One of my best friends has an old Abit version with a huge fan on it (i'm not sure quite what it's called, but there's a pipe that goes out of the case and everything....it's reallly big). He still uses it for games like FEAR and HL2 (granted not at max details ) He also played BF:2 on his though, and it worked fine.

They're nice cards.

FYI, newegg has an Asus nv 6200 AGP card # 82E16814121542 for $49 + 5 shipping.

The extra $10-15 gets you:
- 128 MB RAM
- DX9 support at decent speed
- 350 MHz core / 500 MHz RAM (most others are 300 core / 400 RAM)
- passively cooled - silent

Just going to use it for the families wcIII machine.

Thx OP!! I can finally upgrade from my GF4 MX420 lol..
I used to own a Ti4200 and ATi9800 before but I overclocked them too much which eventually killed them, so I punished myself and took out good ole Mx420 out of the junk box and put it in the machine
The Ti4200 was a nice card when i had it, and was safely able to get Ti4400 speeds, but i got too greedy and wanted Ti4600 speeds (bad choice) hehe..
I think I paid almost $180 back then for that card, now I can get a new one for $40, I couldnt resist and bought one to replace this POS mx420

I've got a TI4200...going on 3 years old now, but I only paid $80 to start with. Thought it was about the best Vid Card deal I'd ever see...until I got a 6800 for $35 last week.

Still, that 4200 is going into my second box with a 1.33 Athlon for a great box for most anything up to about 2004.

What are you on, and where can I get some of it? Did you research this at all? I bet you think the Geforce5 FX5200 is better than the Ti4200-4600, too, just becaues the number is higher, right? Is that what the Geek Squad guy told you before he sold you a $60 new video card that gets left in the dust by a card that is at least 5 years old that PNY sells refurbed for $20. Even in most DirectX 9 games, if you look at the benches, the Ti series pulls ahead of everything worse than an FX5600 Ultra. If you're spending under $100 on a video card, get a Radeon 9800 XT/Pro or Ti4600, if you can't afford that get a Ti4400, 4200, or nothing. You might as well use onboard video if you're going to buy a GeForce 66200. There's a reason nobody talks about them, and all you hear about is the 6600 and above - because the 6200 SUCKS. It's like taking a Lamborghini, shutting 8 of the 12 cylinders down, and putting 20 bags of cement inside. The 6200's are the crap part of the wafer that couldn't hack it as a 6600, 6600GT, 6800, and so forth. The bottom of the barrel, in other words.

does this mean that i should be installing directx 8 over my dx9? or can it still run good with dx9? How does it work?

The DX version of card is not referring to what version you need on your computer. If a card is dx9 it means it has the hardware capable of supporting the features found in directx 9. You can still run the card with dx8 but you may experience features not working or errors. If the card is dx8 and you ahve dx9 installed then the card simply will not take advantage of the extra features.

Good deal. I picked up a couple of the Radeon 9600 (non-SE) cards they had awhile back for about the same price, or I'd probably jump on these for my kids' PCs.

Thanks for the clarification!

On the side not ... i ordered the ti4200 with dvi (not much in price difference so why not?) but they shipped me the freakin one with s-video out only... ughhh!!

Same thing happened to me. I emailed them last night about getting shipped a non DVI card and they haven't gotten back to me yet.

ya know it would cost them what? $4 to ship the correct card and $4 for the return shipping on the wrong card ... i'd really like to get the dvi card... but i might just keep this if they could give me a $7-8 discount... haha (only cuz i needed a video card... since ... last week)

SenorBiggles - what are you going to do about it? I emailed them also, but I don't know how long it's going to take.

I remember buying a case from them once. It was defective and I RMA'd it for a new one. They charged me shipping again for the new one... rip off .... I need to read their policy.

anyhow... the box says it supports dx-9
go figure... probably a misprint or some incorrect to get people to buy it.

The Ti4200 was one of the more popular video cards available. They usually overclocked to Ti4600 speeds and were both plentiful and decently priced. They're still somewhat fast for older games or lower settings on newer games. In fact, I still have one in my daughter's PC where it's happily running all of her games (she's 10). It'll stay there until I upgrade again and she'll either get my Radeon 9500NP (ie-9700) or my X800XT PE.

If you don't mind the long distance cost (or just use a cell phone if you have a plentiful minute nationwide plan), call them - (phone numbers here). I've had a few problems with them in the past before and they've taken care of all but one that I can remember. Most recently, they shipped me a new retail box motherboard (among other items), but the box looked like it had been torn and was missing a few things (driver CDs, ATX backplate, maybe dropped out in the warehouse?). I emailed them first and didn't get a response after 2 days so then I called them. The guy I ended up talking to credited me back like $10 (which was pretty much the shipping for the order). Of course, he credited my geeks.com account, so the $10 was really to be applied to my next order. I don't know if they'll do outright refunds, but you can always threaten to never shop there again.

Interesting... I thought I'd have to pay for shipping back if I wanted the right product, but they sent me a Fedex prepaid shipping label. Wasn't going to waste my time shipping back for $1 difference, but I guess I will now.

Now there's a Radeon 9800 with the 10% off coupon, about $76+shipping
128MB,DVI,TV-out,AGP,256-bit Non-Pro, kinda warm.

EDIT: Hmm. Not sure about this one. The picture doesn't look like a 256-bit 9800. The memory chips are all in one line. Maybe someone who knows better can elaborate on this? Apollo's web site does not list this card, only a 9800Pro.

I noticed that too. The 256 bit cards have the ram in an L configuration. Maybe it's one of those "product may vary from picture" things.

I got one too... what exactly do i do with this? print it out and tape it with clear tape to the damn box? ( i don't have a freakin printer too>>)
Does this mean they'll ship me my card ... without charging me?
It was pain enough trying to get fedex to come to my work place instead because someone keeps taking the fedex sticker off my door.

ughhh

Thanks, OP.

Im in for a 64M with DVI out to replace on board graphics on my Q-Pack. DVI is what I really needed not the better/different graphics.

Thanks to the people who had problems also and posted them. I sent them and email stating I wanted and needed the DVI version only and also put it in comments when I ordered. We shall see.

Coupon code worked also so under $40 shipped.

I just got the basic 64 Mb Ti4200 card (which is still in stock, by the way) and it handles Halo at high settings with little or no lag on a 512 mb 3100 Sempron machine. Not a serious gamer, but that is more than good enough for me!

Question: the box for the graphics card say it has DX9 capability. I thought that the Ti4200 did not have that capability. Anybody have any ideas?

<edit> I used the most recent drivers off the nVidia site and they seem to work fine --- no hangups or crashes. I cannot speak to whether or not they are optimal for this card.
As many of you have said, I cannot see how this card can have DX9 capability (even though it claims to right on the box). A quick search of various brands and flavors of this card on the web show no DX 9 capability for any of them. Still a nice little card and a great deal.

They cross shipped my RMA for the correct card. Arrived yesterday. Very nice of them.
Only negative thing was that they didn't want to ship it to my work when i requested it. I wasn't going to be home to receive it. Other than that, everything was handled fine ... I'd give them plus rating

The box does say dx9 is supported, but i'd go with what the chipset says... and i think it's what everyone else has been saying ... dx8

Gonna install it now

what drivers are best for these? I think that the latest drivers might lean toward the gf7/6 series more

Thanks all!
