I can't believe you didn't ask them for a tracking number, AND look up that tracking number while you're on the phone with them.

After all that's happened to those that were a part of this deal, I sure would not have gotten off the phone without a tracking number AND looking it up to guarantee it's validity.

I wish you good luck.

just my $0.02

Why don't you stop being so negative? Why do you care enough to be such an arrogant prick?
negative?

Gateway is the worst (major) POS etailer ever.

That is a fact. They have lied to their customers and really don't know what is going on inside their own company.

They have wasted many THOUSANDS of hours of our time and held up credit card funds for no reason.

. . . at this point only a hopeless country bumpkin is going to believe the crap Gateway is still saying.

oh, wait . . . maybe i should apologize . . . do YOU still believe they will honor their price?

at this point - months later, who really cares? . . . even if they DO ship ANY or all cards, they should lose any normal person's trust.

I find it funny how some people think we are bashing ATI/Gateway. That's not the case. They are bashing us...

I've pretty much given up on any company including dell to deliever an ATI 800XT card. Everyone is getting information from ATI...

So, Who to blame? Maybe the people here waiting for a HOT DEAL? Nah... I still fault ATI for this CF... I want to give them over 400.00 for a video card and they can't deliever so ... Oh well...

I am pretty content with my 6800GT, No stutter problems and a Ghz RAM speed for a killer deal of 300 bucks shipped!

Oh yeah this is an ATI forum. But, well, we can talk for 4-5 months on what what we DON'T have or talk about the stuff we DO have. I perfer the DO's.

BTW, I had to scroll back really far to get the 6/3/04 when I actually orderd this card to check status...

Please contact your Gateway Sales Representative or call Customer
Service at 800-846-2301 for information on your order status.

Uh, yeah, sure ... Fine... Like I am even going to WASTE my time... I am sure glade I gave them a very bad resellers rating. I wish now that I could give ATI the same rating as well.

what do you mean "pretty content"?

$300 was a great deal for a GT!

And i do agree about ati . . . they have failed to deliver what they promised . . . gateway is just inept.

Thank you for using Gateway's Online E-mail Support. I see that you are
inquiring on status of order ******** for Radeon X800XT 8X APG 256MB.
Let me to explain this to you. Please note that on verifying our
records I am sorry to inform you that the corresponding order has been
canceled, as the vendor no longer manufactures the respective part. Due
to this reason the order has been canceled. However, you can place a
new order for an alternate part with the same functions and features as
of the Radeon X800XT 8X APG 256MB by contacting our Sales consultant.
Gateway has a separate dedicated team to interact with customers
regarding the sales queries. Our Gateway consultant is technically
expertise in suggesting right product to the customer is available
online. You can have a live chat with the consultant and get to know
about the product available as wished by you. Please note that since
they are available on live chat, you can always interact with them and
demand your needs, they will be able to place the order for you. Please
note that a Gateway Consultant is the better person to comment on the
compatibility, pricing and stock availability.

I wonder what that Alternate Part might be? A pro Perhaps? 9800? Maybe the same part just more $$?

No not content but very happy with my Nvid card!

ATI go to hell!

Who is next? Dell?

seriously, it does look like ati has almost stopped manufacturing the x800xt (agp), which is very strange. I mean, I haven't heard of anyone buying it since may/june when a very limited quantity was sold at bestbuy.com, and of course all the reviewers got a sample. So I wonder what could be the reason for it - is it that they are giving priority to PC builders and their demand takes up all the manufacturing capacity, or is there some other problem ? btw, does anyone know if the visiontek x800 xt's where being sold anywhere ?

Gateway cancelled out my order despite my best attempts to keep it, stating in the e-mail "researching our records, I am sorry to inform you that your order has been canceled as unable to process your order. "

Whatever that means.

If they ever carry the PE again I will call and ask them to give it to me for my order price.

And I don't think ATI has stopped making the X800 XT. You can still (pre)order it direct from their website for the MSRP.

