My roommate just got an overwhelming load of job offers this week.... goddamn lucky bastard. He's some type of computer engineering with software/computer security background or something.

So, he was offered a job at the NSA, Google, and Microsoft and is very undecided. He wasn't expecting to get offers from all 3 or even 2. Which one would offer the best job security at the end?

Google. He won't commit suicide for his crimes against America like he would be compelled to do at the NSA.

I guess it was kinda obvious that the government would provide the better job security

We don't know what you're talking about. But, we know where you live....mwuhahaha!!

Srsly, NSA. Once you're in gvmt contracting or CS, you're almost set for job security for life. And they pay decent.

Not to mention great benefits, and great retirement options.

NSA for job security until Google takes over the government. Google seems like a better company to work for.

You guys are using "job security" to overshadow all of the cool spy/surveillance tech he will have access to working at the NSA.

NSA FTW.

I'm going to assume it is a conditional job offer from the NSA. If that is the case, then he won't actually have a job there for about eight or nine months due to having to get the TS clearance. He should start working at Google and then transfer to the NSA when he gets his clearance, assuming he will still want to work there and assuming the job is still open for him.

Agreed. A lot of you folks seem to think a job with the NSA = James Bond ******.

Not even close.

Has your friend compared the two work environments? I can't imagine a federal building being a better work environment than Google's campus.

Civil service IT for the federal government is pretty sweet. The pay is good, maybe not as good as private industry, but the benefits and job security kick ass.

That depends on what kind of government agency you work for. If you work for the IT department for podunktown, USA there might not be much room for advancement, but in other places it's all about how hard you want to work just like anywhere else.
