A friend of mine raises some heifers as a side hustle so for the past couple of years I've bought beef from him. I pay him for the beef and then the meat locker for the processing fee. It's some of the best beef I've ever tasted.

If anyone is interested here are the cuts we bought.

190 pounds of home grown beef packed up in three boxes.

Here's a pic of the ribeye.

nice, that's gotta be at least a couple alternators

what's he do, sell the heifers to dairies and get the steers butchered?

Ha! You lost me with that question. My experience with agriculture pretty much begins and ends with horticulture. I leave the animal husbandry side of things to people with way more knowledge about it then I do.

Oof, those ground packages are huge. I have mine all done in 1lb packages.

Definitly nice to have a freezer full of meat.

I took a year off of raising steers this year. Probably get a coupke calves in the spring.

ah np, i was just curious since you mentioned it was heifers

i guess if it's a beef-only operation maybe both the steers and heifers get butchered. supposedly there's almost no difference in quality.

back when i was on the farm we always kept the heifers alive and butchered the steers, but that could've been because we were milking. in 4H the beef cattle were almost always steers too, but occasionally someone would bring in a heifer.

now everyone has great expectations for steak pics!

I have a 1/4 in my freezer from an 18 month old Angus heifer. It's very good, and only just over 4 bucks a pound also. I prefer my ground in 1# increments and my roasts 3-4#, steaks around an inch any thicker and it's harder to cook them imho.

These alternators are as big or bigger than a beef. Do they count as bulk?
