yeah, i am finding that a bit annoying as well. wouldn't be so bad if you could have more than 1 mission at a time.

still crashing to desktop on me after playing a bit. I hope they patch it soon.

I just got it today, not loaded yet, but I have it. I found the first on to be fun and this one says it has 50 hours of play in it. (true or not, it will still have a lot)

When I get a chance I'll install it and give it a go. (And I have played both Crysis games.)

I NEED HELP! I can't find the stupid Diamonds, this is pretty much at the start, I rescued that woman and she said to meet her at the bar. So I went back to HQ and the guy told me some Diamonds are outside in a box and I could have them. I use the GPS and went everywhere, a few spots the light did turn solid but there was nothing around. Wow I suck lol.

When the light turns solid, walk in whichever direction you are facing. You'll find the case with the diamond in it.

hmm...now after I load the game, i get mouse lag and my FPS seems to be a lot lower than it used to be. i also can't click on the quit option from the menu, i have to arrow down to it...

reloaded again and now the lag is gone and my fps is back but the quit option still won't let me click on it.

the enemies must have night vision...it's pitch black, i can barely see anything. i was crawling through the grass and i was sitting there looking at a guy when i hear a jeep patrol coming. i turn to look at it and the dude i was originally looking at sees me and starts shooting! fucking jeep ramps up through the field and hits me, killing me instantly.

oh, and shortly before that (still pitch black) i shot a guy with my silenced pistol as a jeep patrol was turning around. i was behind a tree and in some jungle area and they immediately came right after me. i ran and hid. tell you what though, the ensuing pursuit and battle was pretty cool and intense. they're looking for me and i'm behind some bushes and a tree. I can hear them talking and moving around but can't see them. definitely made for a cool gaming moment.

so yeah, they need to reduce the enemies super sight.

so i guess i'll stick to day missions since it seems they have the advantage in the dark.

it turns solid when I'm right by the barn wall, there's nothing in front of me besides the wall. If I go to the other side of the wall the light's blinking again. I feel like an R-Tard because this should be super simple, I'm obviously not doing something right lol.

Try the roof or a basement area, if it has one. They don't hide the diamonds in logical locations all the time.

BTW, the sensitivity slide all the way up doesn't help my mouse lag.

^^^ I followed your link for "Sara Palin on maps" that is absolutly the funniest thing I have ever heard from a politician when trying to talk about something they have no idea about.
anywho, I have been playing the Far Cry 2 also and I am rather happy so far with it, I have only finished 2 or so missions and tonight was the first time that my wife actually had to ask me more than one to get off the video games and do something else for a while. it seems like this title is the breath of fresh air that I have been waithing for... yay I can finally justify the money I put into the hardware I bought so long ago for PC gaming!

Saw that on another forum, i believe it was solved by turning off AA. (well that doesnt exactly solve the problem, i just remember thats what he did)

This works to a certain extent, when I 1st started playing AA was being forced by the CCC which is normal for me. But I did also turned it on with the game settings, after using the application control check box in the CCC and game AA I got the trees like in the screenshot. Now I have zero on in the game itself and using 4x AA in the CCC with box setting and its normal. So to sum it up dont use game AA and just force it on in the CCC if you get the issues I had and it should be fine.

My thoughts on the game so far are meh, but this could change. Like others have said there is alot of driving you spend a tremendous amount of time traveling IMHO which is going to get old real fast.

Ok... I've played this game since afternoon today, and so far I do honestly really like it, it's quite epic, the immersion effect is certainly very well executed, but oh my God the crashes are such a turn off, tell me guys I'm not the only one experiencing them? I've had three so far, each times occurring after around two hours of game-play, just randomly happening. And all of the crashes didn't even send me to the Desktop (so I guess it's not a "CTD" per se).

No, it's a system crash, the last sound that played before the crash loops itself endlessly, my monitor goes black and its power light turns orange, and my system becomes entirely unresponsive, I had to hard-reset it. I would really like to resume playing, but I think I'll just leave it installed of course but I won't play it until a patch is released. I have tried running the game with default hardware frequencies as well just to make sure that my OC wasn't the cause, but the third crash I've had occurred while playing under default clocks, and all my drivers are WHQL (sound, video and chipset).

Dammit... I just wanted to play it. Looks like I'll go back playing TF2 for now heh... very frustrating indeed.

When I first launched the game, the screen was constantly rolling black bars (like when you get a bad TV signal and the screen rolls horizontally constantly) and it wouldn't go away until I totally disabled in game AA, set the 'maximize' switch to 1, and forced Vsync on.

Currently running 24x Edge detect CFAA forced in CCC without trouble.

Nah, not hardware for sure, none of my other games crash, and many of them are quite demanding, but fortunately I think I'm not alone, I've read a couple of reports around that it does crash randomly, relatively rarely though, on systems running their default clocks, nothing over-clocked. I'm quite certain that it's the software... but of course I could be wrong. There's one thing I'm sure about as being a fact is that as I said none of my other games crash, and this one does.

