If you are reading to this point but haven't seen the video, go watch he video.

Number of critical points this young man brought up. The most unsettling was how ones history can be dug through in order to paint suspicion and from an innocent life and then they've got unlimited power to get you or throw you under the bus.

Like he said, worst thing that could come from the knowledge he shared is for nothing to change.

Should be locked up. Period.
What he did was treason regardless of your view on the NSA surveillance program.

That guy's a hero.
A true hero. I'd be pretty fuckin' special if I were half as good as him.
If the surveillance is Legal, like the government claims...

Anything you like is legal when you write, pass, and enforce the laws. Legal doesn't make right. That statement is a red herring designed to deflect attention from the real issues. Don't let them distract you with bullshit.

and this concludes my first, and most likely last post in this disgraceful cesspool of a subforum...

I have to agree with you on this. You DO NOT reveal classified information, whether you agree with it or not...especially if you've been a CIA employee.

I'll actually be surprised if the guy makes it to trial...but rather, just disappears, never to be seen again.

Yep. It sucks for him but it is not up to him to determine what is "legal" and "illegal" or "right" and "wrong".

Nope... not up to him at all.

...and we note the people running the three branches of our government are Lawyers, far more than any other profession.

He's screwed... the only questions now are "how hard" and "how long".

I'd call it a calculated decision that the government would figure it out sooner or later.

He should be protected by force. Period.
America stands for civil liberties, for freedom and transparency, or it does not stand at all.

I vehemently object to opposition to this young man. America needs to stand with him and use the information he revealed to dismantle dragnet programs. We need to restore the Bill of Rights.

America needs a 21st century Civil Liberties campaign.

Um it most certainly is up to us to determine right/wrong. Just because something is a law doesn't make it just and just because something isn't against the law doesn't make it right.

The NSA and all these other jokers are the ones that should be shut down and the people in charge tried for treason. The Constitution trumps all and these people might as well have thrown it in the shredder.

I agree with this. His moving to Hong Kong at least shows that he understands the gravity of the situation.

Maybe he should have finished High School.....

Adds credence to it.

Case in point, this very moment on CNN is headline news with this heading:

NSA leaker fears for democracy

And how the guy feels this is an existential threat to democracy.

I'm certain he agreed to follow protocol and keeps secrets, well, secret while he was cashing his pay check every week.

So what trumps what an oath to a secret or an oath to a law when that secret is in contradiction to it?

Actually by coming forward, he makes it harder for them to do away with him without notice. Now if simething happens to him, people will suspect foul play

Keeping your promise that you wouldn't move yourself to another country and talk to a foreign press about secrets that you were sworn to secrecy to protect....

This guy did what he had to do. It's a catch 22 to say he should have followed laws when everything he believes in is being destroyed in secret because in secret is the only way everything he believes in can be destroyed.

He had to get the secrets out for public awareness and debate. If he had to break the law to do so, he made the right choice.

Has the law been broken?

He should have never come forward, this changes the debate from the data gathering program of the us citizens. To what should we do with the person who revealed it.
