Are they using the alien's telepathy to manipulate everyone at the same time or just a few people at a time? How far away does an alien have to be from a person for that to work? Does it take one alien per person, or can one alien manipulate several people? Why don't they just manipulate the government people and take over? Can we really say this is a government conspiracy if the people in the government are all under telepathic alien mind control? That would be more like an alien invasion wouldn't it? Why am I not surprised you have issues with reading comprehension? Lemme break down my timeline, this time with bullet points.

1. Sherman does actual spy stuff in the 90's, and hears about or is involved with a program like Sentry Eagle, or maybe SE itself.
2. Sherman leaves and/or is kicked off the spy stuff, and goes on to write a book involving a program structured just like Sentry Eagle, aliens, and aluminum foil hats.
3. Here in the present Snowden's leaks continue to trickle in, and we hear about Sentry Eagle being a real thing and structured as Sherman said his alien program was. Regardless, there is nothing in those documents about aliens, nor is Sherman's project name mentioned.

So one detail of Sherman's story is now substantiated. It just happens to be a detail that isn't very far-fetched since anyone with decent clearance ought to at least have an idea of their program's overall structure, even if practically all the specifics are still classified to them. Him being right about the broad outline of a real program proves nothing but that he is a former intelligence analyst, which was already known. Anything beyond that is just you filling in the blanks with what you want to be true.

While I think it's a certainty there is abundant intelligent life in the universe, given its size statistically it's almost a certainty, I don't think aliens advanced enough to have solved finding a travel method that overcomes the great distances would have interest in coming here.

Beyond simple curiosity and wanting to study us like we study bugs in a container, we would have nothing to offer a species that advanced. And if they did just want to 'check us out', no doubt they could do it without us even knowing it was happening.

Any time you're tempted to say "I'm not X, but..." just stop talking and think for a moment, because that's cognitive dissonance talking. (See also: "I'm not a racist, but...") You went straight from that to filling in the blanks with what you want to be true. All the NSA leaks prove is that our nation is run by assholes and big brother types.

re: other intelligent life in the universe, yeah it's probably out there... somewhere. But as was already said, anyone that has the ability to travel the stars probably wouldn't give a shit about us, and if they did they'd get rid of us with almost as much trouble as we get rid of an ant colony. We do all kinds of things to ants; we poison them, light them on fire, study them, and sometimes take casts of their nests. Do we build little ant robots to infiltrate their nests, or develop pheromones to make them build the way we want to? No, that would be a huge waste of time. If we were being messed with by aliens we'd know it, because it would be Battlefield Earth style, minus the plucky human resistance.

The US government isn't doing jack shit with aliens because there are not any aliens. All this leak "proves" is that the US is wasting money on complete bullshit on the one in a trillion chance that maybe it could be weaponized someday. Of course they have a program that would attempt to communicate with aliens. It also has departments that look into death rays, cybernetic supersoldiers and attempts to see if plankton is sentient and can be trained to hunt enemy submarines. Hell, "The Men Who Stare at Goats" was based on a real freaking program to attempt to develop mind weapons like "Scanners". The fact that a program exists to try something stupid in no way, shape or form proves that the stupid thing they're looking at is real or even remotely plausible. All it proves is that the military has almost unlimited funds and almost zero oversight and that they'll try anything to keep the pork rolling in and to keep themselves employed. There are no freaking aliens. The program, if it really exists, is probably a bunch of guys in lab coats sitting around in an underground bunker trying to mind-meld with mushrooms and see if they can somehow communicate with shrubbery to see if they feel pain when they're trimmed. Attempting new forms of communication does not mean they have a bank of little green men with wires in their brains. That's something that idiots have completely invented.

There can be little doubt that there are programs the government doesn't want us to know about and this particularly with the NSA. The one program might be hidden within another program is also of no great surprise.

that being said, considering the budget of these black ops programs are essentially unlimited, why not throw in a little alien communications program (High budget SETI) for good measure. After all, if there is something valuable to be found/learned from listening to signals from space aliens, you can bet that the US would be the ones to want to detect and decipher said signals. Absent data the reasonable hypothesis is that circumstances here on Gaia Earth are close to the mean. The least reasonable, raving lunatic idea is that Earth is W-A-Y out there 5+ standard deviations away from the mean… “special.” That’s irrational, not defensible, is just for popular mass consumption by bovine idiots and jehova witnesses. Science knows the law of large numbers (billions or maybe trillions of planets) means the only rational concept is that any phenomenon in our experience is distributed across the numbers.

We have to speculate because we don’t have data to estimate what mathematics the distribution follows, how life may be distributed among the vast-beyond-imagining numbers of worlds, in this dimension of reality, which is perhaps merely one nit among a vast population of alternative realities in a vast cosmos. String theory and Brane cosmology and people like Lisa Randall etc. speculate about cosmologies like that.

Within this cosmos (just our dimension), we’re forced to guess because we have no data (but the US Government probably does). The most rational guess is that life follows some distribution, is scattered across the many worlds according to some distribution describable by math. Since we’re forced to guess because we the civilians have no data, the best we can do, the most rational GUESS, is that life follows the normal distribution (z curve) across the planets and dimensions.

It’s irrational, indefensible, nearly to the point of a mental illness, to claim “I’m from Missouri and deny all until you show me, we are alone, special creation!” Your Science education has already showed you, by demonstrating that pretty much everything follows a distribution. Intelligent life too!. Especially contemplating billions or trillions of planets in this dimension alone, maybe one miniscule nit in a tremendous cloud comprised of trillions upon trillions of alternative dimensions.

And remember, our dimension is more than the physical cosmos. It's also all the sights, sounds, emotions, thoughts, experiences, etc....that's ALL merely ONE dimension in the vast universe.
