If Obama is smart he'll immediately change his tune about this scandal and start talking about the power of the American people, the right to privacy and the President serving the people and responding to their wishes.

He'd issue Snowden a full presidential pardon, host him at the White House with a welcome back ceremony, be seen with him everywhere trumpeting the change an individual can make when they stand for right in the face of impossible odds, issue an order to everyone that Snowden should be left entirely alone, etc.

Since that's not going to happen, what do we as the American people do to protect Snowden? I, for one, am grateful for the incredible sacrifice he's made of living in safety, of living in his own country, of being with his family and friends, of living out his career path, everything. What do we do to help encourage him to come home, out of foreign arms, and know he's safe from assassination or imprisonment?

No can explain how this phone record program is illegal. Remember data is only being gathered. Actual individual warrants are still needed to view the data.

Yep. It sucks for him but it is not up to him to determine what is "legal" and "illegal" or "right" and "wrong".

Blowing the whistle on an illegal activity is not a crime. Participating in that activity is.

What you advocate sounds dangerously like a twist on "Yes we knew it was wrong, but we were just following orders".

"A really efficient totalitarian state would be one in which the all-powerful executive of political bosses and their army of managers control a population of slaves who do not have to be coerced, because they love their servitude.

...developing, under the need for efficiency and stability, into the welfare-tyranny of Utopia. "

Don't let facts get in the way of mindless hysteria. The so-called War on Drugs has done far more harm to the average American's freedoms than this NSA program yet you don't hear any politicians wringing their hands about that.

So let say they do, how can the data be used? Just having a huge amount of data on everyone should be very scary.

We get a Governor to order state national guard to protect him. Feds say "hand him over", State tells Feds to go !@#$ themselves.

In short, if the Feds will not do right, a State must secede to do right.

Should be locked up. Period.
What he did was treason regardless of your view on the NSA surveillance program.

founding fathers were would have been accused of treason too if they lost the war.

See, this is the deflection now. It's horrible that he leaked this information!!!! It's illegal!!!!

All in an effort to drive the discussion away from what the NSA and US Government is doing.

By law, NSA's intelligence gathering is limited to foreign communications...

...the Obama administration is defending this surveillance. A senior official in the Administration stated that these programs "comply with the Constitution" and "appropriately protect privacy and civil liberties."

They're wrong.

It's time for a full accounting of America's secret spying programs—and an end to unconstitutional surveillance...

Join EFF in calling for a full investigation by emailing Congress today.

What laws did the leaker break or what laws did the US government break in all this?

I must have drank a lot more whiskey than I thought.

Let's go the US "goverment." Seems like they've signed a blank check back in 2008.... and it's been cashed in....

What law have they broken now?
