NTFS size question.

I am running XP Pro and I just installed a 120gb drive and the system is telling me that it is only a 111gb drive. Any ideas? Is NTFS taking up 9 gigs? I find that hard to believe.

It's most likely just due to the difference in the way the HD manufacturers and the OS view the size of the drive. Read this.

It might have had a chance if they didn't pick a word that sounded so gay.

Although most of the abreviations in Linux have been converted from 'MB' to 'MiB' where appropriate.

Agreed...sounds like a baby name lol!...people who see XP as having a fisher price interface may see it as appropriate

your computer reads a gig as 1000 meg, windows sees a gig as 1024 meg, or i heard something like that

close. They say 1000 meg is a gig to for a selling point, but your computer reads it as 1024 meg.

For myself I am not overly concerned how my XP Pro opening screen looks as long as my programs all run correctly which they do. As soon as XP Pro boots up I run programs. Never sit and stair at the opening screen as apparrently some seem to indicate they do.

As for the little animated dog in the Search menu? Who cares as long as Search works like it is suppose to. I focus on the search and its results. Hardly notice the little dog. Another plus is the young ladies like to sit next to me and watch the little dog animate. A neat start to become friendly with them.
