Public schools belong to folks who are NRA members as much as folks who are not.

I'm not a real NRA fan and have never been a member, but when I hear some of the arrogance and stupid arguments in threads like this one it makes me want to write a check.

I firmly believe Trump was elected because those who consider themselves more enlightened or progressive (or whatever) vilified the opposition until that opposition got pissed off enough to fuck things up for us all. Didn't that teach us anything?

so would you say this to all the other interest and or lobbying groups looking to contribute funds to various districts or agencies? why should the NRA donate funds for school supplies? and by extension then why shouldn't other groups? seems like a double standard.

That's why I said I don't expect the NRA to donate for anything other than gun related activities.

As I mentioned before, competitive target shooting is currently an Olympic event, do we not want to remain competitive of which nations compete on a global scale (hence the Olympics)...do we not want to encourage people to be educated about proper firearm safety in a regulated and controlled environment?? its funny as those calling for enhanced controls are typically pretty quick to bleat on and on about how they don't want to take "all guns away" and how they are all for more training, until they aren't which is clearly evident here.

School shootings are clearly not as big an issue in other countries as it is in the US. Wanna take a guess as to why that is? (hint: it's not something that will be solved by introducing kids to shooting sports)

False. Residents elect school committees, which determine the allocation of budgets. Public schools belong to tax payers. Students, parents and teachers are stakeholders to those decisions, and provide recommendations to the electorate for their consideration.

The idea that there are voters basing their choice on spite (or an equally childish emotional reaction) is a pretty solid argument for getting rid of democracy, I have to say, and a heck of an accusation to point at all Trump voters.

However IMO the reality is still pretty disturbing: When you can be voted in as President despite or because you regularly spew hateful bile, that society has problems.

I'm not going to do the semantics dance with you over who public schools "belong" to. My point is that NRA members have as much right to decide what goes on in schools as non-NRA members do. In a democratic society all votes are afforded the same value, and there are a bunch of parent, student and teacher NRA members.

And I guess you are missing my point that vilifying your opposition does NOTHING to foster any kind of compromise or discussion. All it does is piss the other side off and make them fight harder. Nobody was ever insulted into being reasonable, assuming that's what the anti-gun side wants.

While it's probably the best system around, I'm not a huge fan of democracy. It's allows every idiot to have a voice which usually results in two sides squabbling over ideology and getting noting productive done. That isn't necessarily a bad thing since few problems can be solved by applying blind ideology. Real solutions are usually more complex.

So what system is better than democracy? If "the people" aren't competent enough, then who do we invest with the power to make the right decision when we can't arrive their via reason and compromise? The average voter isn't known for their logic or reason, let alone any real concern extending beyond themselves and maybe their family.

The only part of The Bible that makes me even remotely believe it's the true word of some higher, wiser being is Jeremiah 10:23: "O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps." Even The Bible thinks we are a bunch of idiots.

You can't apologize and hurl insults in the same breath and expect to be taken seriously. And I can't see a civil war ever happening over gun control.
