Yeah, I went off in the other thread about the FOV making me sick.

-I don't like how the enemy patrols are implemented. Either they start shooting you when they're right up your ass or they see you from a few hundred yards out, reverse and speed towards you.
-Stealth killing someone with a machete = not quiet at all. Guys will still notice it and mob rush you.
-Crysis syndrome. Takes a dozen shots to drop someone.
-Crysis syndrome 2: you can aim at someones back, and they react as if they saw you. Same applies to nades, as soon as you let go, they're running in all directions. Must be that spider sense.
-Not enough bus stations or ammo warehouses.

How do you guys adjust the watch when you're at a safehouse? Speaking of the safehouse, I thought your allies are supposed to be in them. Wtf!

plenty of ammo around and i rarely use the safehouses.

you used the a and d keys to adjust the watch

Is there any point to doing this other then change from day to night? Does your character need rest?

as far as i can tell, it's just to change from day to night. i've rarely used the cot and i don't notice any problems not using it.

It would be much cooler if there were both APR and UFLL NPCs on the map and they attacked each other on site, but APR was friendly to you. Even cooler if you could pick your side. Here's hoping someone makes a mod like this.

so you started out with the apr missions? i started out with the ufll missions. must be determined by character or maybe it's just random?

Yep I don't recall being given the choice. I died in the battle in the town at the beginning of the game, and was saved by a guy from APR and that was that.

Looks like I might have to start doing APR missions soon. The only places that show the mission icon is the APR base in Pala and another "envelope" mission (which gives you a predecessor tape).

Anybody remember that quote from the guy who talks to you from waking up in bed in the beginning?

Wonder where it's from.

Has anyone encountered problems with the game crashing when you crash your vehicle? It happened to me twice, both times after I had managed to flip my jeep over.

I'm officially giving up on this game. While the long distances and continuous guard posts were tedious (and repetitive), I was enjoying the game enough to keep playing through. Now I get some mission to rescue a guy being held at the slaughterhouse, go there, kill everything in sight, and the door to the room he's supposedly being kept doesn't open. no other missions can be accepted.

I can handle tedious, but I'm not putting up with broken quests. Too many other good games out to keep wasting my time on this.

I had that problem. I looked at my map and it turns out I had to go to a look out point and 'scout out' the slaughterhouse, even though I had already killed everyone in it . I went to the point, then went back inside and the door opened and I rescued the hostage.

im pretty much with everyone here. driving distance sucks, bullet proof Ts BLOW. tho you can still down guys fairly easy from close by, its still BS how you must shoot them 10 times at least to kill them. ive gotten lots of headshots which always work for me, and grenades are your friend just lob like 2-4 at a time around the enemies

i have no mouse lag issues and ive had no crashes. this is on DX9 Vista 64 on GTX260, DX10 wont work right and sometiems wont evne load the game. oh well, im happy in DX9.

I'm loving the game for the most part but OMG the driving is tedious to the point of frustration. The weapon balance is kind of odd as well, I can't understand how the MAC-10 seems to be twice as strong as some of the assault rifles. It sure would be nice if they could shift around mission reception/location points to be a whole lot closer to each other with a patch and cut down a lot of this transport time. Tougher vehicles would be nice too, I don't mean from total destruction type of incidents (explosion, driving off a cliff, etc.), but from the I bumped into a tree type of crap and light bullet damage. Playing Wrench Jockey Simulator is getting old.

ya it seems they could have fixed the transport time by just adding an extra bus stop or two in the middle of the maps, rather than having them on the far corners of the map.

Is crashing in DX10 a known/common problem? I've went back and forth between DX9 and 10, using DX10 mode causes the game to simply exit suddenly about every 30 minutes. I've not had a single crash in DX9.

the sniper rifles seem to be the most powerful weapons in the game. The Dragunov is semi auto and kills with one hit at medium difficulty, even in the torso.

I really like it so far, pretty immersive for me. Some complaints about the AI they seem crappy & robotic for the most part. Lots of excellent things about this game, i love it!

I think the reason people here seem to dislike it is because it's being compared to Crysis. They're really different games - I'd say FC2 is more akin to STALKER. Crysis restricted the player a lot and kept you on a relatively linear path, albeit with different ways to approach. In FC2, you can go anywhere on the map and there's not too much direction given to you. As for those complaining about driving everywhere - the buses will take you close to your destination and there's always a car at the bus stops that you can use. There are cars everywhere - just imagine if you had to walk everywhere like in STALKER. And I like the fact that crappy weapons jam - it gives you incentive to buy your own. I also like the buddies that your character has - being rescued by a buddy and continuing in the fight is so much better than "reload last save" every time - it makes Hardcore a lot more fun.

