Fairly hot price for an older but still capable video card. If you need something to tide you over until decent DirectX 10 cards come out (cheap) then this would last a year or so.

Seems like a descent deal. Not up on the latest videocards. How is this compared to Nvidia 7600gt card? I am trying to upgrade, but not to that $500+ 8800GT card! Too expensive.

The X1900GT card defeats the 7900GS for the most part. It is definitely faster than the 7600GT, no contest.

Think of it as ever-so-slightly slower than the X1950 Pro.

1900GT would be around 50-70% faster than 7600GT. Both have good overclocking potential. I would wait a couple of weeks for 2900 Pro with DX10 support and faster overall. It should be around $230. If you don't care too much about the most recent games running smoothly at highest setting with 1600x1200 AA+AF then go with 1900GT now, it should provide decent framerate at 1280x1024 and most/all settings on high. But then again, it all depends on what CPU and how much RAM you have.

I keep hearing how 1900gts are excellent overclockers, what 1950pros are not. Assuming average OC'ing luck respectively, would you say both cards are roughly equal in high rez settings (1900x1200, perhaps no AA)?

For a little over $115, you could get HIS 1950pro (though it is open box), so this begs for a question.

How does this card compare in terms of performance to 8600GT series cards? The 8600GT series cards are DX10 happy, is this one?

It handles better than the 8600GTS, but I cannot speak to the GT (again, I only go by Toms VGA charts). But not compliant with DX10 - the only ATI cards that are DX10 happy are either under-performers or crazy (~$400) pricey.

Thats why I am seeing this as a good in-between card. If you are able to play today's games with decent framerates, I would hold off. But if you are limping along on some old first Gen PCI Express card, this would be great upgrade.

I'm building a new box right now, and I'm not an avid gamer. A little RTS here and there is fine, so I don't need a real high-end card. Now I'm torn between this x1900GT and a 8600GT card in about the same price range......

I would go with the x1900gt (unless you must have DX10) which to me is not that important at this time.

Just my .02

Does this (x1900GT) or a GF 8600GT handle HDCP properly so they can be used to output to a TV?

Yeah this is really a great deal.. I just can't justify upgrading from a 6600gt when all I ever play is source..

If I get a new monitor this will be needed however... hmmm..

This is OEM, so I imagine that means card only. It will not have anything that you see pictured with it.

My experience with Newegg (and others) has been that you get all the cables. OEM generally means you wont get the fancy software (DVD tools like Power DVD etc). If Newegg gives pictures with the product, then thats what you can expect to receive.

Now other places may be shadier, but Newegg does an excellent job of telling you what you will get for your money.

bump since no one has answered the question yet
little googling reveals rev.1 is definitely better than 1950pro. This would most likely be rev.2 though, in which case both should be nearly equal after overclocking right?

Can you believe that newegg.com raised the price to $109.99 while I was putting my credit card information?! What da flip!!!!!! I still purchased it, though. I just considered the extra $10 as tax. I didn't go with the open box 1950pro because I have heard too many people complaining about artifacts and stuff from open box/refurbished videocards. I am currently running a64 4000+ at 2.9ghz with 2gigs of g.skill pc3200. Oh, my current videocard is radeon 7000 sdr 32mb pci card!!! LOL, I'm serious. I paid $100 for this card a while back.

price jacking FTL. looks like newegg fell in love with doing this
they just took off that instant 10.00 discount.
whatever, I will just wait a bit longer

Whoever asked about comparison of 1900gt to 1950Pro: my x1950Pro 256MB by Sapphire came with a relatively crappy heatsink. I could only get 10 extra Mhz on GPU and around +30Mhz on memory. I replaced stock cooling with Zalman VF-700Cu... Lo behold it's running at 635Mhz-GPU and 756Mhz-Memory (stock: 580/700) . Never goes above 65C under load and idles at 40-42. Plus the new fan is silent. When buying one of these cards, check some reviews to find out what kind of memory it's using. 1950Pro might have lower access time memory, which will obviously result in better o/c. If memory is the same then go with 1900GT.

Just checked some reviews. Looks like 1.4ns memory is used by most 1950Pros and 1900GTs. In this case, 1900GT is a better deal, if you plan to o/c.