Definitely way too much driving. It's not like the driving is fun either. It's slow paced. More NPC. You kill goto point A and B and kill some more. It's becoming a chore already.

I keep on trying to get rid of the mouse lag in dx10. Still bugging me so I haven't played very far into the game, but I'm learning how to shoot propane tanks at certain angles so they "jump" in the direction I want them to.

So, some issues and thoughts...

1. Mouse lag in dx10. Upped mouse sensitivity to 2.0 in gamerprofile which removed the lag, but far too jumpy. Tried setting all the "smooth" options to "0" but no change. No mouse lag in dx9. BUT...

2. dx9 "windowed" bug. Opens maximized window and window edges flash on and off. I can get rid of it by changing the graphics settings and applying, but it usually comes back after an hour or so. Haven't tried to disable Aero since I'm focused more on dx10 working, but that's probably next.

3. When's the best time to go on missions? When you've got a safehouse handy, you can pretty much plan it for day or night, but with the supersight AI, what's the point of going at night?

4. I'm stoked that this is a true multi-threaded game. I look at my rivatuner monitor after I exit out, and both cores are showing happy graphs around 80%. Anyone with a quad check to see if it uses 4?

5. I'm getting better framerates in the benchmark in dx10 than dx9...which is why I'm trying to fix the mouse lag issue.

Anyway, from what I've played it seems worth it to try and solve these minor annoyances rather than being one of those people that bitches about it, claiming they'll never buy another ubiSoft game again, and then calling into support even though they pirated it.

So far I'd say that the pros and cons are:

----

*PROS*

+ The A.I is quite decent despite the minor "hiccups" I've seen, they're generally doing well, taking cover, searching for me, and I especially like the car chases or just trapping them in fire. I'm playing on Normal, and maybe that the A.I settings were also changed on harder difficulties, I'll have to try Hardcore next I guess. But overall I'm definitely surprised with the A.I when compared to other recent FPS'es.

+ The atmosphere and general ambiance, I think that the guys from the development team sent in Africa to take videos and pictures and just observe and take notes really paid and is quite apparent in the game, similarly to what GSC had done before developing Shadow of Chernobyl. It's a nice initiative and it certainly helped create a more believable place, and it does look big.

+ The graphics and general artistic styles (again certainly based on the content they've gathered from their trip in Africa) are very well executed and chosen. No it's not up to Crysis' visuals but it's certainly up to today's standards, I don't feel like playing a game from 2004 and it's surely a good thing. I'd say that overall FarCry 2's graphics are very good for what it has to show (Africa environment, lots of browns, high grass, scattered vegetation and trees in the savanna, occasional lakes and rivers, etc). I must also say that I just love the idea and the looks of worn weapons, dusty and looking older and certainly not reliable, that's a very well done aspect of the game.

+ The general sounds (weapons, ambient/surroundings/nature/wind/animal groans, etc) are very good, especially the weapons, I really like them, in terms of quality, the "humph" and punch it gives, it's just right on, it's something that I thought is lacking in recent FPS'es, but this one has it, very nicely done.

+ The weather system is just great, and the day/night time cycle is just perfectly timed in my opinion, not too fast like in other games I've seen, but not too slow either, and sleeping allows anyone to skip the nights and/or days whenever they feel like it, very good thing to have that feature out of the box.

----

*CONS*

- A good number of textures aren't as good as they could have been, I'm quite sure about that, many of them do look bland and generally lacking in details even at Ultra High settings, but fortunately it's not the case on all of the surfaces.

- I despise the dialog, how just fast people talk, are they all drinking that much coffee or red bulls in Africa? And it's not like only one character is like that, many of them are speaking just too fast and the one thing in terms of dialog that bothers me the most of the absolute lack of articulation, the voice actors sound like they tried their best to talk with their mouth closed, I can barely understand most of their speech.

- Maybe it happens only in my game, but magically disappearing vehicles is NOT fun. I "lost" two of them that way, one car, one jeep, both of them weren't used before, I'd presume so anyway. I used them some time, got out of them, walked around, lost them from my sight for some time, maybe five or ten minutes, I come back where I had left them, no signs, nothing, maybe getting there in a vehicle was a dream and I walked there on foot and I suddenly woke up while exploring (this point of course refers to what are certainly noticeable bugs that in my book should have been fixed before release, I don't want to experience another Clear Sky, please).

- Is it just me, or I missed something? It's true I haven't played much (only 6% completed according to the stats) but there's no Flashlight or Night Vision in this game at all except for the vehicles' front lights? Please tell me I'm wrong anyone? But if there's indeed no such equipment at all then... what about a big fail? I don't want to play only during day time because I can't see shit at night, and I shouldn't have to set the brightness to maximum either. I hope that I'm the one who's entirely wrong here. If that's the case then thanks God.

- Where are the wild animals? I haven't seen a single one so far, are they always at the same locations and aren't moving around the game world at all? It's more of a question than a complaint, but so far other than meeting angry humans I haven't seen a single Zebra or others, in other words, outside of the few Guard Posts battles I feel a little alone out there. But I guess that going in Africa in real like wouldn't mean that I'd meet any such animals each kilometers either, but who said that a video game had to be like real life huh?