It's also cool how every battle can become quite epic very quickly. I just took one of those "Destroy the convoy" missions. As soon as I blew up the truck with an RPG, enemies just came from everywhere. I died, got rescued by my buddy, and we fought off 3 or 4 cars worth of guys. Really fun to see the aftermath of the battle.

I couldn't agree more. Farcry2 is a lot more like STALKER rather than Crysis but I don't think we should use any of the two to rate the game. We should only consider how fun is it to play actually, regardless of other games. Yes it's not like the first Farcry, yes it's not having better graphics than Crysis, maybe not even close but then again so what.

I like Crysis and I really liked Farcry1(better than Crysis even) and I really enjoyed Farcry2. It may not be original but it's not completely similar to any of the other games. I kinda prefer it that way. What's the point in having two, three or even more games following similar storylines having the same path to clear of aliens or mutants or mercs or NK?

This game gives you A LOT OF OPTIONS and I could probably play it 100 times without exploring all the possibilities. That's what's making it fun and worth buying. I needed a week to finish it on normal difficulty level and I must say the first two days weren't looking good for the game. I'm fed up with Warhead( it's a routine for every1 I think to list it in their schedule...aaa I'm having lunch, taking a nap, playing Warhead(in full), having dinner...) so I decided to keep playing. The game became more and more fun and the weapons got a whole lot better as I progressed.

I've always been a fan of the assault weapons ( AG-36, OICW in the first FC, Scar in Crysis) but the sniper weapons are just a lot better in FC2. I played a lot with the AK-47, it's always highly reliable and very accurate, passed the first sniper rifle that was released(can't remember the name now), changed to Dragunov( very effective in almost any game, starting with Project IGI) and finally got the AS-50, very soon to become my favorite weapon in the FC2 statistics.

I don't quite like the heavy guns, like the SAW and the first time I've tried one in FC2 it didn't tell me much either. Most of the time you are firing towards the sky even in short bursts but in this case this is happening with the weapons that are being dropped by the mercs . Just buy it from the weaponmaster along with the upgrades and your life will change dramatically. I have discovered however the dart rifle that comes in it's place and I have kept it to the end of the game. It's probably the best weapon in the game, limited though by the very small amount of ammo that you're allowed to carry. I could have used it a lot sooner and it might have made my life a lot easier but I didn't.

Regarding the short range weapons, the best I have used was the Uzi, no question about it. Having a better rate of fire than the MAC (not higher, just better) and a nearly medium precission range I have to say it's the only one to have when it's getting crowded around you.

The end of the game is a little unexpected but if you follow the story or read your journal you can probably make up what's coming.

I haven't had any problems with the game even though there were days when I played it continuously for 8-10 hours and had no crashes and no other card related issues. It's a good bet that the drivers newly released for 4800 series made this possible( 8-10).

I have experienced however often crashes with both the Crysis and the Warhead and I still have to check what's happening with the new drivers.

The graphics is simply better on Crysis but Farcry2 is just more playable. I wish they would issue a Crysis with a storyline similar to Farcry2 and things would be perfect.

Like I said I have played it on normal difficulty and didn't experience any x-ray vision enabled mercs nor did I have to replenish the ammo with every step. I'm sure the situation is different for the high difficulty and I'm about to start a new one.

Regarding the speech issue, it's much better than Farcry1, I am playing with v low sound anyway:laugh:.The characters look identical in most of the situations but I guess it's a common flaw of the FPS games nowadays( Crysis wasn't any better, it's like the developers only met two or three Koreans before they started) but then again I got to snipe them from afar and didn't care much if their hair was combed

The distances can be covered in multiple ways as it was already stated in the previous posts. For the N District it's always better to take the bus probably while the boats are fun to use for the S District as they can drop you virtually anywhere you need. If you like to waste time searching the diamonds, go by foot. I only found about 120 briefcases and found out eventually that I'd make a lot more money by taking extra missions. I didn't cover all the mission requests, only the main ones, the buddy missions and several additional(for weapons, for the SAW like voice- lol-and of course for the pills). Maybe it's not so cool looking for diamonds here and there especially when the action is not that rewarding anyway but hey, it's better than searching for frogs like Warhead:disgust:

I'm sure not every1 thinks the same but hey I don't like FIFA, or Basketball or car games for that matter that's why I'm not playing them

I got to 12% and now I'm completely bored with it

Want new weapons.. go blow up the truck being protected by 2 jeeps.

Clear out a merc camp, 10 minutes later it's refilled with guys who will do anything to kill you for some reason.. why am I such a target?

Every task just seems like a rehash of the last.

Respawing badguys is console kiddie $h!t.

To the person that was wanting to go back and get thier pistol when you get rescued by your buddy, you can. I've done it 2 or 3 times now.

Also, I'm about 25% through, and the effects of the malaria do go down. You can sprint much longer, but still not forever. Just some FYI for those that aren't to far along.

