Which is why you send all those press trucks and corps over...

Every major news item in the world will attract more American reporters than from any other country, other than from the nation where the event itself occurs. We have, for better or worse, the largest and most robust news media in the world (not that quantity necessarily equates to quality).

I guess I don't care a great deal who follows news about the royals as long as I don't have to pay for them. That would irritate me greatly.

Oh man, this is terrible.

Those two DJ's are so fucking fucked. Obviously not legally, but they're fired for sure. The station will have to dump em for the PR.

I feel really bad for them. It was just a joke. They do it every week. In fact, this was the least serious call they've ever done. They pretended to be Her Majesty! With a terrible fucking accent!

How could they have ever thought that it was actually going to work?

From my POV its a horrible thing they did not because it was anything to do with the royals but because they are phoning up a hospital.

Its difficult managing requests for information about patients, we don't want to shut all relatives out of the loop but we also have to respect the patients privacy. To keep it all civilised requires a level of decency on all sides. These guys were just acting like scumbags.

I think you're making the same mistake as Dari.

Because you're not interested doesn't mean others around you aren't.

Oh shut the fuck already man.

You're pathetic inferiority complex is getting annoying.

It's not the Brits fault that India is a shithole, ok? They tried to civilize the place but it didn't take. So get over it already.

I must've struck a nerve. WTF did India come from? I'm Texan and the British are a weak people.

I dunno. It seems to me that yes, they crossed an ethical line by seeking patient information through false pretenses, then broadcasting it, but there was nothing particularly personal or embarrassing about the information that was actually broadcast (as opposed to, say, the possibility that the nurse would have disclosed that Kate had fertility problems due to a previous abortion, or something similarly personal). I don't know about the UK but the US has strict patient privacy laws that would probably have prevented this from occurring even if the caller had pretended to be, say, President Obama. Here, the nurse who disclosed the information would have been breaking the law - I don't know if that's true in the UK.

The release of patient information feels like small potatoes to me, relative to the nurse's death. Personally I don't think the death was in any way foreseeable or the broadcasters' fault, but if I were in their shoes I would be feeling terrible regardless.

I don't see how you have any insight into this whatsoever, as you are not an American and don't live here. I don't doubt that many Brits don't care about the royals, but that doesn't mean anybody/everybody else does. To the extent Americans care at all I think it's mostly because we have such an unhealthy obsession with celebrity here (whether it's Kim Kardashian, Lady Gaga, or Kate Middleton), but in any case I don't know anyone who has any particular interest in the royals.

I sort of agree, if it was me that had answered the phone and given out that info I'd have shrugged and gone "whoops" and not thought of it again.

But it wasn't me. It was some poor sap that obviously felt different about it.

Just going by the fact that the American press corps have a truly ridiculous showing at royal events. They must be broadcasting to someone.

I'm not saying that every American cares, only that quite a lot of you do. I'm not sure why you find this so uncomfortable though, its just another reality TV show. Think of it as the Jersey Shore with better accents.

Figure it out... Here's a clue. While your direct lineage was being sent to the prison colony known as Australia, my ancestors were killing your other ancestors who put on the red coat...

Err, you do understand that America was used as a penal colony until the revolution, right?

Do you see a Union Jack on our flag? Is the Queen of England our head of state? We kicked the British out of our country while the Aussies still worship them. No wonder the British see Australians the same way New Englanders see rednecks. As for the relationship between England and the United States? Well, every man needs a good dog...

Oh, I get it now, you're retarded.

Your posts make a lot more sense when one understands that.

OK...

I feel that you're going off on one of your random tangents again, you really should do something about that.

I guess you might think that, but it's because you don't know any better. I doubt one American in ten could name any European monarch outside of England (not that ignorance is a point of pride). I'd say most Americans find all monarchies kind of strange, but that doesn't correlate with caring about them. Actually this particular case demonstrates that Australians apparently care a fair bit about at least the British royals.

True, but then again a LOT (numbers vary between 40-70%) of all Americans still believe that Saddam was involved in 9/11 and i doubt you would say that there is one nation on earth as interested in 9/11 as the US.

I'm going by press alone but i'm going to be honest and tell you that i have no idea about the Aussies.
