IIRC there were articles years ago stating that suspected terror cells were using online services like WOW and Second Life to congregate and discuss plans precisely because they were unmonitored communications.

I remember this too. I mean shit, the NSA is gonna spy anyway, might as well spy somewhere that might actually catch a terrorist.

I think everybody with a brain would conduct terrorist activities in person. Everybody knows all email/phone, etc is monitored. So should the NSA have a mic installed to every home, car, park, or any where someone can talk together?

The more they do this, the more they generate dissidence. Much like drone strikes don't eliminate terrorism in other countries, it only breeds it.

The main objective of all this spying is to monitor and control the mass population. Only the very naive would believe that this is about anti-terrorism. The commie boogeyman is dead. Meet the new boogeyman!

Obviously all gamers are terrorists. They probably found a few nutjobs communicating in code in a game session. So now everyone is guilty.

Anyone else want to start talking about buying rockets and C4 for an attack on the white house? I feel like wasting some government resources.

You're assuming terrorists have brains. A lot of them hail from technologically medieval areas and have a hard enough time understanding what the NSA is currently doing, let alone how to combat it. Aside from a few experts it's all push-button to them.

Honestly it's fairly simple if somewhat tedious to be truly anonymous on the internet in the US.

1. Buy a bunch of Raspberry Pi/Beaglebone Blacks with wifi extensions and appropriate portable display.
2. Use only public wifi hotspots, preferably in a random pattern and from a parking lot.
3. Use tor and the links web browser for literally everything.
4. Periodically "burn" the current board and start using a new one out of storage to avoid MAC address tracking.
5. All email content encrypted with PGP or equivalent.
6. Periodically switch emails in synchronization with contacts.

Essentially summed up as "keep your internet identity as hidden and fluid as possible". It would be tedious, but if I had enough motivation to plot a terrorist attack, I'd hope I'd have enough motivation to be smart about it.

Since Al Qaida is being sponsored by the CIA and US allies overseas the morons over at the NSA should monitor the idiots in Langley.

I was on the Draenor server last night, there was a guy totally raging about this on Trade chat. I warned him that the NSA might be watching and label him a terrorist.

Honestly, I've kept a piece of black electrical tape over the lens of my laptops ever since I got my first macbook pro from the school. I trust those in this school, but it was around that time that the story hit about another school that was spying on students using the camera.

Oh, and they're spying on WoW because someone wrote that people were using WoW to discuss terrorist activities? I heard the other day that people were communicating terrorist activities in messages embedded in litecoin and bitcoin mining.

Probably like me they don't understand 3/4 of this thread. Therefore, terrorism.

So them collecting record of your phone calls was ok, collecting emails, cellphone calls, them putting spyware on all kinds of computers all over the world was ok, but your World Of Warcraft account is where you draw the line?

I suppose this makes some sense, you get a game chat channel and in game currency to transfer to people (that have a real value, because some people pay real money for it...) Sounds like a good way to avoid suspicion..

Quoted to hopefully raise the AMD stock I bought as the government gets into crypto currency mining!

Lol, I wonder if anyone's ever used WoW to launder money.
