You guys are repeating the talking points without understanding the whole story. Of course the Republicans did not introduce a Draft bill before the election. That would have been politically stupid. That does NOT mean they won't call for a draft after the election. Many people believe a draft will be necessary -- NECESSARY -- if Bush continues on his current course. Right or wrong, they do not see how we can possibly maintain our current military activities on the backs of Guardsmen and Reservists.

Rangel & Co. introduced the Draft bill to force this issue into the public eye. They want Bush and the Republican Congress-critters on the record as saying there will be no draft. It may not stop the Draft -- again, many feel there will be no viable alternatives -- but it gives the Dems ammunition in 2006 and 2008, and helps ensure Bush & Co. won't rush to institute a draft.

Sure is a lot of conjecture there.

after we loose a major metropolitan area to a nuclear blast, lets see how fast we get a draft!

I'd be willing to bet substancially on a major, paradigm shifting terrorist attack on american soil within the next 18 months that will dwarf the 9/11 attacks. I plan on visitin New York this Christmas and Washington in the spring.... I would not be surprised at all if one wasn't there by the end of the presidency

1 container. 1 truck. 1 scared shitless congress. 1 draft: all thanks to 1 bad administration having 0 intelligent foreign policy.

Believe it or not, this FUD campaign by the most extreme of the extreme left was shot down as congress brought it to a vote and it was soundly defeated because it was tripe.
We have adequate troop levels and recruiting is not a problem.
But hey - if this FUD helps you sleep at night - then hey - have at it -but please use the search function first.

Bin Laden suggested he would not attack states that voted against Bush. I would think cities in Florida or Texas are more at risk, or perhaps Ohio since they put him over the top. I just hope our homeland security is tighter than it appears so we can prevent it.

Do you have a husband or b/friend? Do you have sons or a brother? Do you have male friends?

Of course it will effect you!

As a mother this war concerns and worries me and it outrages me that for the toll our troops have already paid that we aren't securing totally free oil/gas for this nation!

how about a more gas effiicient car ?

Is this why chet culver is being so stubborn on the vote count....or is it that he's a partisan hack.

That's my prediction too. al-Qaeda already hit us in a symbolic way, by taking down the WTC. Their next attack will have one sole purpose: brutality.

I'm afraid to think what kind of decision Bush&Co. will make if we do get nuked and there is no country like Afghanistan to place the blame on.

Well there wasn't a country to attack right after Afghanistan, but lo and behold......Iraq, front and center.

Don't put ANYTHING beyond this administration. The monkey in charge has a Republican Congress and no inhibitions that a first term president may have.

I'm pretty sure a draft is not needed. Major reorganization is already in progress within the military. And, if there ever was a need, can't Congress just vote to expand the military by say 100k to 200k? I'm pretty sure recruitment numbers will be met. It's only the reserves that are not meeting their goals... Also, if an attack on Iran were to happen, can't Israel take em' out easy as sH!T?

This is my favorite tactic ever. Any response is invalid because it bumps the thread

I'll have to remember to dig up this thread with all the naysayers when it happens. And I'm fairly certain it will. All you BAA's with the blinders on are about to fall off a cliff.

The problem is that once Israel gets involved in any military action against Iran, Iran isn't the only country they'll have to worry about. Things get worse *if* Iran gets nukes, because the square mileage of Iran vs. Israel is vastly different.

Iran is not going to have nukes, Israel would blow em up already.
On another note... do you think Bush will possibly try a diplomatic route since he fvcked up hard in Iraq?

Granted, this is not a logical choice in any way, I just suspect that's a position we'll take before getting into a long, drawn-out war with another country.

You believe that? we've got plenty of our own citizens who've been priced out of health insurance who can't afford routine care and medications but we're pumping lots of free medical care and relief over to Irag's, many of whom would gladly cut our throats if given half a chance.
