Inform me. Enlighten me. Tell me of the laws broken, then suck on that which you've bought to pass...

Supreme law of the land, not very long and even you should be able to comprehend all of the words.

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourth_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution#cite_note-1

1. Don't talk down to me.
2. Have these actions been passed down into law....?
3. Don't come crying when those in power implement the powers given..

I love how everybody thinks they are recording everything and are all-seeing yet they cannot use this awesome power to solve everything immediately.

As far as this guy being a "hero", get a fucking clue. We live in a world where people want to kill us for nothing more than being who we are. You can claim that it's because we trample them under but in reality everything you have, everything this country was built on, everything you see, is because of what we have done. If you have a problem with your cheap oil, your nice computer, your 1st world way of life, then go live in the woods grizzly adams style.

This is reality, people want to kill us for any number of reasons.

You are the one that needs to get a fucking clue. Wanna know what your chances are of being killed by a terrorist? Something like 1 in a 100 fucking million. That is 1/100,000,000 now lets do some comparison shall we.

Chances of being struck by lightning in the US: 1/1,000,000

Chances of being killed by lightning in the US: 1/10,000,000

Odds of being killed by falling out of bed - 1/2,000,000

Odds of being killed in a plane crash -1/25,000,000

So please excuse me if being killed by a terrorist isn't really all that high on my list of things that are so absurdly scary that we should be giving up our civil liberties to "protect us from". Its complete bullshit designed to terrify people like you into accepting shit like this because the fact of the matter is you are 50 times more likely to be struck by fucking lightning than killed by a terrorist.

1. Don't talk down to me.

Stop giving me a very easy reason to.

2. Have these actions been passed down into law....?

I posted the supreme law of the land for you. Unless there has been a constitutional amendment nullifying what I just posted the law simply isn't lawful.
3. Don't come crying when those in power implement those powers given..

Said power has not been given regardless if they, or you, wrongfully think it is.

If you would like I can send you my daughters old 5th grade civics textbook so that you can get a better understanding of the topic you are discussing.

You think our biggest fear is a terrorist? LOL.

I am not hugely worried about a single terrorist, nor even smaller networks. I am worried about entire organizations backed by nation-states.

We live in a world where people want to kill us for nothing more than being who we are.

But your solution to change who we are-a culture that respects transparacy and privacy- won't work. They don't hate those things and it won't stop them.

As long as we live in a world where some people have more power and wealth than others, people will die. That is humanity at its core.

We hate terrorist attacks the most because they make us feel vulnerable, but no nation in the history of the planet has had one tenth the power we have with so little blood sacrifice from our citizenry to maintain that power.

Terrorism is a pressure valve to that-block it in one place and the steam will get out somewhere else. The only solution is raising the living standard of every person in the world via technology so every individual has skin in the game of the modern world. That might be impossible.

All the big brother in the world can't destroy jealousy, hate and ignorance. Big brother can only destroy the freedoms and privacy that are the core of the American life.

If you feel the American life needs to be destroyed that is a different argument with many sympathetic ears. But that should be decided in the court of public opinion and not a confidential presidential staff meeting.

Owned. Good job. I can't believe there are still people who think what happened is alright and defend obama. It's pathetic.

So what is your solution? Open the borders, stop all surveillance and allow them to pick off who they want, when they want, how they want?

Making the bar higher weeds out as much as possible.

The Congress has the power to add to the first 10 amendments, however they cannot change the first 10 or abridge the protections and powers of the first 10 amendments.

The 4th states :

"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.[1]"

Since you seem to be a bit critical thought challenged, the part here that was broken:

"...no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

And you are willing to give up civil liberties in order to protect us from said threat that has yet to be even close to as dangerous to us as lightning? Why?

How about we make a very rational compromise.

Whatever our solution is must conform to the constitution? Either that isn't possible in your mind or the threat is so severe that we must throw those unnecessary rights away to guard us from a threat that has yet to be very threatening.

Matter of fact, the only thing that terrorism against the US has been successful at is terrifying people like you and giving our government an excuse to deprive us of liberty. I am in no way making light of the people killed by terrorist acts but the fact is the numbers are statistically irrelevant.

FYI the government didn't classify this information, so the american people wouldn't know. It classified it, so the terrorist wouldn't know.

The government is trying to protect you.

How do you change with time to make sure the constitution isn't a death pact?

You think that this was only used against terrorists?

No. I advocate reasonable protections that are decided on by the American people in the court of public opinion.

This stuff being secret saved no one. If terrorists are too stupid to not assume anything but burner phones and encrypted messages are being looked at then they are amateurs that will be caught and punished within the traditional legal process (ala Boston bombers).

Making the bar higher weeds out as much as possible.

Make it too high and you lose the essence of our free culture.

We need balance.

Sure because giving over all our phone records and emails will protect us if a nation attacks.

What protects America is two things:

1. We spend more on our military than the rest of the world combined.

2. Our culture via Hollywood, corporate franchises, and brand power makes it so "they" aren't so different than "us" over time.

Hard power and soft power is all that matters. Everything else is illusion.

So you think opening all of the "secret" programs into the public realm will help keep us safe?

I am assuming that you also think that corporate boards should release complete transcripts of all meetings to public investors. After all, why shouldn't investors know exactly what is going on with their company?

As a soldier, I don't find it disrespectful at all. Please do not presume to speak for us, thanks.

I am much more concerned about your apparent lack of respect for our Bill of Rights...

Lol at tanks.

If a major army/navy attacks us we know via satellite.

If a individual deranged person or a small group of people wants to kill others then all the surveillance won't help. Tons of cameras at Boston marathon and it only helped after the fact.

Yup. We don't need every detail. But we need to decide together on the big stuff.

If that is the tradition of that company sure. Transparacy and privacy are American traditions, so that should be our priority in policy.
