NT Logged Out??

Had a question about NT workstations logged out. I've installed the latest client as a service and verified that it cracks while NT is in a logged out state (as well as when it is logged on).
My question is, do the clients update in this state as well? I'm on a LAN, always connected.

If by update you mean fetch and flush, yes they do.

Ummm, that is a rather loaded question.

The client will keep cracking, that is for certain, but you will loose network permissions when you are logged out. For instance I have one NT LAN that uses remote buffers on an NT server. If the user is NOT logged in, it will not fetch/flush. Also, depending on your internet firewall you may loose internet connectivity if you are not logged on. If you run a personal proxy on the LAN by IP address, you should be fine.
Solution? Buffer enough blocks to span the logged off time.

Most of Two's lab systems are rarely logged on, and they've been updating just fine. Not sure how his Lab Rat set them up, but they do work.

Thanks for all the input. Mine are updating although I can only assume they all are. A couple of them are Win98 PCs, Would it be any different for them?

I found that problem on one of my LANs the hard way with shared buffers. That was a pure NT permissions thing, NT was doing what it was supposed to do.
It just shows how each situation can be different.
BTW, do those machines have FT Internet access and connect directly to Dnet's keyservers??

OK, to satisfy my curiosity, I checked this out on my LAN.
I'm running M$ Proxy 2 on an NT Server. I NORMALLY flush my LAN clients to a PProxy which runs on the NT server.

I changed a Win 95/458 client to flush directly to jator.2y.net

Not logged on to network- <could not resolve hostname jator.2y.net> could not flush.
Logged on to network <connected to jator.2y.net:2064...> flushed fine.

I knew there was a reason that I installed the clients as a service AND installed my own Pproxy.

How do I make the client crack under win2k at all times? That is, logged on, logged out, and different users.

I'm going to look into the pproxy too. There are lots of reasons to do that, the one you mentioned Vis is a good one. T-1's go down too (for another).

Marty, Two of the units I have on my LAN are 2000 workstations. Just install the client as a service and it will work logged off and under any user. You have to install it with admin rights to the local workstation. dnetc -install from a DOS prompt will do it. Make sure you close your client before running the command. Remove any shortcuts in your startup too.

So I will only have to run DNet with the -install tag once and it will run automatically whenever the computer is on? Great, that solves one headache!

It's easy to verify too, just open your task manager and see if the dnet client is running. You can also go into the services and see if it has been started. I didn't have to reboot, but I did log off and back on about an hour later to see if it had been running while logged off.

Don't forget to go into the Control Panel/Services. When you double-click on the DNETC entry line, it gives you the option of who to be logged in as when it is running as a service. If that remote buffers setup is a problem, it is because the default user when you are logged off doesn't have authorized access. Add your Userid and Password into the service and all will be well !!!!

yeah wot jonb said, it does work, i used to crack RC5 (many moons ago, and at a previous company) and there i used MS Proxy 2, all was fine once i got the service to log on as administrator, although any user with the right priviliges would work fine to.
