Now I fried W2K with SP2...joy

I shouldn't of installed this when I was tired...I installed the 4in1s and sound card drivers, vid, etc. THEN installed SP2, and rebooted and can't get into W2K in normal or safe mode. Then I remembered I was supposed to install SP2 THEN Via's...ah well screw W2k I'll live with W98SE for a few more years...

Start>Settings>control panel>Administrative tools>servives, But be careful, you can make your system unuseable. Suggest you visit some of the W2K Optimization articles, do a search at anands, under the web news search.

Scouzer isn't looking for services. What you need to do is download this. It's basically MSCONFIG for W2K. As for service packs, I'd just go ahead and get SP2. Sure, there may be a couple of new bugs. But it fixes something like five thousand bugs.

Except, I installed SP 2 and fried my Win2K...ah well screw it, I'll stick with Win98SE for a few more years.

Sorry about that, I guess I just remember that when I installed W2K I read that disabling a lot of the services can help free up RAM. I apologize for the bad advice. However, I still think that giving this a read is still worth it. There are a lot of things starting there that aren't necessary if you are just running W2K as your desk top system.

I had this happen to me and a friend, if you pop in the win2k CD and boot to that, just run a quick restore, and you can go back to your last setting before the SP2 install. It worked great for us.

And so has anyone that upgraded video drivers or via 4in1's prior to installing sp2, which would be most anyone who had Win2k set up for any length of time before sp2. I don't see why that would fubur your install any more than installing the other way around.