- Have you guys seen any of the bad guys walking around just patrolling on roads and such? To me they seem very restricted and scripted in their "walkable zones", à-la S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (at least vanilla). So far I have met only one traveling bad guy in a car during night time which I believe I met by pure coincidence. If they do travel like that randomly then it's a good thing, but I would have liked to see that happen more often.

- This point is perhaps THE most annoying one for me, and it simply is the respawn time for the baddies at their Posts. I've cleaned four Posts so far, and without exaggeration it took anywhere between four to maybe seven or eight minutes before a new bunch magically reappeared. And on one of those occasions I kept looking around just exploring not far from the mess I had created to clean the place and I literally saw two guys appearing on their patrol paths. If at LEAST the developers could have made them ARRIVE there by car from further away to give the ILLUSION that they walked/drove there from another place then I would have accepted it with open arms.

----

That's about it for now, but I'm only about five or so hours of game-play in so far. I know I will change my mind on some things... but not all of them. I'd give FC2, so far, a solid 8.0/10, it is a great game indeed.

If I put Crysis's graphic settings to make them look like FC2's it will run much worse. Crysis at the lowest settings on my system doesn't run as well as FC2 at the highest. And at the highest FC2 looks better than Crysis did on my system on low settings...

Yes, worlds better. Pretending FC2 looks better or even comparable is a sign of insanity. Like thinking you can fly or walk through walls despite obvious proof otherwise. You might not remember what Crysis looks like or perhaps you are on drugs, I do not know, the 2 are not in the same hemisphere. It's nothing against FC2, it never attempted to beat Crysis, but thinking it does makes you sound retarded and or crazy.

And yes, your computer can run it better, it should, because it's not nearly as demanding. Not only are the graphics of a lower quality, the game is far from Crysis/FC1 level open-endedness.

Remember those old NES games, side scrolling, where if you scrolled to the right and then back to the left, everything had respawned and anything you had left behind was gone? FarCry 2 is similar. Don't leave shit behind, if you have a car you really like, keep it close at all times. Get any weapons you want off the ground before moving on. And every post you cleared has been reoccupied the second you move a screen away. It's a design decision, however it's one I hate.

I've come across Zebra, Wildebeest and Gazelles I think. Actually hit a Zebra when it bolted in front of my vehicle.

Bad guys patrol the roads pretty often. Not on foot, always by car.

Thought I would share a cool thing that happened while playing last night (minor spoilers):

I got my first assassination mission from one of the cell phone towers. Some dude who sounds like jigsaw from the Saw movies told me to go kill a guy at the airstrip down south.

Unfortunately, the airstrip was very far from where I was and I had no vehicle. But not having explored the game to much on foot, I decided to hoof it.

Along the 20 minute walk or so I found a crapload (10 or so) diamond cases, shot a bunch of Zebras (bastards are worse then deer near the road), and cleared out a couple guard posts.

When approaching the airstrip from the Northeast, I noticed a tower with a good view of the airstrip where my target was. After sniping the guard on the tower, I climbed to the top and surveyed the situation.

Thankfully the guards at the airstrip had not noticed me yet. Through my sniper scope I noticed a bunch of them milling about near a large gas tank. I took aim at the tank and popped a hole in the side. Flames burst from the hole and immediately lit 3 of the enemies and the surrounding grass on fire. The other enemies scattered, with a couple eventually finding their way to a jeep. But by the time they got in the jeep, the fire had already spread to their position. The fire engulfed the jeep, riders and all, and BOOM, exploded. The flaming jeep carcass flipped upwards and landed on its back ~25 yards from its original position in another patch of grass, which then started to burn. That new fire burned out of control into the area surrounding the hangers at the air strip, eventually igniting no less than 4 or 5 gas cylinders, which sprung leaks and started flying wildly in all directions, killing other guards and starting new fires when they exploded. One of the cylinders flew into the open door of the hanger, and a few second later I heard a very large BOOM.

I then got word from the game that my mission was complete! Thinking that there was no way that the game would let me take down so many enemies and complete a mission with just one shot, I climbed down from the guard post and went in to survey the rubble. In total, I found 12 dead guards, one dead assasination target, and a crapload of charred rubble on the scene.

In my now 25+ years of gaming, I can say for certain that the 2-3 minutes I spent last night watching the above scenario play out is one of the top 5 most enjoyable gaming moments I have experienced.

Great story soxfan! I had a similar moment in Warhead, aiming for enemy tires on the train level. Once a jeep vaulted into the air after having a tire blow, and fell tumbling into a large gas tank.. it played out like a Hollywood action flick.

I'm digging the immersion of Far Cry, I rescued a buddy with a med kit last night. Unfortunately the constant respawning of enemies is making simple travel very exhausting and unrewarding. It almost feels like a middle manager came in after the fact and said "this game is too short, how can we make it longer"? I mean what's the point of scouting outposts???

Ok the wide screen issue is making me ill neough I have to stop playing.
they need to patch the widescreen issue.
