I heard that Gateway was shipping out the cards tomorrow...

I kinda wondering how long this thread will get?

Well, first of all. I'm still holding out. I already have an x800 Pro. If GW tries to pull a fast one by shipping a Pro, Or upping the payment on the X800XT American Express will have LOADS of fun with them. Anyone paid by check or cash is just asking for trouble.

I guess no one cared for the Joke of the day. But, now that everyone is jumping on the 6800GT, Instead of printing shipping and tracking labels now Gateway is going to ask for more $$ and ship cancel all the XT orders and replace them with GT?

Hmmm, I heard they are getting a crap load of 6800 Ultras and sending out those instead of the XT!

Where does this end? Must be hundreds of 14 Year Olds that keep hearing things.

I almost can't wait till the next "I HEARD" line. But Safeway takes the cake... From Actually being in stock...Shipping...Being told they would be at his house tomorrow...Then his G/F tells him the cards will be there on his Birthday (sometime in August)...Then he states the 6800 sucks and he will hold out for this great deal because the x800XT is so much faster...Now he is buying a 6800... Hmmm, and tells GW to cancel his order... And he still hasn't changed his system specs... Sigh...

Damn dude? If I ever get an XT and if it comes with the free t-shirt I?ll mail it to you just for making the thread really funny if nothing else?

I'm still holding out for my PNY - Buy.com 6800 GT! I still think it kicks but and is the better card for 300 bucks!

-These words were straight from Gateway CSRs ... not just one, but 3

-This was a joke. My girlfriend was laughing at me because I was mad I had to wait so long. So she jokingly said that I might end up getting it for my birthday.

-Yea, this is one of those things that I can't really explain, you know? I underestimated the nVidia. Seeing as how I have never owned an ATI card ... only nVidia ... is somewhat of a mystery to me. I still wish this deal had worked though.

-I told GW to cancel my order a week or more ago actually. I talked to 2 or 3 CSRs that all told me I couldn't cancel, I'd have to refuse shipment. I must have been asking for it, as I paid by check. I finally was able to cancel it!

-Doing that right now. When I posted in FS/FT forum that I WTB: 6800 GT, a guy asked if I wanted to sell my BBA X800 XT PE. Hehe.

So back to my usual, I heard from a forum poster's cousin that the Gateway cards were actually shipping today, not tommorow.

My friend had two on order. He waited for weeks and his arrival date was 7/26/04. Today he called to see why it hasn't shipped if it was supposed to arrive on the 26th. They said that they were IN STOCK and it would ship out any day.

He called again and asked another lady the same question. She said she had to check with the accessories department. She put him on hold for a few minutes, and after she came back, she said that the product was DISCONTINUED and that his order was going to be automatically canceled.

This was just today. He bought two 6800 GT's from AccuPC.com instead.

Geez... I cancelled my Gateway order last week and I was in for $391 to the door. I didn't cancel because of Doom3 benchmarks or SM3 or money. I canceled because I'm sick of being in limbo for a near $400 purchase.

It's pretty sad that a company as large as Gateway hasn't issued a statement regarding this issue. If they know when the cards are going to arrive they should simply state it and if they don't they should state that as well and put the burden on the supplier (ATI). Instead this thread (and others from various sites) grows on and on with rumors.

Here's the simple solution... Cancel your order and let Gateway know this is not how to deal with a customer.

I've not gotten any e-mail updates on the shipping myself, originally pre-ordering the item on 3rd of June. And I have to make the effort to call them and see if they will be shipping it soon.

Called GW this morning. Guy was useless. He "seemed to remember" shipping some cards already, but throughout the rest of the conversation I don't really think he had a clue. He offered to connect me to the manager for more info and then suddenly realized that the MANAGER wasn't working today. Huh? Does anyone know if GW has shipped even one of these cards yet?

Nah, it's only been 7 weeks. The delay may be ATI's fault but it's Gateway that deserves the blame for not knowing what's going on.

Make that a .90... When I originally reviewed them I did their "accessory" store. Guess I should've done the main site instead. Oh well, as an accessory advertised on their main site I think both should get poor reviews.

I'm strongly considering a BFG 6800GT or Ultra now. I was leaning toward Nvidia until I thought I could get a X800XT for $391 shipped in early June. Now that I've cancelled I'm leaning back to Nvidia.

I guess at this point the only thing I would consider is doing the 6800 Ultra ... but then there is the dual slot/power requirement to contend with. That, and trying to get a similar deal on it like the Gateway deal for the XT. Nah, despite the D3 benches I'm going to stick tight and wait this out. At least that's the way I feel about things now...when D3 ships and my buds are playing it it's gonna suck.

The PNY, I just got, overclocks to Ultra speeds and better. I couldn't be happier. The eye candy in FarCry has to be seen to be appreciated. Just seeing the shadows and light on my weapon moving as the wind moves the trees overhead is just a taste.

Yeah my GT's doing 417/1190. The first thing I did when I received it was some minor modding. I cleaned off and replaced all the stock thermal pads with Arctic Silver V, but I did contact checks when I did this, and noticed that the skinny heatsink over the three PWM chips was making, effectively, zero contact. What I did was, I peeled off the two thin sheets of anticonductive plastic, then I used my rotary tool to grind down the raised portions on the underside of the sink, which, rather than prevent excessive screw-down pressure, completely raised the sink clear off the intended chips, until the sink made good contact. Finally I reinstalled this item without excessive pressure.

While I'm satisfied with the results, I was hoping to get at a little higher on the GPU; my memory is higher than average as far as GT owners go, so I'm quite happy with that part! Can't complain too much, overall; hopefully when I water cool the GPU, it will allow me a better o/c on that component.

EDIT: Of course I replaced the two pieces of anticonduction plastic after I ground the raised parts from the underside of the PWM sink. I'm not crazy!

Do you know of any aftermarket cooler besides water? I don't think the ver3 VGA Silencer fits the 6800 GT.

Arctic Cooling is releasing, in approximately 4-6 weeks, a whole new line of VGA Silencers for ATi as well as debuting an entire line of VGA Silencers for nVIDIA cards, including GF4, GFFX and GF6800 series cards; I can't imagine a better air cooling solution on the market. Not only do VGA Silencers do a splendid job of cooling the card itself, but it also exhausts the hot air right out of the case; good for everything in every way!

EDIT: The new VGA Silencers for ATi are called ATI Silencers and the nVIDIA pieces are called NV Silencers. the NV Silencer 4 series are for GF6800. NV Silencer 1 is for GF4, NV Silencer 2 is for GFFX5700 and NV Silencer 3 is for GFFX5900XT. ATI Silencer 2 is for 9600XT, ATI Silencer 3 is for 9800 Pro and ATI Silencer 4 is for you lucky X800 owners out there. My guess is the original VGA Silencer is now considered an ATI Silencer 1(?).

EDIT 2: Besides being nicer looking, they also have large plates to cool the video RAM; the original Silencers didn't do this. While not as important for the new GDDR3 cards, it's useful nonetheless for older cards, like with the NV Silencer 1 or the ATI Silencers 2 and 3.

Man, according to derek and others both companies are still planning on producing fall refreshes. How bad is that when you can't get you're spring line out before the fall ones are announced.

Okay, I have an update for those who have not received their ATI cards

Gateway gave a further date of August 8th for a possible next shipment to arrive.
Nothing is confirmed and i am getting sincerely pissed off.