I am quite disappointed in the game (PC). I think it's a serious step backwards from the original Far Cry. The only real innovation, is the fire propagation, which is nice. Otherwise, I find it very repetitive, and often downright boring.

Here's how a typical mission goes:

- Attempt to drive from point A to B.
- Be attacked and perused by trucks that seem to come out of nowhere, and you can't outrun them, as theirs seem to be super-charged, and they always catch you.
- Stop and fight the vehicles, or blow up from the barrage of fire coming from the truck that is right on your rear bumper.
- After the attack, you can either take another identical truck, or repair yours, which involves the excitement of pressing "E" to open the hood, and watch the same bolt be turned time and time again.
- Repeat all of the above until you reach your objective, then attack more identical enemies that can take numerous hits, while wearing only a T-shirt.

Other observations:

- The buddy system seems silly. They will show up to help out AFTER you basically died, then they magically arrive out of nowhere to revive you.
- Your character moves around like a morbidly obese individual. Feels like a lumberjack.
- You can't go prone, so sneaking around involves 2/3 of your body sticking up above the grass "gee, hope they don't see me".
- There is not as much freedom as advertised. A lot of the terrain features totally limit your options, and it still feels like you're being funneled to the more open areas, which aren't that large really.
- Weapon jamming could be cool, but it seems like all weapons you pick up will jam, yet they didn't seem to jam for the previous owner. Must have been when they dropped it...
- The GPS range is too short to help navigate in a vehicle, so you use the map, which is even worse, especially when you are under attack from another super-charged truck out of nowhere.
- A fire-fight in town involves an endless horde of spawning bad guys... very exciting.

I'm sure there is some good to the game, but I haven't seen much that meets the expectations. Why this has received such high review scores seems a mystery to me.

Just my two cents worth.

I just got this game today. It feels a lot like Just Cause. All it needs is a grappling hook and some planes.

I'm going to keep playing it, because it is kind of fun, but it just hasn't impressed me. Usually when I get a new game, I just keep wanting to play it, but with this one I could probably go a long time without continuing it and not care too much.

As usual, I'm late to the party. I've had the game more than a week but didn't open it; I wanted to wait for the first patch...which came out today/yesterday.

My little mini-review (if you can call it that) won't even be half as detailed as what's been posted already. But having played thru the "Training Mission" (would be nice if they told you from the start that's what it was) here goes:

THE BAD:
- FOV sucks. It's so damn narrow it gives me a headache! I mean, I've got this huge widescreen monitor (and playing at native 19x12 res) and it looks like my character has blinders on

- The map. What were they thinking? Why mess with the tried and true on-screen HUD type map. Even if they put ALL the legend symbols in there it would still be better than "the map"

- The monocle. An even bigger WTF were they thinking? It's like staring thru a Pringles can with a piece of glass on the end. What happened to pressing "B" for some binoculars and using the scroll wheel to zoom?

- Exciting music cues on gun firing. Middle of nowhere. Shoot crate. Music quickens/drums beat and I'm furiously spinning around waiting for something to jump out of a bush and eat my face. But there's nothing. And music fades away...

- Weapons HUD needs tweaking. What gun am I carrying ATM? I can upgrade at the Arms Dealer, great. What freaking gun do I have in my hands? I guess you have to go by what's unlocked on the screen? That's far from as good as it could be.

- (Been said 100x) Enemy strength needs to be redone. I snuck up on one guy and shot him once in the head with the pistol. Instant kill. I reloaded that scene and emptied a clip from the machine gun into his back and he ran away. Wait....WHAT? Come back here and die, dammit!

So far, that's my bad list. Mainly, it's gameplay mechanics related. I REALLY hate that damn map and monocle!

THE GOOD:
- Game engine seems well optimized! I loaded the game, applied the patch and played. At 19x12, 8xAA ALL details maxxed-out I'm getting no less than 65FPS even during firefights. I'm very happy with this aspect of the game. Of course, I also think this has everything to do with the fact that your field of view is about 1/2 of what it is in say, Crysis. Less screen to render=more FPS

- No crashes, bugs or screen/sound anamolies so far. Everything looks great. It's not Crysis, but it's NOT CRYSIS. It's a different game. Crysis looks better but still runs like crap at high-res on a $2K system.

- I like the cheapie DOS/dialup computer at the Arms Dealer and how you hear the modem and the screen goes monochrome. I DON'T like that I don't have the faintest clue what gun I'm carrying as it doesn't display it as you switch weapons.

- Human models/voice acting seems decent

- World seems huge, but I've noticed that there doesn't seem to be that much ACTUAL area that you can go into. But I've only played the training level.

That's it so far, folks. More later, I'm sure.

CLIFF NOTES:
So far, so good. Socks not blown off. Want to play more after first 1.5 hours of messing with it. Game runs/looks great.
