Wow, nearly 5 weeks of watching this thread and I think I may jump ship. If the wait hasn't killed me then the HardOCP benchmarks have driven a stake in me...people smarter than me have known this coming based on previous Open GL performance. I just didn't expect the results to be so dramatic.

I'm sure you guys have been checking out the monster of a thread at HOCP debating all this. I thought I was getting a hot deal on the X800 XT (got in on the 10% off) and now I'm looking for a 6800GT deal...gonna get soaked I'm sure, pricewise. What's the latest on 6800GT pricing and availability on the web?

'Course the X800 XT is playable for D3. Does anyone really expect any noticeable improvement with a future driver release by ATI to level the playing field? Doesn't seem reasonable to me at all to expect this to happen.

The article was posted around midnight last night for me; By the time I got to look at it, it was around 2:30am, and the thread had already reached some 16 pages in length! I finished reading around 4:30am, and it was 26 pages long!!! This morning I wopke up and checked the thread, but it was still 26 pages, yet the last page's threads were totally different. Apparently, the moderators deleted a crapload of older messages, and yet it managed to stay at 26 pages. I came back at 3:00 to read up some more and it has now grown to 33 pages in length.

That thread exploded to larger than this one within 15 hours time!!! :Q

Btw if anybody has a crapload of spare time, that thread makes for equally interesting reading as the article for which it's a discussion of.

I went all out - I'm getting my eVGA 6800 GT TOMMOROW! I ordered before 3:00pm today and got Next Day Air Saver. It came out to be about the same price as this Gateway deal, just ... I'm getting it tommorow. I thought about retail stores, but they are unavailable, and after tax, it would have been 433.33 instead of 437.95. I am way looking forward to tommorow.

I cancelled my order, after reading the hardocp review, it tipped it for me. I'll just keep my 9800 pro for now and upgrade maybe next spring. The review was very disappointing..........oh well it's just a card.

Nvidia runs well on OGL while ATI runs better on D3D. So while Nvidia is leading the doom 3 benches, Ati will likely be leading the Half-life 2 benchs.

I'd say the eVGA is a much better choice then the PNY, but I'm still waiting for the Leadtek GT's to come down in price, as they oc very well do to awesome stock cooling.

Guru3D.Net tends to stockpile prerelease/beta/alpha drivers, so I'd check there for the latest nVIDIA software for our GT cards, if anywhere.

I'm not sure which drivers are fastest/most stable as yet, since I literally received my GT 20 minutes ago.

I am changing cases from a Super LAN Boy to a Tsunami Dream, not just installing the GT, so it'll take me some time...

Also, I am gonna' do a quick mod on it, since I noticed that the card (I bought an XFX) uses these pathetic looking thermal pads between the heatsink and the components; I am going to try and uninstall the sinks, remove the thermal pads, and apply Arctic Silver V in their place.

I make an art of TIM. My site has a write-up with images on this technical artistic performance skill, that, in my opinion, deserves true mastery by any hardware enthusiast!

You folks all jump ship now. Push me up higher on the list. What are all the ppl gonna do when they buy Nvidia just to pick up frames in Doom, then HL comes out and ATI is on top again. ATI still seems the best all-rounder to me.

I heard that Gateway was cancelling all XT PE orders and downgrading them to X800 Pro orders. I read that on the Hard OCP or guru3d forum. If you paid less than X800 Pro MSRP, they will ask for more money. It hasn't been confirmed, but still, sounds tacky.

Errr, Now you guys are starting to scare me...

That 6800GT deal had been my backup, now to find out that was a scam.... I can't hardly believe that even a company as limp as Gway would try that kinda crap. Has anyone here been given similar stories? There's always that Nvid Fanboy possibility. I remember on the Gway 4400 debacle, ATI FB's tried to sow the seeds of discontent.

I guess the next best idea is to get in on that 6800 ultra for 445 and wait for it then. GRRRRR!!!!

Well, I have no idea if it is true or not. I do know that I was JUST about to order from Provantage, but the price was raised in the 5 minutes I was on the phone with my girlfriend. Thank goodness!!! Anyway, my eVGA 6800 GT was ordered yesterday, and it will get here today =)

Well I am still on the fence here. Trying not to get too upset about the D3 benches. Gway still hasn't changed my 7/29 shipping sate although we all know that won't happen. Still holding on to that fact that I could get my hands on this card for <$400 in the next few weeks still seems like a sweet deal.

BTW ZZF has the plain 9800 128 MB for $288. I know, no GT and only 128MB.
