Can I get a little directional assistance for the $10 coupon?

Too late for me, but a couple friends are interested in this.

Wow. This is tempting. I was researching for a new receiver and was going to wait a few months and use the pieces I have now for speakers, but this is hard to resist. . . Refund check can't get here soon enough.

My main listening preference is music. Lots of different music, but including lots of accoustic jazz and classical. So I'm wondering if anyone can give an honest review of the setup from a music perspective. Don't get me wrong, I love movies (just bought a DVD player finally, so I'm psyched for some DTS action!), but it seems more speaker systems are acceptable for movies than music. This is probably what I want to pay (assuming I can get a sub for ~$150 - the Sony seemed nice except I heard it wasn't as good for music. . .jeez!). I saw tons of recommendations for PSB Alpha Intros, but a five piece of those would run $570! This is an awesome deal if they're as good as some people say.

So, any takers? TIA.

PS - Seems to be the popular decision: I'm debating the Onkyo 494/595 vs. the Denon (prob. 1802), too. I'll go w/ the 494 if I can convince myself I don't need the preamp outs on the Denon. My apartment is tiny and will never need any more power than any of these put out.

I found this link from the HomeTheaterForum website. I don't know how biased he is, but according to many ppl (not just him) the N24s are supposedly the best speakers you can get for your buck. And from what I've read on his site, jazz & classical sound really good.

Phil's Home Theatre Website

However, you do need to supplement the speakers with a sub. From what I've read as well, these work great as surrounds but some ppl find them lacking as far as front speakers go.

Thanks. I had just started looking at that site. Seems a little biased, but the full reviews he links to are not.

Anyone have another sub recommendation in the same price range as the popular Sony? The JBL seems a little steep.

Also, a coworker found the Klipsch Synergy System 6 for $700. That sounds almost good enough to make me blow my budget and get it. Has anyone heard those and the JBLs?

I can't say on the N24's, but I have the N26's and they are NOT lacking for anything as fronts! Of course I do have a nice JBL sub too. I am very very happy with them. I say a little more about it ^up earlier in the thread.

azri... I cannot find a place to put the coupon code.
I think that one may have expired on 1-31-02
Oh well.

At $229, I bought another set.
Gonna call them now to see if they will change my previous order from $249 to the current $229.

I have the Pioneer HTD510DV. It's a 5 disc DVD changer, 5.1 and DTS receiver, it plays most VCD and SVCD formats. It also includes fronts, rears, and subwoofer. It cost me $280 with the MSN, AMEX, etc before Christmas. While I don't think you'll get it for that, I've seen the whole set on Evay for under $400. It is a VERY nice set up for the low end. I'm very happy with it. Actually, it's too nice. It's one of those things where "wow, this is really nice. I wonder how nice a system I could get if I spent 5x more." In other words, this has gotten me hooked!

For really good receivers, don't overlook Yamaha. My HTR 5460 is an excellent Home Theater receiver, especially for watching movies. Some people claim it's too "bright" for music, but I have not found it to be so. Yamaha provides excellent bang for your buck.

For those of you that purchased the system for $249.95...
Send buy.com a request for them to pricematch themselves and credit you the difference of $20.
Go to help, the bottom right you will see "Anytime Help". Simply fill out the form.

They will do it.

excuse the newbie post, but I'm on a very tight budget - $300 range (for complete system - 5 speakers & Dolby/DTS receiver). seems like all posts, are quoting $200 range for separt componets - that adds up to too much for me.

But in looking at Costco, BB, Sams etc - they have complete setups for ~$300 (including Dolby/DTS receivers that have lots of input/output jacks (optical, S-vido, coax and standard RBY).

Are those bugdet system totally crap ??? Are they better then no system (waste of money - wait even longer to save more in the dad's play account)

Rember I'm looking for a general family room setup to playback Cable TV, Playstation, VCR tapes, and DVDs movies & shows ranging from Nick for the kids to dad's "Matrix" .

Any suggestions welcomed

Home Theater: Basic Systems Thread

The link above is to an archived thread on the Home theater on this very subject Dxpaap. The JVC system and the Kenwood are both recomended. My Dad has the Panasonic and while the sound isn't as good as mine, its a huge improvement over the TV speakers. Good luck!

Anyways, in today's So. Cali FRY's ad. They have the Cerwin-Vega AVS-632 HT speaker package for $249 This includes 5 speakers with 1 8" 100 watt powered sub. Any idea which is better the JBL or the C.Vega with the powered sub. Thanks

Anyone have the KLH HTA-9005 Five-Piece Surround Speaker System? The price seems so cheap to be any good?
