I think it's pretty ironic that an American who tries to defend fellow Americans flees to China for political asylum.

Wouldn't have expected that kind of reversal of roles.

Could give us a clue on where have gone when China is more attractive.

I love how everybody thinks they are recording everything and are all-seeing yet they cannot use this awesome power to solve everything immediately.

As far as this guy being a "hero", get a fucking clue. We live in a world where people want to kill us for nothing more than being who we are. You can claim that it's because we trample them under but in reality everything you have, everything this country was built on, everything you see, is because of what we have done. If you have a problem with your cheap oil, your nice computer, your 1st world way of life, then go live in the woods grizzly adams style.

This is reality, people want to kill us for any number of reasons.
I want to win the lotto; it will never happen. There has been one single attack on the US in our lifetimes that has taken any substantial number of lives when represented as a portion of the country and even that is arguable (1 out of every 100,000 citizens on 911), and even then it came nowhere near top 10 causes of death for that year. Outside of 2001, terrorism kills fewer people in the US than people who masturbate themselves to death (and as I write that I'm inclined to believe it's not actually hyperbole and is factual).

If you live in NYC your perspective on terrorism is likely to be more emotional than most people's, as well as your sense of vulnerability. Manhattan is an island with millions and no egress capable of moving a lot of people, so it will always be a large target for terrorists.

This country is way too hard in the pants over terrorism in general.

They hate us for many reasons but foremost is that they want to be where we are, number one.

lmao is this 2002? Is LK a neocon? They want to kill us because of our "freeeedoms"! Freedoms include having our phone, email, internet searches collected analyzed, and pushed through an algorithm to determine if we are eligible to be hit with a drone strike without trial.

This is the problem with people like you, you can't even be made to see that the people who created this country couldn't even conceive of global trade let alone a country the size of the US with an economy the size of what we have.

Only simple minds think that they created a system by which nothing can ever be changed. It's why we have Congress.

They were able to conceive a lot more than you give them credit for since they came from something called the british empire and were looking to create a greater empire.

The history the schools do not/will not teach about America.

Well NSA has already filed a criminal report and they said FBI and other agencies are already discussing criminal charges and apprehension of this guy. I was watching the news this morning when they were talking about it. They want to do to this guy what they are currently doing to Bradley Manning. The thing that bothers me about this is that none of this data has ever been used to go after the big bankers and those who have done very criminal things against citizens, and the powerful and rich are somewhat exempt from all this. It is only the little guys, the small US citizens who they are garnering all this info from.

Please. do so. I could use an understanding of 5th civics.... as you seem to be grounded in them..

Not a problem, PM me your address and I will get it in the mail tomorrow. After you read up and get a bit more informed on the topic I would be happy to continue the debate.

Why is this guy being celebrated while Bradley Manning was vilified?
PFC Manning was not selective, at all, with what he leaked. The vast majority (nearly all) of the sensitive and classified information he released had absolutely nothing to do with criminal or unconstitutional activity.

I have to agree with you on this. You DO NOT reveal classified information, whether you agree with it or not...especially if you've been a CIA employee.

I'll actually be surprised if the guy makes it to trial...but rather, just disappears, never to be seen again.

wtf? is the American government the Stasi or KGB now? its a sad sad sad thing when people thing a whistle blower is going to get assassinated by his own governments wrong doings.

after the past week of hearing how detailed the NSA dragnet is i say he is a HERO. I am no criminal and the government has no business siloing my personal data for future reference.

Bradley Manning was one thing. IMHO, this is completely different. It's rife for abuse.

A year from now you may decide to commit a terrorist attack, the phone data today could be vital to that investigation. The government doesn't know who is or isn't a potential terrorist. All must be suspect.

I agree with this. His moving to Hong Kong at least shows that he understands the gravity of the situation.

Maybe he should have finished High School.....

considering he was working for the CIA then the NSA as a contractor living in Hawaii for his post and making 200K. I would say having a GED worked out well for him.

I'm pretty sure Verizon is quite aware of who you are calling everyday, heck they want to know so we can add all of our friends and family to our calling circles.

Verizon does not have guns or threat of prison.

And you are willing to allow us to be open to attack from any foreign power, whether it is a lone terrorist or a nation-state?

Thats a very broad question.

Would I do everything within reason and within the Constitution to prevent the nation from being attacked, of course. The key words there are within reason and within the Constitution.

Now I have a question for you, what other rights and civil liberties would you give up if we could reduce our chances of being killed by an act of terrorism a further 50%? How about a clean double?
