline outright ridiculous
I would say that is a caricature. It is an exaggeration but has a bit of truth to it. Having lived in the American South my whole life I've met those people. If you remember that he is supposed to be comic relief it is a bit more clear. His personality is not all that exaggerated, but his reactions are over the top for comedic effect.

Well, when they say it's strange, they mean it's strange. Very entertaining. Very colorful. But if for no other reason it's totally worth seeing just for the space alien scene. Everyone in the audience was cracking up. Star studded but the movie keeps the rotation of stars short and sweet. No one star getting too much screen time. I could have done without Tom Hanks, I've had my fill of Tom Hanks in film. Wish he'd just stick with producing and financing. No matter what's he's in he's always the same Tom Hanks, with a different hair style or maybe a beard tossed in.

Fun movie. People seem to enjoy it. Very strange story and character mix. The film is presented as a film about a play, or was it a play about a film? You'd have to just go see it and figure it out. If thats possible?

Extraction 2 on Netflix.

I enjoyed this movie. It was all action all the time. The camera was right in the middle of things but I wouldn't sit to close to the tv on this movie because of the camera shake. I might have to watch this one again before the year is up.

Did you happen to see the first one? Do I need to see 1 to know what's going on in 2?

Yes I watched the first one but it's been a while and I don't really remember much about it other than it's the same type of movie. There have been so many of these types of movies that I get them all mixed up.

lol, no. unless you need explaining why the good guy is punching bad dudes, you'll be fine.
I compare these type of films to the John Wick franchise. I've only seen the first two, but I'm sure that 3 & 4 continues from 1 and 2. I really need to see 3 & 4.

He will miss out a bit on why the hot combat chick cares so much about the protagonist. Other than that, I thought the action in the first was more frenetic. The second one has better scenery. Plot also sucks a bit. Sequels are rarely better than the original. Here, the first is a 7 while second is about 6.3 (Starts pretty slow coz our guy has to "recover" from the beating he took in the first.)

Fast X

I dunno...6/10? 5/10? The movies are always over-the-top, but this one felt like it was merged with Spy Kids lol. They had to swap directors in the beginning of the movie, so that's probably why the vibe felt different. However, I am ready for the inevitable conclusion...

Avatar 2 - Way of the Water

10/10

This movie is just incredible. I was a fan of the first one and this movie is basically more of the same with way more outstanding visuals. Yes the story is about as cookie cutter as you can get, and if you saw the first one, it is basically along those same lines, so nothing ground breaking and very pedestrian, but the whole package with the visuals and sound is what puts it over the top. As a huge fan of the ocean and snorkeling/SCUBA, the underwater scenes are just incredible. I loved all of the sea creatures they created and just the way the reefs and everything looked. Yes it had some silly stuff and plot holes, but from a pure entertainment standpoint, it made 3 hours go by like it was 90 minutes for me. I was never bored and honestly thought the whole last battle scene wasn't going to be the end and thought there was going to be more, because the time had gone by so fast.

I hadn't watched a movie at full blast in my home theater in a long time just because we have a 2 year old, but we put him to bed early so we could start this and blast it. And I think I overdid it a little bit as my ears hurt after and this morning I still feel the ringing a bit lol. It's almost like when I used to go clubbing until 4am then wake up still feeling it in my ears.

I saw this in a laser equipped theater, and was disappointed. I loved the 3D of the original film, and it was lacking in 2. I don't know if it was due to the laser projector or what.

Anyone who cares, Jeremy Renner is NOT dead.

However, he almost died.

From Wikipedia:

On January 1, 2023, Renner was hospitalized after an accident in which he suffered blunt chest trauma and breaking 30 bones after being hit and run over by his snowplow at home.[71][72][73]The snowplow was an extremely large snowcat weighing 14,330 pounds (6,500 kg).[74] Renner was flown by helicopter[75] to Renown Regional Medical Center (the region's only trauma center).[76] Renner underwent surgery and remained in the intensive care unit in critical condition.[72] By January 17, Renner was released from the hospital and had returned home to continue his recovery.[77] Doctors who treated him said that Renner's physicality and health likely helped him survive the accident, and added that ten weeks after the accident, Renner was beginning to regain enough strength to walk with a cane.[78]

My brother was saying how incredible the 3D was in IMAX when he saw it in the theater, especially the underwater scenes. He tried to get me to see it in the theater multiple times but I Just never had time.

I watched it at home in 2D though and thought the visuals were just incredible. By far the best "tech demo" for effects in a movie.

Young Justice Season 3 - Outsiders

The 'Young Justice' series differs from most superhero cartoons (in my experience) in that each season has its own plot and every episode is part of that plot, plus continuity with previous seasons. IMO it makes it somewhat more enjoyable/deeper than a plot that has to be fleshed out and wrapped up in ~20 minutes.

I liked how for example (from this season in particular) how they didn't make the mistake that when someone suddenly gets super-powers that they also suddenly know kung-fu / innately know how to use their powers with precision and finesse.

I enjoyed Batman TAS, Justice League, and Justice League Unlimited preceding Young Justice, it's very much in the same vein as JL and JLU. Mostly teen characters from YJ S1 have developed into young adults by this season (maybe S2, I can't remember, it's been a while), with younger generations joining the group.

If you're 'wokephobic' then you'll want to steer clear of this series. Season 3 in particular is also pretty topical (dated 2019). I've enjoyed the series so far.

Maybe it was the theater where you watched it. The 3D and dolby atmos audio is aweosme. Got the 3D bluray recently and the 3D is so good to watch in my 2017 LG 3D OLED.

Yeah I am not a fan of 3D just because my projector is active 3D and it makes everything dull colored. I can put it on dynamic mode to make it brighter, but then all of the colors are off still.

Watched Elemental with the kids yesterday. 7/10

Yes, it was formulaic and predictable. Yes, it was a bit heavy- handed with the commentary on the American immigrant life experience of the early 1900s. But it was also entertaining and the animation, especially the fire effect, was pretty good. Considering Pixar's recent stinkers this one is the best since Onward (2020) and perhaps the second best since Inside Out (2015). The only one I haven't seen in that span is Toy Story 4. Coco is probably the only contender and it depends on your view of that one. I liked the music but didn't much care for the story.

For me that would mean the ranking of "recent" Pixar films would be:
1. Inside Out
2. Onward
3. Elemental
4. Coco
...
Everything else (The Good Dinosaur, Finding Dory, Cars 3, Incredibles 2, Soul, Luca, Turning Red, Lightyear)

Netflix: The Night Agent
8/10
I noticed this because it had Amenedel from Lucifer in a supporting role. The plot was a little ludicrous at times, but overall very suspenseful and I thought the cast was excellent. I found myself rolling through episodes wanting more, so i guess that's a sign of a good show.
