NT Protocol Configuration

I have a SBS running a network of win98/me clients. The problem that I am having is that the proxy server is running very slow, so I only have the occasional users on the proxy and the dedicated users on their own ip, through my t1 line (router is plugged into the switch). THese clients access through ipx because that is the only way I can get the server to recognize them. Unforunately this produces a dual layer network and several security holes...any suggestions?

Ah, router going to switch not a good idea. Seeming you did not mention a FIREWALL here I'll assume you have your behinder is sitting in internet land with a big sign saying "hello, scan me baby". Sorry, abit of network humor but on a more serious note, you need to get that network of yours configured right! First, what king of router do you have. If it is a CISCO 2500 or better, you may be able to run NAT at least which will help. Second that server of yours (is this NT or NetWare??- I didn't know NT had a SBS out there) that is running proxy should be connected between the router and your switch. You didn't mention anything about an e-mail server or web server so you should be ok in doing this. Next you need to find out why your proxy is running slow. By the way IPX is the least of your worries about security issues, TCP/IP is a much bigger problem there. Give me somemore info and I'll try and help.

i highly recommend you ask your question in the newsgroup i mentioned in my earier post. Those guys know SBS4.5 inside and out. Also many of them are testers for the SBS-2000 version. So you may get info on the nice features of the new version.