????? so you're willing to wait on your upgrade for a retailer to get a product in stock, just for the slim chance to save a few bucks ?!?!?!?
Dude, if you were planning to upgrade your system and spend 400-500 on a video card, just go ahead and get something else, there is no point in postponing an upgrade because this. Unless of course you mean that you're going to try to buy it from gateway when they get it, even after you buy something else ?!? so I guess you would do it then just on principle, and sell it on ebay later ? grow up, move on

Sorry for the false alarm everyone...I just called gateway to try to get a tracking number like someone suggested above and was told that the CSR who informed me that my order shipped was mistaken....her explanation was that the CSR must have only looked at the last status code...but there are apparently two codes, the first code indicated the order was canceled whereas the second code means shipped...only if by itself, what kind of system is that haha
she appologized, said the other csr must have been very new and then asked me why no one wanted the 9800 instead

ah well, the saga comes to an end for me - order canceled, done, kaput, goodbye and goodnight gateway
sorry again for the false hope, it looks like the rude guy above was right to make fun of me : (

personally the wait was worth the chance of getting it though, good luck with your other 6800 / x800 deals all!

It sucks. I was in on the deal early but cancelled a while ago. I would recommend you go to Reseller Ratings and share your Gateway experience with others. I know it's not Gateway's fault that ATI can't produce the X800XT's but it is their fault that they can't properly evaluate and address the situation. There's a reason a great company like NewEgg is at the top end and Gateway is at the bottom. Please do everyone a favor and post an evaulation that helps keep them where they deserve.

I will point out one last time that:

A) Gateway is 100% at fault for stating that they had the cards in stock when they never did

B) Gateway outright charged many people for these cards, even though they've yet to ship a single one. Their own policy is not to charge unless and item is shipped. I'm not talking about credit hold, I'm taalking about actual debiting from their charge accounts i.e. going from authorization hold TO actual charge and into the straight balance!

These are two big, fat errors that are cause for seriously smacking them in the face with candidly bad reviews at ResellerRatings. If they start to feel the hurt from negative feedback, they may do something about their foul way of doing business. NEVER charge for an undelivered good. NEVER list an item as in stock WHEN YOU'VE NEVER EVEN RECEIVED ANY.

You can NOT blame ATi for something like that!

-Ed

EDIT: The only reason I originally even ordered from them, on June 6th, was that not only did they list the card as in stock, but I called in before ordering and the CSR told me it was in stock!

EddNog... I know all about the "in stock" claims. I ordered from a Sales Rep and spoke to a CSR person after ordering. Both said the item was in stock when I ordered. I did not know about credit cards being charged. I never checked mine though.

I've been ranting on Gateway the whole time because they deserve it. As far as I know no other site advertised and confirmed the X800XT as in stock. And to make matters worse instead of getting to the bottom of the situation and letting customers know what's going on they didn't even try. Even their own Sales and CS departments didn't know. The best part was my order status right after I ordered. I ordered on the 6th and it said my order had shipped (not would ship) on the 16th. That's right, they predicted the future! Nice order tracking Gateway...

Same here, pal...

I ordered 6/3. On 6/7, my order will have shipped on 6/10. The ironic part? It was scheduled to ship 6/5.

What does this mean? Their system, on the 7th, when I checked the online status page, told me that the order was scheduled to ship two days earlier, but it has already shipped in three days from now.

...

OMG !!!! that is so funny, the gateway system is so messed up that cancelled status can look exactly like shipped status ! No matter how new a CSR is, the system must be royaly screwed up to create the appearance of such ambiguity.

That is truely funny, so funny in fact it's almost......predictable !

