Travelers' angst is being taken up a notch now that TSA agents are adding yet another seemingly arbitrary security check at airports.

The federal agency is now deploying its staff to test beverages purchased by travelers after they were screened at the security checkpoint.

Video from the Columbus, Ohio Airport, uploaded to YouTube on Monday, show security personnel canvassing a departure gate, asking people at random if they could check their drinks for explosives

Security theatre. They're breaking everyone in to the new reality. Airports are just the start. You'll soon have to run this gauntlet when going to the local mall, or sporting event. Cameras are being placed for "your protection", and all the data you create will be stored indefinitely by the government to protect you from the "evil terrorists". Oh, you encrypt your data? We're still saving that, and we'll be reading it all 10 years when we have the technology to break the encryption...

I'm pretty sure someone willing to blow themselves up is willing to chug an ounce of whatever the stuff is.

Reminds me of the scene in The Heist when Gene Hackman smuggles a gun in his coffee. Puts it in a baggy down in the coffee and passes it around the metal detector.

Last two times I travelled TSA pulled out random people at the gate for another security screening. Much more invasive than the xray machines. They literally went through our carry-on bags.

I smoked from 1999-2007. I lost count of the number of times I walked onto an airplane with a lighter in my pocket or in my carry-on bag. I saw they took lighters off the verboten list a few years ago - I suspect it had less to do with them not being potentially dangerous and more to do with them not being detectable. Now that they're OK, the TSA can't get egg on its face for failing to stop them from getting on airplanes.

it had to do with they didnt know what the hell to do with 10 of thousands of lighters. they took lighters off the list because it was inconvenient for the TSA to warehouse.

i would....but id rather just go places within driving distance. my buddy is a travelling consultant, i dont know how he puts up with it. air travel is one of the most amazing things we have access to and the awesomeness of it has been fucked over pretty thoroughly.
