Monitored personal space. Rather than having somebody come check on me, walking in and out at will as though it were semi-public, I would want enough technology monitoring that my space is MY space unless something goes wrong. Loss of privacy would be one of the hardest things about going into a nursing home.
Mobility. I may not be able to stand, walk or use my hands effectively but I want to be able to go where I choose, under my own power. Powered wheelchairs operated by voice or eye command or somesuch.
Accessibility. To the building and to the *ahem* facilities. I want to independently be able to come and go as much as I want (no stairs, no check in/out procedures) as long as I am of sound mind, and I want the ability to take care of my personal needs without human assistance for as long as possible.
Personal internet access with accessible terminals. Hands may be too bad to use a keyboard and mouse but I don't want that cutting me off from the worlds of information and society out there on the net.
Accessible Kitchen and Shopping. May be shared but I still want the ability to prepare my own meals for as long as possible.
I have plenty more, I'm sure, if I gave it thought. I've had rheumatoid arthritis since I was 17 so the idea of being disabled and needing care is something I've considered much more than most people my age. Losing privacy, independence and access to share information online is a scary thought.