Now, finally that everything is cancelled you can close down this thread and move on. Good luck to those of you that will be joining the next waiting line to get in on a deal that will (maybe) save you a couple of bucks after another long wait. And congrats to the peoples that learned a valuable lesson from this.

yeah, hit their reseller ratings . . . with the truth . . .

i dropped out of this almost 2 months ago . . . of course, i still stopped by to check in . . . i am surprised ANYone had the patience to deal with gateway's rank stupidity for so long. . . . actually they aren't stupid . . . read on >

i have a feeling you are going to see the XT-PE back on sale next month - for MSRP- at Gateway. Eventually, ATI will deliver and Gateway will get their stock . . . they just wanted to get rid of YOU - the "hangers-on" - by offering the 9800p and x800p for crap prices so they don't have to take any "loss".

for me, it worked out well, i sold my old Radeon 8500 and got a new 9800xt for really cheap . . . hopefully, when r500 and nv50 launch NEXT YEAR (with 4x the processing power of the x800xt), it will be LEGIT.

After 2+ months on "backorder" with CDW my order was cancelled - discontinued, argued with them, yada yada yada.

Bought an eVGA 6800 Ultra at MSRP and its running great in my shuttle XPC even though it only has a 240W power supply. I'm setting up water cooling this weekend so that I can get the case cover back on by removing the stock 6800 doublewide cooling.

Just FYI incase anybody else thought the x800PE was the only high-end option for a shuttle XPC.

ummm....6800U in XPC...hahahaha, that's a good one. Oh and thanks for finally mentioning that it doesn't even fit with the case closed....I was gonna ask about that. But size is not your main problem, this thing is going be hotter than a microwave once you close it. And if you'll try running any serious 3D app/game, I predict your PSU will start writing its own will. The watercooling is again a pioneering idea for XPC (kudos for originality), but, umm, wouldn't that ruin the portability of that thing ?

Yes, this deal finally is DEAD, and should be marked accordingly. 4th conversation in last week with gateway, my order was cancelled without my permission yesterday and cannot be reentered.

No, piling on the criticism of why I tried to stay with this deal really won't help. The fact is, there are no other "deals" right now on a new-gen card. I had hopes this would work, not out of ignorance, but for the fact that I don't want to pay MSRP + premium.

Who do I fault? ATI, Gateway, myself. Lessons learned. Better luck next time.

I also got an email from cdw about a month ago saying they are no longer geting the BBA x800xt in stock and asked if i wanted the pro instead. I ordered the BBa pro and when i opened it i was surprised to find it was vivo and had the 1.6ns ram, so i flashed it to xt and it now has 16 pipes active . Pretty much an xt board sold as a pro. Funny thing was i thought BBA X800 pro's didnt come in vivo. oh well...im happy .

Nice.

If the GW offer was for a VIVO Pro, I would have taken that happily. However, Munter, I think your luck with CDW is much better than mine with GW. They would have shipped me a 9800pro

Why fault or criticize anyone? I have that tendency too sometimes but it's something I'm trying to get away from. You have your price you're willing to pay, you made a nice try. It didn't work out. So what? Even with bid sniping, I lose auctions all the time on eBay because people are willing to pay more for items than I am. Hey, that's their choice.

It is what it is. I kept my order around just because it really didn't take much effort (typing messages on this forum was more effort) and I found it kind of amusing... there's no point in getting myself worked up about whether or not Gateway honored their price on something they didn't have anyway. Did anyone really expect to receive the order, keeping their nose pushed against their front window waiting for a delivery truck to come every day since June?

I put my order in back in June on the chance would get lucky since I knew I would be upgrading about this time (AMD price cuts Aug 22).

(I do wonder what might have happened if ATI actually had filled their order supply chains better. I actually think Gateway would have shipped.)

But I've had a BFG 6800 OC Ultra in my new system since mid-August... it was only after I got that card that I came back to my June order since I wasn't sure if I was going to end up with an extra card. Heck, at one point I'd actually obtained 2 of the BFG's even though everyone seems to think they are hard to get (returned one back to Fry's unopened after an online vendor filled my order @ $499 no tax free shipping). I just kept the Gateway order since it would have been a great price- if I had gotten lucky I would have put it in one of my other 3 machines.
