Explain why his comment is pathetic. Arguably, it is insensitive, but the national cancer institute receives less than 1% what the US military receives in funding, despite cancer assuredly affecting, directly or at the furthest a family member, basically everybody at some point in their life and terrorism affecting a minuscule fraction as many people. US' priorities are totally out of whack on where money goes.

He thinks I'm pathetic because Americans are pussies. They don't like the uncomfortable, which is also why people LegendKiller believe we should invalidate the constitution and waste hundreds of billions of dollars to prevent make believe events.

What would you consider Constitutional? Would FISA be Constitutional? Would you be satisfied with having Congressional oversight?

Yes, they did a super job at protecting the rights of blacks, women and guarding the country against government that can procure nuclear weapons and an economy that depends on global integration.

Guess we should go back to pig farming and nail making and be utter failures at that, like Thomas Jefferson was.

This is the problem with e-anarchists, they sit around pining for a world in which they'd hate but think is an utter utopia.

Oh the irony. You do realize that you are the one arguing that the rule of law should be ignored and we are arguing that the rule of law should be followed, right?

No can explain how this phone record program is illegal. Remember data is only being gathered. Actual individual warrants are still needed to view the data.

Seems to me that data showing who you called, the date you called, your location when calling and the duration of your call is all personal information subject to the 4th amendment.

If this has already been ruled on by the SCOTUS and found to be 'reasonable', and therefore OK under the Constitution, can someone please link the case.

TIA

The Judicial branch has already approved for the mass collection of phone metadata.

Which part of the judicial branch are you referring to?

Is it a court case?

If so, please link.

What law was broken?

To most it would seem to "break" the 4th amendment.

But before getting too much into that issue I think we need to know, to verify, what exactly is being gathered on US citizens by the NSA. Other NSA whistle blowers claim that the NSA is collecting much more than just phone meta data on US citizens.

While I believe that collecting and storage of meta phone data is technically a violation of the 4th, I can imagine it being found a reasonable exception under the Constitution. However, I believe that collecting and storing information on credit card purchases, emails, internet searches, social media (Facebook and whatnot) of US citizens is clearly in violation of the 4th.

The 4th is pretty clear:

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

your rights weren't violated because you cant prove your info was taken.

The government wont tell you if they have your info because that's classified.

Fleeing the US means he's open to being hit by a drone. That's already been established for American threats to the US of A existing outside of the USA.
The US have the tendency to bully some backwater third world countries with its weapons, but China is far from being a third world country that couldn't detect and eliminate threads on it soil. Unless the US want to start World War III.

The guy is going to be arrested. I have no idea why he thought Hong Kong would be a good place to find sanctuary. It is a money-driven state with an extradition treaty with the U.S... very unlikely they will not cooperate with the U.S.

I think he would have been much better off in Europe, possibly France. The EU politicians will have to have faux outrage at the U.S. for spying on their citizens.

You are the one that needs to get a fucking clue. Wanna know what your chances are of being killed by a terrorist? Something like 1 in a 100 fucking million. That is 1/100,000,000 now lets do some comparison shall we.

Chances of being struck by lightning in the US: 1/1,000,000

Chances of being killed by lightning in the US: 1/10,000,000

Odds of being killed by falling out of bed - 1/2,000,000

Odds of being killed in a plane crash -1/25,000,000

So please excuse me if being killed by a terrorist isn't really all that high on my list of things that are so absurdly scary that we should be giving up our civil liberties to "protect us from". Its complete bullshit designed to terrify people like you into accepting shit like this because the fact of the matter is you are 50 times more likely to be struck by fucking lightning than killed by a terrorist.

He is obviously a moron. He voted for a '3rd party candiate", most likely Ron Paul. Like most RPbots he has no concept of reality. He's a HS dropout who somehow rose high enough to get access to some info.

He isn't a sheep like you who blindly follows obama. He understands reality unlike you. When the government is spying on American citizens then it must be exposed.

I noticed he wants to go to Iceland because they share common values:

I take that to mean he is a rabid Anti-Semite.

Remember Iceland is run and overflowing with Antisemitism. This is a country which protects, praises and supports a man who has called for the killing of all the Jews. A man who thinks Hitler was a hero. A country in which each Christmas Anti Jewish Hymns are played by the government over the public air. When a man in public states that the Jews all need to be killed, the people around him cheer. This is a country were the majority support holocaust.

Yeah, a "sheep". He is just as much of a sheep as anybody else. Slavish adherence to RP's bigotry and anarchism is nothing more than being a sheep to a different shepherd. Libertopianism is a joke played upon an unthinking flock, just as much as slavish adherence to R or D is.

Looks like the most relevant Supreme Court case is Clapper v. Amnesty International USA which upheld the FISA amendments by a 5-4 vote.

Majority: Alito, joined by Roberts, Scalia, Kennedy, Thomas

Justice Samuel Alito wrote that the parties' fear of being surveilled when the U.S. government targets foreign terrorists was "highly speculative."

Here is what the four judges said in dissent:
[fn3] The dissent attempts to downplay the safeguards established by § 1881a. See post, at 4 (opinion of BREYER, J.). Notably, the dissent does not directly acknowledge that § 1881a surveillance must comport with the Fourth Amendment, see § 1881a(b)(5), and that the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court must assess whether targeting and minimization procedures are consistent with the Fourth Amendment, see § 1881a(i)(3)(A).

What are you mad about? That the govt is spying on us or this guy outed them for doing it?
This thread has been very amusing watching you flail about how this guy is endangering americans and terrorists want to kill us because we are #1. You sound like a neocon from 2002-03.

you think this was limited to terrorists? You don't think they were trying to go after any enemies of the state?

The reasons for them wanting us dead are multiple and most of it comes back to us being #1. Bin Laden's original reason was because we were in SA after they shunned him. Why were we in SA? To protect our petro monopoly so that all of the freedom loving 'Muricans can buy their POS Exploder/Expedition/Excursion/Tahoe/Suburban SUV. Our economy is built on the abundance of cheap energy, hence, we are #1 because of the dollar, economic, and military hegemony. They want to kill us for various reasons around that but ultimately it is because of that.

You can deny that all you want or claim that I am some neocon, but ultimately that is what it boils down to.

Nation-states want the same thing. Do you think China, the middle kingdom, wants to play second fiddle to us? Do you think Iran wants to be blocked from getting rid of Israel or from bullying Iraq, or even SA?
