Whaaaat!
Get the Leadtek. They make higher quality cards than Chaintech, and that one is cheaper to boot!

I would save a few more dollars and get a 6600 gt for around $200, if you must get a 6600 I would go with either. I would choose leadtek for quality, but the chaintek does have 256mb of ram. The extra ram probably will not make much of a difference though, so probably the leadtek as it's cheaper.

You're right. Besides, the extra 128MB of memory won't really help

The extra ram really is not going to help very much. The card just can't make use of that much memory, and it probably will not help you. THe leadtek 6600gt got first for all the 6600gt's, so I would imagine it's going to be just as good as the chaintek with extra ram. The games probably should not have much of a reason as to why you get the card, but you might like them, and if you don't you can always sell them. So, if you were to buy the leadtek you could probably sell the games for around 40-50 bucks, so it would be about $100 total versus $160 total. If you keep the games because you like them, it would be like $150 total versus 210 total (if you bought those games after). Go with the leadtek.

A vanilla 6600 is not going to benefit from an additional 128MB of ram.

Maybe this is too late... and I don't want you to think that getting a 6200 will guarantee you to be able to get performance this high, but I wanted you to be aware that it's possible...
6200 3DMark05 score (overclocked)
Also, check out: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=52765

Keep in mind just because a few people have been able to get performance this high doesn't mean that you will be able to. But there's a good chance!

All the benchmarks for the 6200 are way too low since they don't tap into its untapped potential. If you don't want to o/c at all... get the 6600 Leadtek though.

Let me just add, and I don't know if this makes a difference to you or not, that the Chaintech 6600, which I've been lookign at for awhile actually pondering my next AGP upgrade - is actually $15 MORE than it was exactly one week ago. Something doesn;t seem right there, and I would venture that the price will soon be coming down again after/around CeBit. Of course $15 isn't a lot of money, (though a decent percentage of it's price) so if you want to buy now, now's as good a time as any.

I'm waiting until after CeBit though, hoping ATI's new AGP bridge chip and maybe a new card announcement work to drive prices a little lower.

since both cards are clocked low... it won't make much of a difference how much ram each card has. However, just for style points I would get the Chaintech since it DOES have that 256MB of ram on hand... Then you can mislead all your friends when you say "yahhhh mannng, I got a moga high end card with 256MB of RAM!!!" Enjoi y moi le.

Explain? Why not? From reading some recent reviews, it seems that a 6600 or a pipe-unlocked/overclocked 6200 (same NV43 chip) is at least capable of playing Doom3 at 1024x768 @ 30+ fps. So why not get the extra VRAM, and allow it to load up the higher-quality textures? It shouldn't use any more of the onboard memory bandwidth, should it? It's not like it magically causes one to enable AA or something, that would indeed added to the memory-bandwidth demands. (Nor would extra memory allow one to enable AA either, and retain the same level of performance.)

As far as I can see, more onboard texture-storage = a good thing, no matter how you look at it, and memory-bandwidth vs. memory-size are more-or-less orthagonal quantities. Correct me if I'm wrong, of course.
