Speaking of the Gigabyte GA-8IGX... I'm having issues with the ACPI it seems. Once my computer goes to sleep, it's essentially dead, it can't wake up from sleep mode. I've done a clean install Windows XP 3 times already and just about anything else I could try in between each install without any success. I have very "standard" hardware... SB Audigy, Geforce4 Ti4200, etc. with the latest drivers so I don't know what else to try. Anyone else have similar problems or suggestions? ACPI can't be completely disabled in the bios either so I don't have that option...

At this point I just want to see it. Finish one thing before starting on something else. Here, I can write it:

They're all stable, all perform about the same, and whichever one has the most onboard crap wins.

Which sleep mode? S1, S3, S4?

The board only has options for S1 and S3 and I've tried both and neither works. Same thing either way, once the computer goes to sleep, it dies. I've turned off all the power management options in Windows XP.

My best guess is that the +5vsb lead on your power supply is either weak or malfunctioning. A short draining off the standby power is also a possibility, or it could just be a buggy BIOS. Gigabyte's recent efforts have certainly been a bit rough around the edges.

Comment on whether any of these motherboards would have a problem accepting the longer video cards that are now available.

Thx

I just checked and according to the bios, it's getting about +5.1v... it's a new Enermax 350W ps too. I've even tried some of the older bios... I haven't heard of other people with this same problem tho so I guess I'm all out of ideas.

If I were you, I would post in the 'Motherboard' ot 'Technical support' channel and not in this thread. First because it's not 'i845G roundup' related anymore, and I am sure it will catch the attention of more people.

Just an advice, sorry it doesn't help you fix your problem ...

Well, hopefully you have the Gigabyte GA-8IGX, the one many people are talking about on here, it is the one many are considering since the GA-8IGXP isn't available to us.
Also, I noticed that some of these boards have active cooling fans on the chipset and some only have passive cooling. In fact, the GA-8IEXP has a fan while the GA-8IGX doesn't. Does it make a real difference to stability and overclocking? One would assume so but I wonder why they used it on one board but not the other.
Also, I'd suggest seeing if you can reproduce the problem PotatoBBQ is having! It should only take a second.

I have a similar problem. I'm running win2k, and if I select "Restart" from the shutdown menu, the system dies after win2k is finished shutting down and does not restart. I have to manually powerdown then powerup. strange.

You now have 13 HOURS & 54 MINUTES left in August to release your review! Please include beta bios 1004.14 for the ASUS p4b533-v that gets the 3:4 ratio above 132Mhz fsb. EVERYONE wants to know about it!...Mark

Going by Pacific time, you now have 8 hours, 57 minutes left, Evan.

Seriously, though. Do you have an updated eta?

Really now. What did the 845E "Roundup" tell you that you couldn't have figured out by downloading the manual?

Argh, I'll try to get this review out before Anand and I go out to IDF this Friday, however I'm guessing it'll be more like next week. I'm doing a bunch of individual reviews right now (two of which will be released this week) in addition to a couple other special first-look motherboard reviews. Classes just started too, so I've been swamped. Yeah, it's no excuse, but still.

Even worse, actually, is the fact that 845GE and 845PE boards (official DDR333 support) will be out in a matter of weeks, so my 845G roundup is going to look pretty outdated, even if it was released last week. I'll be doing individual 845GE and 845PE reviews though, so that should make some happy.

Well jaeger66, if you have any suggestions as to how I could include new and refreshing information in a motherboard roundup, I'm all ears.

Aaarg ... I got ALL the hardware for my new box except mobo and cpu. I can't afford waiting for the roundup anymore, I just bought an Abit BG7 & a P4 2.4B.

I just hope the review will not end-up saying that the BG7 is a no-go mobo ! :frown:

I've been complaining about these roundups long before you did them so don't take it personally. Basically I like reviews like the Abit one you just did...one board in depth. Dig up Anand's Abit KT7A review for the blueprint that I'd rather see. Before, the highest profile boards got their own reviews and then later were put into a roundup with the more marginal ones.

Psy7th, the ABIT BG7 is a great mobo. While I won't reveal too much about it as to reveal all my BG7 coverage (for the roundup), in a nutshell, it's a great overclocker with great features, and there weren't any issues during testing. Go for it.

I see your point, and I agree. Trust me, you'll be seeing lots of individual motherboard reviews.

I already got a bg7. wonderful, simple board. i doubt that there is much difference among all the i845g contenders in terms of performance. tomshardware did a review of some boards. i didnt see much difference in the tested boards.
if evan is able to test overclocking and other individual board details, I will be surprised. i've been waiting for the review too, but seriously, riding evan to produce the review just isn't cool.

I don't really care too much about the onboard features because I doubt I will use most of them. The ASUS P4B533-V has that classic ASUS name and some nice unique features, it seems to be slightly faster than the rest, but I could justify spending $50 more on an ASUS board compared to the others. I also thought about the BG7, but ended up with the EPoX 4G4A+ because of all the positive things said about it here and other places around the net.

Hey !!!

I am so happy ... I just received my BG7 ... I thought I could do my little BG7 review here ...

First, the box is painted with nice shades of red and gold, quite pretty but not all have my tastes. The box opens easily and then, one immediately notices the top-notch bubble wrap around the mobo. Nice material, great texture I must say, but it's pink ! After tossing the board out of the box, I discovered that there was (beside the usual stuff) an inflatable plastic soccer ball. And then it all came clear "yay, that IS the best i845G mobo on earth".

Well I know I haven't even seated the CPU in its socket yet, but hey, "Inflatable Plastic Soccer Ball" ... do you need to know more ? Well, yeah, I guess. Let's wait a few more days for the i845G roundup ...

Can you review the best BIOS settings for the EPOX 4G4A+ with a P4????????

With the generally used PC2700 DDR ofcourse.

Perhaps some overclocking BIOS settings

I am in the market for an Intel DDR board right now. My question would be does it make sense to wait for the 845GE or 845PE? Do they add anything else besides "official" support for DDR 333? If that's the only thing then I'll buy now, but if there is anything else added, it may be better to wait, what do you think?
I know it may be too late to bring this up in the roundup conclusion or something, but maybe someone on here can comment.
