Yeah. The vet did a mastectomy and the biopsy came back malignant. The vet told me that that kind of cancer is extremely agressive, so even though they hoped they got the whole thing it probably already spread.Originally posted by: jaysgirl
my cat's getting older, too, and i think about that a lot.
have you taken her to the kitty vet? i guess there's not much you can do, it seems that most older cats seem to die from cancer

Only a matter of time now.

Be good to your little friend in need... make her final days full of love
Sad, sad, sad, indeed. Savor each lick, they are gifts freely given from this beautiful universe.Originally posted by: Wag
Sigh. She's in her last days now. Probably a few months left at most. Just sits in my lap most of the time and even licks my face, something she never did before.
So sad.

This thread makes me sad. The cat I grew up with was the sweetest cat ever, always following everyone around like a puppy and never aloof or bitchy. He was incredibly in-tune to emotions, too--when someone in the house was upset, without fail he'd find them and insist on purring in their lap until they cheered up.
He was 18, and had developed some sort of intestinal problem that the vet couldn't fix. It was only a matter of time. Unfortunately, my family had a vacation planned shortly thereafter. While we were on vacation we got a call from the person taking care of the house and feeding the cats that she came in one morning to find him curled up on the doormat just inside the front door, waiting for someone to come home--dead.
Peepers sounds our 20+ year old Calli. She was a young stray when we took her in 20 years ago this 4th of July. She hated men but loved my wife, boys and our elderly dog. She even use to groom Tobby when she got too old to care for herself.Originally posted by: LookingGlass
I am having my cat Peepers, put down this Saturday. She's old, weighs less than 5 pounds now, the vet thinks she has kidney failure. She's been going to the bathroom outside the box. She is half blind. Her fur looks terrible. But when you hold her, she still purrs away, and she rubs on your arm. Still giving you love, even though she is going down hill, I'll never forget her.

Over the years she has come to accept me as her care giver. I'm now the one she comes to for treats and TV company. She's getting thin and wobbly lately. She can't get on the couch unless I give her a boost. She also looks after our younger cat Pocket-Rocket and makes sure that she gets her treats as well.
After Tobby died I never thought that I would get close to another pet. But this one has my heart and I know I will take it badly whenever her maker calls her home.
I wish you well on your coming loss.

Cats are pricks and they act like spoiled teenages. But when they realize they won't live forever they want to spend time with those they love before they die. I think this cancer was a wake up call for the cat. It's just sad that the cat didn't return your love earlier in it's life. My advice is just for the two of you to live it up together before the cat's time runs out.....perhaps we could learn something from this cat.

TY FlashG, your Calli sounds like my Peeps. She too was a stray that we adopted, or do they adopt us. She would sit in a plant barrell outside the living room window, and *peep* in the window. That's how she got her name.
Animals have a way of getting under your skin, and into your heart. Take care of Calli, she is lucky to have a owner like you.
